Better off with a cb125. Cheaper and use less fuel

      • -1

Actually very expensive now for what they are. Nearly 4K for the few remaining new ones. The ABS rules really disrupted the cheaper end of the market.

Not sure whether the fuel difference makes it a good purchase. It has a drum brake, a carby and all sorts of other crap which is basically built to fail. I dont think it can justify itself as cheap transport any more.

        • the CB125 is cheap and reliable, and the newish F model has "combined" braking (front disc, rear drum), fuel injection, LED lighting etc

there's a reason all the delivery drivers and companies buy them.

  • Good find! Interesting the google maps integration, would love to see a demo of that

I'd be looking at a KTM or Japanese bike like Honda over RE.
Indian bikes don't have good build quality.

    • +4

KTM has a manufacturing plant in India :-)

      • -1

KTM motorcycles are primarily produced in their home facilities in Austria, with additional plants in India and Spain.
The company's engines, a key element of their bikes, are manufactured exclusively at their engine plant in Munderfing, Austria.

        This matters a lot.

        • Assembled in Austria with Taiwanese parts you mean? (TPI 2 strokes made by Kymco).

          • -1

@imnotgoingtopayrrp: You mean the cylinder and they're the same people who make them for BMW and Kawasaki which are 2 of the most reliable ever.

This isn't the flex you thought it was.

            • @imurgod: Just had to clear out the "it's got to be from Austria to be good" vibe you were throwing out there.

              • -1

@imnotgoingtopayrrp: But that is still true. Your comment doesn't change that… Despite you cherrypicking.

Think about it, the Rotax motor is one of the best 2T ever and it's made in Austria, for example.

The Taiwanese parts are actually very well made but it's the build quality that matters.

India is known for poor workmanship and this is backed by the poor build quality of the bikes and cars that come out of there.

For the quality you're getting, the price is too high when compared to Japanese and Austrian.

Lastly, it's not that I'm saying it has to be Austrian to be good because Italians make the best motors anyway.

                • -1

                    • @imurgod: Fiat and Alfa Romeo…
                      Pick up that mic

                      • +1

                        @cashless: Both made revolutionary engines.

Alfa alone has one the most successful, if not THE most successful racing pedigrees of any marque.

You're stuck in the 80s and have no knowledge of cars or engines.

                        Sit down.

                        • +1

@imurgod: I've had multiple Fiat and Alfa models. Great engines! I've owned some that had won "European Engine of the Year" awards. The electronics on the other hand…..

                          • @imnotgoingtopayrrp: Yes, I agree. Electronics were pretty awful in older models but they've fixed that these days.

                        • @imurgod: We all know it was GM that destroyed there reputation, oh wait… no… it was mounting a heater coil above the ECU.

                          • @imnotgoingtopayrrp: GM did do a lot of damage with their mediocre junk but yeah, that was ages ago now.

Check our the new machines like the Giulia. Flawless.

                            • -1

@imurgod: You mean the Giulia QV yeah? The one that FCA had to burn Ferrari in the joint venture? I'd say it's Alfa's payback for when Enzo just vanished and went to ground while Alfa had to convert their operations to support Mussolini's WW2 campaign.

                              • @imnotgoingtopayrrp: Cool story bro.

How is that relevant to the topic?

What is it exactly that you're upset about?

I drive an AMG, Mercedes helped Hitler. What of it? Still an amazing machine with one of the best engines on the planet.

                                • @imurgod: Haha, I thought you were the Wizzard of everything automotive? You are cherry-picking one of the best Alfa of their pretty crappy line-up. The one that they pretty much stole most of the Ferrari IP to create?

And congratulations on driving a high-yield investment.

                                  • @imnotgoingtopayrrp: I didn't cherrypick, you can't read. I said "Check out the new machines like the Giulia".

I also never claimed to be a wizard or everything automotive, you inferred that.

You buy cars based on racism and political agenda so there's nothing left for us to discuss as I am not the racist you clearly are.

I do love to see you dodge questions though, that's hilarious!

I still don't know why the facts are upsetting you to the point you've made it a personal attack.

                                    • @imurgod: Let's just clear things here yeah. You are the one dissing Indian vehicles here. What are you even doing commenting in here anyway? You have a AMG right? So you should just stick to the BMW Motorrad posts (but just make sure it's the models that come from the Bayern plant only).

                                      • @imnotgoingtopayrrp: Stuttgart actually.

I'm not dissing anything, I'm merely stating fact. You're getting upset for some odd reason.

Drive an Indian machine, I don't care at all. Hell, I hope it is reliable and enjoyable to drive!

There's no need for the tears, my friend. You have my express permission to buy any vehicle you like.

                                        Enjoy and Merry Christmas.

Considering how bad the roads in India are, these bikes run for a long time there. So, I believe the quality would be much better and generally, the export quality is higher than the ones intended for domestic sale.

Also, India exported ~ 3.6 million two wheelers n 700K cars last year.

      • This is not the case though.

Look at every Indian export vehicle. All have reliability and build quality issues.

LML, as another example, made 2T and 4T Vespa knock-offs.

The 2T suffered from all kinds of build quality issues and weak cranks which killed engines and the 4T had so many issues, they stopped production and you can't give one away for free.

There are a lot of problems with other RE models including rust, poor wiring, clutch issues, starter failures, etc.

Then there's the poor resale value….

The point I'm making is that, for the price point, you could do a lot better in every way but people are free to buy what they want.

    • Source: Trust me bro

      • You can easily google it if you have no idea.

Information is easy to find if you're not just trolling.

Bro is trying to compare Indian motors to Euro engineering LMFAO!!

  • Great for spare parts 🫁👀❤️

  • What's stopping them changing the price at release and then taking your deposit?

"Royal Enfield Australia reserves the right to vary colours, specifications and pricing at any time"

Edit: deposit is refundable so I guess you'd just not buy the bike if they up the price

  • -3

    Only one exhaust pipe.

    • +3

Is that a selling point for a single cylinder engine or do single cylinder bikes usually come with a spare exhaust pipe?

    • +1

Why would you want multiple exhaust pipes on a thumper?

  • -4

Ahh 450cc its like an ugly girl probably nice to ride but you wouldn't want your mates to see you on it.

    • +1

it's your life, only matters what you think, grow up :-D

      • Been riding bikes for 35yrs, actually an advanced instructor, n whilst this may have a market n a place much better value out there especially performance wise..ktm yzf ..but hey its all about your skill n comfort.

    • If you are riding 450cc in dual sport, enduro or adventure, you look like the type of person who still takes on single trails. When you see a dude on a GS 1200, you know there is a pretty big chance that thing ain't going on singles.

    • +3

You need to find some new mates. Or learn to stop worrying about what others think. 🤣

    • Wow you’re so cool

    • +3

A riding instructor choosing bikes based on vanity?

      • Gotta show off for all the new riders. 🤣

      • +1

Glad he wasn't my instructor. I wanted to learn to ride safely, not look like a dork

  • +1

KTM 390 2023 Adventure for the same price on sale I think is a better value proposition.

  • +1

Any good deals on side-cars for this?

  • Apropos of nothing, here are videos of what it looks like after a motorcycle accident. Blood and gore warning.

  • Thanks OPS got 2 !

  • +2

This is actually not bad. The older variants of this bike were gutless wonders (like 20HP), this comes in at 40HP which is much more reasonable. Would be nice if it were just a tad lighter, but realistically most of its competition is either not any lighter, or ancient (DR650) at this point.

    Looks like a nice bike!

EDIT: 181kg dry weight….. 200KG wet puts this squarely into the middleweight category. Not the end of the world, but dry weight is a bullshit advertising number.

  • +2

These look good, fun riding, but heavy. My local dealer is expecting stock around March. I had been interested in getting the KTM 490 Adventure, which didn't eventuate, so the MT450 (it's cousin/replica) is also an option

    • +2

These look good, fun riding, but heavy.

agreed, but depends how they carry the weight really. spec sheet is a terrible way to judge if a bike is heavy.

i would love to see an experiment where experienced riders have to guess the weight of bikes based purely on feel (blindfolded etc).

also, unless you're going a really old model or pretty agricultural for the "adventure-touring" category, you'll struggle to find a much lighter competitor. like cars, bikes are getting heavier.

a final comment is that with pretty standard modifications for the type of bike/rider likely to jump into this category, you'd pretty easily shave nearly 10kgs off the weight of the bike. aftermarket suspension, header and exhaust, lithium battery etc.
