  • Their problem is they hardly ever run any discount sales. Not those buy $$$ and get free batteries but the actual, decent discount. Plus, their price has gone from expensive to over priced, at least here in Australia.

    • "They" are EGO, the brand, the importer & distributor, not the retailer. "They" do not run any discounts for the consumers to see.
As for EGO discounts, there have and still are many discounts available, there was one on the front page two days ago. I used one last week, I got an email with a discoint offer from Total Tools a couple of days ago.

"They" are EGO, the brand, the importer & distributor, not the retailer. "They" do not run any discounts for the consumers to see.

Regardless what they are, If you do a search online you will find every major retailers all sell the same EGO product for exactly the same price at any point in time, not even 1c different, which tells me they are controlling the retail price and don't like to run discount for whatever reason.

        • This is the same for other big brand tools. Otherwise they will not be the authorised dealer and purchase through them might not eligible for promotion.

which tells me they are controlling the retail price

That would be illegal, and if they had a contract saying such things, then one of their retailers would blow the whistle to the ACCC as has occurred with many others.

don't like to run discount for whatever reason.

Imagine you sell a product with low margins, how likely are you to run discounts frequently? You don't as a rule unless you are overstocked.
I have seen the invoices for one particular retailers buy price on EGO, and their margin was shite. This is before any rebates that may exist of course, but just like many other brands out there that don't get whored to death, they get to maintain their brands value. This particular retailer used them to then on-sell other complementary items that they made more margin with, this is quite common.
Apple offer crap margins too, it's rare you see good discounts on current product there too, hence when something comes along that isn't really great, it still gets a lot of upvotes, as it's all relative. 10% off at JB on of the shelf Macs would be the most common.

By running value add promotions you stop a brands image from being dropped to whore level while offering a proposition for consumers to jump in and still feel they are getting a deal.
You have been trained to look for discounts, and thus hold no value to anything that doesn't. This is not good business for anyone, yourself included.

@snuke: Of course they will not have a written contract with the retailer. The price fixing will be done via verbal agreements were if you discount suddenly it becomes very difficult to get stock.
The other way a major electrical goods company price fixes in Australia is that when you purchase something from the retailer you are infact purchasing directly from the distributor (A retailer owned by a friend told me about that one)

When this latest battery redemption started I managed to triple dip discounts. I bought the MFC1504E multitool bundle with a decent discount due to it being discontinued. Got it from total tools during one of their sales where u earn 20% of your purchase value as points, and also got to claim 2 batteries through ego redemption (also got a lawnmower at the same time for the redemption / bonus point offers). If you are patient and time it right, discounts are certainly possible.

  • +1

Yeah well we arent that important in Australia rest of the world has latest models, we never see them, just look at their lawnmower range we are nearly 3 models behind rest of the world.

    • +1

yeh you are not wrong about that. I ended up buying the LM2136E-SP-2 which is now 2 models behind what is available in the US. I was intending to buy the 2156 (i think thats the model #), but got sick of waiting. It is now being released in Aus soon, but our old mower died, so i just grabbed the old model. Not overly upset, as it is such a huge improvement over my old petrol mower, but still, it is a bit of a f@#$ing insult that we are so far behind..

Also some products are just flat out not available like the Power+ Nexus Portable Power Station

"Also some products are just flat out not available like the Power+ Nexus Portable Power Station"

Spot on, instead we get the 150w Nexus escape that isn't even a pure sine wave inverter. To make matters worst they are that desperate to get them out the door they are now the only redemption option for $800-$1199 spend.

        • That is probably a design issue.

USA uses 110V AC, which cunningly can be efficiently generated from a 56V DC battery by simple/clever switching.

Generating 230V from 56V DC is much more involved and inefficient.

    • I always wonder about this, and did bitch to an EGO rep at one pint, but got no good answer.
I wonder what modifications are made to work with Aus requirements, what those costs are, and what the MOQ for that production to exist.
If the MOQ is quite high to make a specific Aus production run, then you can end up with stock that will take X amount of time to sell, and that time can be longer than the interval to the next new item. I suffer this problem with some of the items I import, our market is so small, that the MOQ becomes a real issue on selective items, especially those that can have a 12 month lifespan.

  • Just wondering if anyone can recommend a particular mower? My Honda mower has given up and i was thinking of taking the money i would need to spend to repair it and investing it into an electric/cordless mower.

I have a large, uneven yard so would like to get the biggest, cheapest mower possible.

I'm kind of worried that an all plastic mower might not be sturdy enough, has anyone found the construction of these things to be lacking?

    Cheers!

Do not be concerned about the poly decks, they are tough as hell.
If you go one of these options, you will also get a free 7.5Ah battery by redemption - LM2156E-SP or LM2156E-SP-2. That said, they are not the cheapest options for largest size.

I would make sure to go a Self Propel model though, makes a huge difference.

    • +2

I thrash mine and while it has a few battle scars, nothing to affect the operation. Built tough.
Love the lighter weight and self propel for my slopes and tight angles.
It's also good for uneven if you need to guide it over divets etc because of the weight.

  • My only gripe with my ego mower is it doesn't cut low enough, i know some of new usa models have more height adjustments

  • Any opinions on this one? Bit over $800 for after cashrewards.

Have a cordless ozito atm and just tired of doing 2 passes lifting the deck during summer when the grass grows ridiculous. Just 400sqm~ block so smaller deck is ok as long as it can plow through a bit of overgrown. Blower would be a plus as don't have one atm.

  • Just saw they have another discount for the pole saw kit at $598
