"Embrace kindness, spread positivity, and inspire others. Your words have the power to uplift and create a better world. #BeTheChange"

  • Good specs phone with really good price apart from Snapdragon695 processor which is limited to 1080p video recording only. I think if someone is buying any phone keeps atleast around 2 years should have 4k video recording. But again , everyone's requirement is different. To me it's the only downside along with avg camera quality otherwise good value for the price.

    • +3

I am using moto g82 and always been using moto phone. I don't expect much from their cameras.

      • +1

i don’t expect much from the pictures my friends take , they will show it on their phone and it will look OK …. none have ever captured a David Attenborough moment and it was let down by camera quality, let down is usually subject and composition.

    • My Snapdragon 626 phone offers 4K recording

Geek bench score of 900, putting it slower than a 5 year old iPhone 8.

    That's a bloody bargain, mate

  • How do you decide between G54 and G84 ?

    Bing Lee have the G54 for $267 + $6 delivery, total = $273.

    • +12

      84 > 54 ?

      • +1

        Correct.

    • For the same price (after $100 GC rebate), of course G84 is the better deal. 256GB Storage, 12 GB RAM, OLED Screen, SnapDragon Processor, extra 12 months warranty.

  • +1

G84 or Nokia X30? Both are the same price (after you factor in GC)

    • Yeah this is what I want to know too

motorola anyday!… 2 extra GB of RAM plus memory slot!…

      • I have opened the pack. Can I return as change of mind ?

        • When I checked online chat , they said we can’t return opened item as change of mind

      • +1

not 2 extra GB, it is 6 extra GB (for a total of 12GB!)

    • +1

gotta be the motorola, new nokias are pretty much the worst phone u can possibly purchase

    • +1

G84 no question. G84 = better display + Card slot + headphone jack + much better battery

    • Nokia for far better cam and software support.

      • Damn I'm about to go travelling so camera is pretty important, and I have never had a Motorola with a good camera.

  • gpu, cpu come in so close there is no difference. I see the 84 has more ram, but some have complained about the oled screen ….. What to do ?

My G9's proximity sensor stopped working so I cant make calls without turning on/off every feature of the phone, it's beyond annoying now.

    • +4

they’ll deduct the value of the gift card from the refund, as per standard procedure in most stores

    • +4

Gift card is nullified. If you spend it before you return you will have to pay the difference. Don't be a jerk

        • +3

          Same as stealing, very unethical….

          • +1

@Going Broke: Seen this all the time in OZB, classic tragedy of common. It’s is how all the JB mobile plan deal loop holes got abused and closed.
What this person and other follower did may or may not get the staff in trouble and JB may now think twice doing deals like this if there is too much of these returns.
It’s not just stealing but a selfish thug if you ask me!

            • @easternculture: Why return? Because you don't like it?

              • -1

@OhNoUShiz: Impulse buy. Already have a spare mid range android and a spare iphone 11 pro max

              • +1

@OhNoUShiz: Because his intentions were to steal the gift card to begin with

                • -1

@Mr Bug: Nope. I always impulse buy and return. You should see my amazon account. Dozens of returns from impulse ozbargain buys after i realised weeks later i never used the item.

                  But thanks for your speculation.

                  • +1

@easternculture: Do you realise your escapades may be costing money to genuine Australian businesses. Buy and return, free post etc etc. And the rest of the consumers pay the inflated price to cover the profits.

                  • +2

                    @easternculture: Mate,

Don't lie when anybody can check your post history.

There's so much shit you've commented in the last 6 months where you have multiple accounts, phones, emails, cards, abusing rewards and deals,
as well as returning items and flipping cheap deals for a profit.

This was another buy and return scam.

@Mr Bug: What can i say, living ozbargain life to the max

@easternculture: Let's not cast shade on everyone else, OzBargain life isn't about the rorting.

  • Could Xmas sales have better deals?

  • How to get gift card if getting delivered? Nothing at checkout says anything about it.

    • says it's emailed within 2 weeks :)

When my Pixel 4 stopped working (cracked screen), I bought a $300 Motorola Edge 30. I like it, it's still going strong and I haven't switched back to a Pixel yet. Instead of a cracked screen, the whole phone is bent now but still works and no screen damage. Edit G84 specs

  • This or a54

      • Link suggests a54 by a long mile, so if op can get it on special….
But apart from the a54 having esim, the rest is honestly probably just superficial bs manufacturers are always changing to justify selling you new products.

So with the fact it's on sale, and the gift card, it is definitely better value like u/stephendt said.

        • It is way ahead, hardware, software, camera system, services etc wins by a mile. Cheapest I have seen A54 is $429. Is all these worth $150 extra? I say yes but those who jump on this deal likely say no.

          • @syswong: Hey, i'm more techy then most, and even i have to caution myself that no, i probably do not need the better camera/bluetooth/wifi realistically. Most people i think are fine as long as it's 'new' and will do what they want, or maybe that one thing they've seen somebody else's phone do. Which might be why they'd be extremely ok with the Moto g84.

            • @TiredKitty78: I have order the G84 and setup for my friend (who is also only looking at the dollar sign).

For $150, getting better camera (not just a telephoto lens), better customer / RMA services, better software update / support,l, faster processor ( not fast enough) is 100% worth the extra.

With all the information that we store in smartphone these days, don't know why people underestimate the pitfalls of using poorly support smartphones. I am not saying people should get the latest best phone, but definitely need to get a phone from a well supported brand with track record

    • This is better value

  • Does it come with a case?

    • +1

      Yes!

    • +8

In all my life I have never had a USB port stuff up.

      • +2

I have on a few different devices, but it's rare.

        • Few… Rare…

How many devices do you have?

          • +1

@fantombloo: Or how long have they been alive. I don't consider myself old but between me and my family it's ridiculous the number of phones, laptops and tablets we've gone through.

USB charging has certainly gone kaput on a few of these, even my own devices which I think get treated very well. I definitely rate wireless charging highly on my list of requirements because of it.

Sadly the last phone which exhibited problems charging stopped wireless charging a few months earlier (so perhaps the problem was the battery). But I suppose it gave me the opportunity of a few months to replace it once one of the charging mechanisms broke. It's a LG G8S - I'm still considering replacing modular parts for fun but perhaps not worth the effort.

      • +1

The USB-C port on my LG V50 is completely wrecked. Just ordered a replacement part from Ali express, we'll see how easily I can replace it myself.

      • +1

Around here, that is just asking for it… Even if you have a point in your original comment.

        • -6

Hence the usage of idiot - I'm sure some others have dropped their phones whilst in charge, or kids have played with it , pushed in the wrong cable etc.. and then the pins have bent e.g or water damage/ rust just to name some possible real scenarios… I didn't say it was a bad deal or anything.

      • +2

Because if you rely solely on internal phone storage YOU'RE the idiot?

        • -2

Its not just that.. it renders the phone unusable ( e.g.. suppose you had 20% battery left ,, the count down begins) .. at least if you had wireless you could still charge it… whereas you can't if the port is damaged.

          • @wchau: Why are you trying to use a phone without backups ?!
Setup SMS Backup & Restore to take nightly backups of your Call Log + SMS + MMS to Google Drive, and use Google Photos or Microsoft OneDrive to automatically upload all your photos to the cloud.
WhatsApp already does automatic backups to your Google storage, and your Contacts/Calendar/Email should already be stored in the cloud.

If you break your phone, you just need to restore your backups onto the replacement phone. It shouldn't be a big deal.

            • -1

@Nom: This isn't about me and what I do, its for the collective.
Do you honestly think everyone is like you and everyone is IT literate to do the things you say? I don't think so.
Its similar to your computer, does everyone take backups daily of their Hard drives?.. does everyone know how to setup a daily backup on their PCs to do this? Does everyone backup in the cloud, do people trust the cloud? Does everyone have Google storage?, sorry to say but you can't group everyone to be as diligent and a know how.

Sure replacing a phone isn't a big deal, no one said this.. but you have to replace the phone, if it had wireless charging you could keep on using it.

              • @wchau: I don't dispute any of that - and if someone doesn't know how to do those things, then please pay someone who does before you lose everything !
It's no different to paying a lawyer because you don't know how to do it yourself….

    • +3

I hear where you're coming from, I've had USB C ports stuff up on Nokia and LG high spec phones (for their time)

      • My Edge 30 Ultra is the complete opposite. I'm always getting hassled for the latest security update. Given this is more high end that's probably why.

    • you should backup regularly, or if you have enough cloud storage sync ….i do both with my phone so might only loose a few days.

  • +3

This is a great deal and would be my next Motorola (currently have a Edge 20 Fusion). Only thing is that my current Motorola is still working great and on it's 3rd year.

    • +1

Hard agree. My E20F is like new, screen is still dazzling, fast as I need it to be. Would love a new handset but just cannot justify it

  • +3

As per Motorola Australia, the Moto G84 5G will get three years of bi-monthly security updates, but only one major Android OS upgrade. Given the device comes out of box with Android 13 and will most probably get 14 and that would be it.

    • +5

This is why it's so cheap, Motorola don't care about after sales support, 1 update is pathetic.

  • Dang, bought the G54 a few weeks ago. Now this new release! 🙄

    • Yeah, same boat!

      • Hang on, G84 is dual Nano SiM so no e-SIM option according to JB's site

  • How many years of software update?

    • As per Motorola Australia, the Moto G84 5G will get three years of bi-monthly security updates, but only one major Android OS upgrade. Given the device comes out of box with Android 13 and will most probably get 14 and that would be it.

      • +4

Only one major is update? that's terrible.

        • +1

cam and software support on all moto phones is terrible

        • nokia area great on updates , on oppo now as they has cheaper at time in needed new phone. oppo is ok for the security updates but major u
          date was slow.

  • +1

Interesting, never considered moto before, but dual sim, 6.5" screen, android guess it ticks all my boxes

  • +1

This is FANTASTIC! Was looking for this exact phone! Good find OP!

  • Ok, purchased.

  • Wow, so it's $279 technically?

    • +7

Technically, actually, factually, precisely, undoubtedly, realistically, literally it's $379.05
