$100 off Canon DSLRs at JB Hi-Fi with Trade-In of Crummy Old Camera. 600D Body $396

1580

JB are knocking off $100 from Canon DSLR cameras if you hand in your crappy old camera. I just bought a lovely 600D with 18-55mm lens kit for $546. All I did was take in a rubbish 10 year old 5MP camera that I had in a shoe box of string and paper clips. I almost felt embarrassed handing it over to the sales assistant. However, the promotion says, "any camera working or not."

Since you have to take your old camera in, it is obviously STORE PICKUP ONLY.

Hahahaha, I'm so pleased with myself right now. I'm taking the rest of the day off to play with my new camera and run around the neighbourhood.

And to the naysayers and killjoys, this is Aussie stock with an Aussie warranty. Not grey import cameras.

God Bless.

Are JB prices any good after the $100 off?

    • +2

Don't know about the other Canon cameras but the Body Only for $396 is a total bargain. The single lens kit that I bought today also seems to be the cheapest I could find at the moment (for Aussie stock) once you take off the $100.

      • Damn it, why did I have to have a 550D already? Why? why?

        • +1

Same reason i do. Got it before they even released the 600D?
Besides, they are essentially the same cameras.. do you really want a flip out screen? Unless your doing video work i guess.

        • yeah no point getting the 600D if you don't need a flipout screen. 650D has other features which stand out but is a lot more expensive

        • +9

No Cheese i dont care for the damn flip out screen. i dont care about anything. But the deal. I have to have it. Its a deal. A good one. my ozbargainitis rash is back. :p

        • +2

I find the flip out screen to be very handy for macro shots (as well as other awkward shots). Not worth upgrading from a 550D for, but it does have uses other than video.

        • +1

Better feature is the remote flash controller. And flip out screen is a real bonus actually. Not that I have one? ( spoilt myself with the 5dmkiii)

        • Ozbargainitis spreads from around the wallet area :-(

      • Yeah, it's not cheap once you get up to the 60D, but it's cheap for a 600D.

      • +1

wireless trigger flash on the 600d is also one advantage over the 550d

  • Do they offer the same for Nikon, Olympus and Fujifilm?

    • offer is for Canon only

  • This is a very good price for 600D 18-55mm kit… grey import is going around 500 + shipping

    • Agreed. Can't get through the manual quick enough. Never owned a super awesome camera before.

      • +3

wait until you get a SUPER DUPER AWESOME camera… which costs 3k on a body and 3k on a lens lol

        • +10

For me, that would be roughly around the same time as I win the lottery…

        • +1

          I started it but I totally agree…

      • That's what I thought.. It's been a year since I bought one and I'm already looking forward to the day that I can afford the 7D

  • what do they do with these traded in cameras anyway?

    • +3

My guess is that they dispose the traded in cameras. If they (JB/Canon) merely discount the price, that price gets established as the "the price" and buyers become reluctant to pay the normal price after that.

      • They would just send them to be recycled. They would get a small amount of green credits, but not much. Basically the same thing that happens to most corporate computers once they're end of life.

    • +1

They sell them to Cash Converters…

  • welcome to the world of DSLRs, good post!

    • Thanks Chongy!

  • Does it have to be a DSLR that you trade in?

    • No, any old bit of junk will do as I understand.

      • +1

I hope they dont check carefully. Let me give a try with my kid's toy camera :)

        • +1

You could buy a camera from them for less than $79, then trade that in (if you couldn't find anything else).

        • It's "any" camera, working or not, old as the hills or one you just got from go-lo. I bet even an old webcam would qualify.

        • +5

Just purchased a 600D today - I tried to trade in my old Nokia N95 as I didn't have an old digital camera lying around but they guy said no. I jokingly asked if I could trade in a disposable camera and he said that they didn't have any rules against that and it should be okay.

Headed over to K-Mart and picked up a disposable for $8, went back to JB's and traded it in with no difficulties :)

  • +2

+1 for first post assertiveness! Good deal too, cheers! :)

    • Thanks!

  • Wow - tempting….. The weirdo in my wants to trade an EOS 650 (80's, non-d, film, paid $10 for it) for a 650D

    • +13

THATS A CLASSIC MAN DONT TRADE IT IN!

  • +12

Will they accept a disposable camera as a trade in?

    • Interesting question. Their site does say, "Bring in ANY camera, working or not."

      • Any camera, even an old webcam or disposable camera would qualify.

    • I can confirm they will accept a disposable camera. Traded in an $8 one today for $100 off a 600D.

    • +18

Love the way you can read the description.

Awesome post. I just wish I hadn't paid $580 for this as a gray import about a month ago :(

  • very good, interesting sony 5n dual was $850 at JB. show them price at camera warehouse for $730 and they match it.

    • Wow… they've dropped heaps
I guess Nex-6 and 5R are just around the corner…

    • new sony 5n with 18-55 and 55-210 zooms are $699 delivered aus stock from greys, of course.

      • +1

I see those vouchers have lured you into browsing on greys more….mission complete! (for them) :-)

  • Great deal!

  • +18

Will they accept a cardboard box pinhole camera?

    • Only if its working

      • +4

        Says working or not!

  • now to find a camera…

  • +14

Will they accept my shoe camera? I don't catch public transport anymore. Need something better so I can zoom really far.

    • +1

You need one of those lenses with a hole cut out the side and a 45degree angle mirror so you can photograph without looking in that direction!

    • +1

And I bet it's also a DSLR in your shoe :)

  • +4

Can I trade in a disposable film camera with undeveloped naked selfies still on it?

    • +2

      That's possibly worth more than $100… :p

    • you'd get more than $100 from auctioning it on the interweb…

    • +5

      only if you're a young female….

  • Sorry, my post might bit out of topic.
Anyone can recommend which one is better between IXUS125HS, 240HSS and 500HSS?
    Cheers guys.

    • I can make a good recommendation on a DSLR depending on your need
but compact cameras… they're pretty much the same thing

just go for the right price with the right functions for you

      • And the names. The names… How are we supposed to tell the difference between the things?
"What do you think of the 500CSX45?"
        "The what?!"

    • Pretty much use the same sensor, or same sensor size. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference as far as IQ is concerned.

If I was buying a compact, I would buy the Canon S100 from Kogan (which I did recently - to supplement my Micro 4/3). The S100 has a bigger sensor, fast lens and is great bang for buck. The price has fallen because the S110 has been released. The S110 only brings Wifi and touch screen - same sensor, same lens and more expensive.

And if you are feeling rich I would look at the Sony RX100.

      • i bought the s100 from kogan too. its a great camera, but even with all the manual settings it wont take good depth of field shots cos of its small sensor in comparison to dslrs

  • Living up to your username with that 1st post, Wonderman. Nice work.

    • Thanks Bindi!

  • Nice bargain. Anyway I got my 600D for $579 shipped from Kogan- not so bad though

  • So if I hand in 5 cameras, will I get $500 off :P

Jokes aside, is this the same lens kit as what you get with a 1100D? I'm looking at upgrading my body.

    • It may be different, double check with the vendor/JB?
1100D may get the cheaper lens Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III Lens
while the 550D get the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens

    • +20

      Upgrading your body?

      Your wife will be pleased.

  • Would a camera phone be okay?

    • +3

Yes, JB World Square accepted my Nokia 7650 :)

      • 7650, first Symbian phone with camera. Classis

  • If you can't trade in this offer is still valid, not as good but still there as an option http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81884

  • +1

Hope there is still stock of the 600D on the 31st of October. Leaving overseas on 30th of November, so within the 30 days for TRS.

  • so the 600d comes with lens? how much in total will that be?

    • check JB website and if you still don't get it then ask a question?
I'm pretty sure you can read and do simple maths

      • i'm at work and can't go on the jb site purely for the reason that someone walking past will know i'm not looking at a work related screen.

yes, i can look later but i want to know NOW.

        • Listed price for 600D w/18-55IS is $646

          (It's actually in the description)

        • +9

LOL. Ozbargain is a work related website :) Yays for your workplace.

        • i like how you were still nice to provide me with an answer though.

          mucho gracias.

and apologies on my inability to read.

    • +9

      oh really, a deal?

  • -4

Can I use old film camera for trade in?

    • Reading fail yet again.

  • Pretty good deal I would say. I can grab 1100d for $296 after trade in. What is the quality like?

  • Just picked one up. Traded in my 3.2mp digital. No shoe boxes or potatoes etc. Comes with one lens. No single lens kit at blacktown. About 7 left at parra. The 1100d is OK but the 600d is much better quality and easier to use

    • Comes with one lens. No single lens kit

What do you mean by that?

      • you can get the body, single lens kit, twin lens kit but there is no single lens kit left at blacktown. you quoted me but left out 'blacktown'

  • Nice deal :)
But it's not for me since I'm looking for the Canon 5D Mk II.
Buying from online is still cheaper than going in-stores to buy a camera :P

  • Can I make a camera shape out of bread? Then it will be crumby AND crummy…

    • +5

is that a bread or a camera? a cake baked in a shape of a camera is still a cake. why dont you make a rolex watch out of bread and take it to cash converters and see how much you can get for it

      • +2

At Cash Converters you'd get roughly the same amount for a Rolex made out of bread as you would for a Rolex made out of gold anyway…take home message: Cash Converters are thieving bastards!

Camera trade in at JB = $100, sense of humour = priceless! ;)
