  • For $1600 still can’t go lower than 25mm … really hoping to get an electric mower that can manage 10mm ish so I don’t need to hire a ICE to scalp once a year.

    • Toro has a 17" model (eMulticycler) that goes down to 19mm, but their standard 22" (eRecycler) only does 25mm too.

      https://www.toro.com.au/product/17-43-cm-emulticycler-self-p…

    • Even using it for couch at 25mm as your regular mower is way too long for me. Ive had two egos. If i want my lawn to look really good or do a height reset or scalp / renovation I have to fire up the victa. Great mowers if all you want to do is cut the grass and dont care what it looks like. My latest is a select cut model and it's no better. Reasonable power but it took me forever today to do a height reset on my kikuyu rear lawn. It cut out twice a meter for most of the lawn.

      • The makita SP one that was $999 does 20mm

      • For some reason only the smaller models (18" Makita, 17" Toro, etc) go lower. There might not be enough power to scalp the grass consistently. It's not really their selling feature.

I have to say, the steel frame models seem better at that height. 20mm is perfectly fine if you have a steel body as it pushed quite hard on to the surface and gives a more consistent cut. Yes, it's harder to push but these electric mowers typically help you push anyway.
The light bodies will lift easily, give inconsistent results and longer grass.

        • Agreed. I followed the lead of many other disappointed ego users and put a bag of potting mix on to of the mower to improve the cut. The self drive versions are especially bad. Hit the slightest bump and the front wheels lift.

    • I have a Masport M-tech that uses the same deck as their petrol mowers I believe. I had an Ego mower years ago, but had to sell it because of deck height and the extended front profile. Ryboi's have similar issues with deck height too

At this pricepoint I'm looking at robotic mowers

Time to edit a few receipts to get some new batteries

Any specials on a brush cutter??

    $1600 for a mower?!

    • Harry potter and the return of the Petrol Mower it is!

    • There's probably $1200 worth of batteries though

Unless Ego fixes the issues with the batteries dying after a few years (similar to Milwaukee), I'm not investing in an Ego mower system. My Makita LXT batteries are still going great after 9 years. My 18Vx2 mower is underpowered, but at least every single one of my 9 batteries are still good without a noticeable drop in run time when mowing.

So for the price of the 3 batteries ($1,539) get the mower thrown in for $60? Something doesn't add up.

    • Shaving razor business model. They get you to replace the batteries every 3 years when out of warranty.

      • A few of my batteries have just hit 3 years. I havent had any issues with any of them. I never store mine either flat or fully charged, generally at 2-3 bars. Also the batteries have been stored in the house, not a garden shed. I really hope they continue to work fine when being treated correctly..

        • I think your approach is a good one. Annoying to implement but seems effective. I have multiple EGO batteries all dead. Most failed between 2.5-4 years. The bigger ones seems to last the shortest. Apparently on US sites they're not supposed to be left on the charger whereas the AU manual says to leave it there. Planned obsolescence? Poor product design? All of the above.
