$100 off Canon DSLRs at JB Hi-Fi with Trade-In of Crummy Old Camera. 600D Body $396

1580

JB are knocking off $100 from Canon DSLR cameras if you hand in your crappy old camera. I just bought a lovely 600D with 18-55mm lens kit for $546. All I did was take in a rubbish 10 year old 5MP camera that I had in a shoe box of string and paper clips. I almost felt embarrassed handing it over to the sales assistant. However, the promotion says, "any camera working or not."

Since you have to take your old camera in, it is obviously STORE PICKUP ONLY.

Hahahaha, I'm so pleased with myself right now. I'm taking the rest of the day off to play with my new camera and run around the neighbourhood.

And to the naysayers and killjoys, this is Aussie stock with an Aussie warranty. Not grey import cameras.

God Bless.

    • Umm, everyone else has been getting it for 396…

With the $100 trade in offer, ofcourse I got it for $365. :)

        • Wouldn't have thought they'd stack discounts.

        • reciept?

        • How do you upload a pic on an iphone? My first to post here so I don't really know the ropes yet. :) Sales people at JB blacktown are friendly, they will try to help as much as they could. Whenever you come to them, just make sure to do your research first and know the price range of the particular product your after, then you can haggle like a true ozbargainer. :)

        • all except for one guy working in the computer section

    • Receipt please! I'm heading out to order one today and this would be great! Just upload to imageshack or similar and post the link here

  • JB strathpine, qld didn't have and 600d bodies on their own, only the sets. The girl there was very helpful (Zoe) and checked the stores close by but apparently only brissy central had the bodies on their own (1 in the box and a display)

  • Anyone know where to get a cheap lens if I got the body only? I'm not sure if Ebay would be best or not, a lot appear to be direct from China so I don't know if that would cover warranty etc

    • Try hkbns.com. They offer a 3 year warranty on their sigma lenses. Used them 2 years ago, lens is still sharp as new. It's a hk based company so, grey import. There seems to be no cheap lens here in Australia which is really sad I think. Sometimes lenses cost as much as 50% more than the imports. If you're worried about warranty, you can buy a Mack warranty. I think you can use this wherever because it is internationally recognised. That's what most grey importers offer for extended warranty. Not sure about their service though.

  • Just got it for $365 - receipt:

Took a pretty painful amount of time but worth it, just need to get a lens!

    • Will try my luck price matching in jb scarb. Thanks

    • Nice! What did you price match?

      • +1

hey @alvis1997 just wanted to thankyou for your receipt. I just got JB to price match it and bought
        my very first DLSR!!!

        Thank you so much!

  • Hi all, My local JB only has the twin pack left. I talked them down to a final price ($100 off included) of $789. Not as good as the WA store ($678), but is this still a good deal?
They offered to order in the body only or single lens kit but advised me that it would probably not arrive in time to qualify for this deal.

    • $789-$678 = $111 difference…computer says NO!

      • Looks like the steps might be to print off and take in Kogan's $739 (+$40 delivery) Canon twin deal posted earlier to see if they will price match, or come down a little lower. But with only one JB HiFi here and the staff being pretty adamant that this was as low as they were willing to go … it might be a waste of time.

        • Try another JB store, some are better than others. The same goes for staff, it sounds like you encountered a tool, you could try talking to another staff member as well!

Failing that, yeah present a better quote & if you're not happy with the result, just walk…there are gonna be deals galore on 600D's in the very near future and these prices are gonna be the norm!

Personally, I'd be holding out for $678 or nothing on the TLK now that there's a precedent. However, my preference would be the body only & pick up a good general purpose lens later. If you got a good deal on that I see no reason why you can't purchase now to take advantage of the deal & simply wait for stock to come in; again, IMHO your salesperson is being a tool! ;)

        • Thanks for all the advice. Yep, looking through the details there's a strong precedence for a much a better deal. Thanks:)

Regarding purchasing now to take advantage of the deal - I was told that they would only be able to sell me what they have in stock (of course), and if I ordered it would have to arrive before the end of the deal (Oct 31) to get this offer. However dealing with a different staff member they might allow me to pay for the body only deal upfront to collect when stock arrives??? Worth a shot maybe.

Being in Tas there's not much choice - with only one JB store here. Very thankful for online shopping and the high Aussie dollar.

Also - interesting news that these will probably be coming down in price in the future anyway. Maybe I'll just take some deep breaths and let this one go.

        • Yeah, they're being dicks…sounds like a bad salesperson that's full of shit.

I buy stuff all the time that's not instore, I'm usually given the choice of paying a deposit, all upfront or on pickup; then I just pick it up when it arrives…strong precedents for that too, e.g. "Click'n Collect" at DSE, OW etc…hell, I think even JB Online offers it!

Nothing wrong with waiting either, now the 650D is out the prices of the 600D are gonna creep down consistently IMHO, things will only get better if you don't have a pressing need to buy now! ;)

Check on a discussion on the second page. Kogan is cheaper, NSW got the same deal as 678 and I got an offer 711 in QLD.Check the details.

Just a note, my local JB store took my payment there and then for an order in…

  • Price on the website has gone up to $548 but if you click Buy Online or Check Stock the price becomes $496. Weird.

    • My JB won't go down to 496 at all. I can't seem to find it online at that price any more. Pretty shitty that they bump the price up by $50

  • Confirmed working in Casuarina store, NT. I purchased the 600D body on Friday 19th Oct. Salesperson said even though they didn't have stock, I can still take advantage of the promotion as long as it's paid for before the 31st. She also thought the offer was only for SLRs, until I informed her that the website said said "any camera". Traded in some old 2MP camera my mum had lying around as I was told old camera phones would not be accepted because their primary function is not a camera. Salesperson's reaction: "Wow, you're really getting your money's worth with this…"

Gonna claim a tax deduction on it too as I'll be studying photography next semester :)

The Kogan 650D single lens kit seems well priced…..I wonder at my chances of getting price match AND the -$100 off. Slim :P

    Anyone tried such audacity?

  • Went JB today. All NSW stores are out . Centrepoint is the only store you can preorder still, ie pay first and collect later like mid November. Deal will end sunday. What was price from original post? Catalogue is $548 now, so with $100 trade in, I paid $448. is $448 still a good deal? what do you think?

    • Was able to pre order from jb Chatswood yesterday afternoon for $396

      • How to get $396 when the price online is now $548? Feel being ripped off to go all the way to city to order and pay more - what is the name of that Sales in JB in the city? will find it from the receipt.

        • I showed the guy when you hit checkout on their website it still says $496.

        • Checkout is $548 now. Any chance to get a copy of receipt.

        • The guy in Centrepoint is nice. All sorted $398 with trade in. Thanks.

        • The body price is good. I was prepared to pay the $448 if he didn't give it to me for $396.

  • Can anyone confirm that there is melbourne stock anywhere? I will be buying if I can get stock for the 600D body only. (First time SLR user)

  • Ok. So I just went into the city and got a Canon 600D for $460 - $100 (I traded in old N95 camera phone). They didn't have any body only left,
so he got a twin pack and removed the lens. Amazing deal!

Also apparently JB Elizabeth has stock of body only!

  • How about the Sydney World Square store, anyone been there?

Hope you guys realise what a slippery slope it is once you've bought an SLR lol.

    First you'll probably get a multi-purpose zoom lens…

Then you'll realise its limitations or see fantastic photos online taken with an L series and want to upgrade the lens…

Or you might go down the route of prime lens'…

Then you might decide you want to take indoor photos and need a flash, realise the built-in flash is too direct, and opt for a bounce flash.

Or you might get into night time photography or long exposure shots and need a tripod…

Then you might start playing around with filters…

And then at the end of it, you'll get sick of lugging it around and it'll sit there collecting dust. Be warned lol. This 600D body will probably be your cheapest purchase out of the lot!

    • Wise words Atlas!

  • Hey guys just want to add. I just saw a 650D on georges camera selling for just $699. If you'll have it price matched at jb with your $100 trade in, it'll just be $599!! That's a mega bargain for an awesome camera. A lot better than the 600D. $100 more for digic 5 processor, continuous auto focus in movie mode, stm support, and the list goes on. Get it while you can! :)

    • As written by OP, 600D is $496 - $100 = $396.
      Your 650D is $599. It's $200 difference, not $100

  • Do I really need IS lens as a noob?

  • Just picked up my 600D there and got a 50mm f1.8 lens for $115.

  • No price matching using receipt in jb claremont and scarb

  • Thanks lzefyre for your post and OzBargain. Picked up a 650d body only from JB after price matching Georges Camera $699 price plus trade-in of old camera. Paid $575. Cheaper then grey import.

  • Does anyone know if JB will price match this?
    http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/canon-eos-600d-twin-is-lens-kit/
It would come down to $650 with the twin lense kit which looks pretty damn good imo

    • I don't know where you live but you have to be quick. It's end tomorrow.

None of the shops in brisbane does the price match with an online shop.
Some of them don't do price match + trade in.
It's actually up to who you're dealing with + manager on that day.

I managed to get 600d+single lens kit for $512 after walk in and out couple shops + different days.
I did ask them to do price match with camerapro, shop in the city. Its online price for body only is $460 and with a single lens kit is $587. (twin lens kit is still too expensive in my opinion)

They are not any body only anywhere so I couldn't get it and a guy told me that he could match with that price as it's too cheap but what he could do, he offered me $612 so it would be $512 with trade in.

I put my order in on Friday and I just got my camera today.

      • From everything I can see the deal is over? I can't find it on their site anymore?

        • Just visit any stores, they still put a big sign for this deal or just asking.
I think job removed the ad of this deal since last week.

  • This one seems great too. $399 without hassle to trade off. Found this from shopbot. Shipping is free with 1 year Aussie warranty. Cleaning kit or screen protector is also free. http://www.techrific.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=121…

Does anyone know this company's reputation?

    • $112 shipping!!

      • My bad! Thanks for find it out. $112 shipping is a rip off!
