    Not as quiet as N40L

Maybe not, but it has 4 expansion slots and dual gigabit.

Please remember people that itspot, tech4u, wacomputers and dropshipcentral are all the infamous MEGABUY in a flimsy disguise. This doesn't mean it'll go bad for you if you do buy anything, but at least you'll now know who you're actually dealing with. Caveat emptor.

Never heard of Megabuy? Acquaint yourself by reading through some experiences that others have had -

Both are registered to Nick Shelomanov. Shenanigans!

Wise words from our beloved friend Nick

"The HP micro-server. They're absolutely awesome, and a really popular item. Basically it's just kind of a cheap hardware that's incredibly useful."

"It's perfect for running any kind of firewall, and we've migrated everything to those servers for $200 a pop. I use one at home, I've got them all over the place work. They're a great product."

Seems like his $15 million empire was created with this product.

But … it's not a proper server according to the spiel above?

Server is over $650 alone from most sellers and is a proper server, not an N40L!

          Isn't the revision system wonderful.

    Thanks Foobar,

Do you work for the competition? lol

    We always appreciate your input.

No I certainly do not. You've built yourselves such a stellar reputation that you have to wear a disguise in public and I think it's only fair that people know EXACTLY who they are dealing with instead of being duped into buying from someone whom they may have had a horrid experience with before.

For those that haven't had the pleasure of dealing with you, they can do some reading, consider themselves informed and then decide if they wish to go ahead with their purchase.

Why does ONE company have at least FOUR "shopfronts" on the web?

      • You don't earn $15millions without making few enemies..:p

        • Turnover and earnings are two very different things.

4 Drive bays only. You're better off making an elcheapo pc with a case that holds more drives.

    • N40L can fit 6 SATA (5 SATA + 1 eSTA)! and cheap!

    • +4

elcheapo pc vs an actual server by HP? If you're a home user sure, but definitely not for a business.

An N40L really can't be compared to an i3 server. They're for different tasks.

To be fair, I've purchased a few things from megabuy over the years. They've been mostly fine - I received what I ordered. The last order took WAY too long though. Fortunately it wasn't an urgent item, so I cancelled it and ordered it from overseas. They refunded my money the next day.

    • I guess I'm pretty lucky that I never had any issue with megabuy since last 3 years.. but I must admit that megabuy vs dessytek issue last time with N36L was not a professional action by Nick..:)

      • +1

Has this image got anything to do with that?

        • +1

You still have that iconic photo..lol stalker XD

        • +1

No, just a link to it. I don't know who the host is, kept a link for a moment such as this.

      • What's the story? I missed it. Care to link some WP threads? I'm sure it would be an interesting read considering Megabuy's colourful history

        • +1

I think this is the right thread, if not just use the link from my 1st post above and browse.

        • Thanks mate! Already lol-ing after reading the first few posts. Sounds like the start of an abs sh1t-fest. :P

        • Unfortunately a lot of what Nick posts gets deleted, not sure if there's any in that thread though. He rarely posts now, always gets shredded when he does, plus we've heard every possible excuse now anyway so there's no point really.

      • +2

Hahaha yes I remember that.. real stupid move by megabuy.

For those who tl;dr, this is basically what happened:
        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1697165&p…

    • I have had the same experience … I have received everything, but sometimes takes a very damn long time.

One thing that really annoys me though is that after you place an order online it asks me to rate them. The website and purchasing process is fine, very good … it's what happens AFTER this where it sometimes falls down. So ask us to rate you after we have received the goods!!

Good price for this item, It is a huge step up performance wise to the N40L, great if you want to do some cpu intensive tasks (handbrake, DC++ etc etc)

  • Bizarre that the Sandy i3s support ECC but not i5s or i7s.

    • So it doesnt intrude into the E3 xeon market.

  • Is the raid card on this machine any good? Whilst there are 4 slots, there seems to be 6 raid ports?

  • Can the ML110 be modified to mount in a standard rack?

    • No its a tower. You could get a shelf and sit it sideways if you were really keen.

      • You can - HP Rack To Tower Conversion Kit. We have one for an ML350…

  • what is the power consumption on these like? I get 50w from my n40, so don't mind leaving it on 24/7. Really would like more cpu for the same power.

  • Is there a KVM over IP card available for this machine?
(Sometimes called remote management card … iLO .. etc)

a N40L is a real server. Its in the Microserver range using server quality components.

    • It's a real server. Just not one that medium to large businesses would run in Production. It has no redundancy apart from the Raid controller, and even that isn't replaceable.

It's great for small businesses though, and even better for home NAS/HTPC (with some mods), and the price is right! :)

      • If a medium to large business were even thinking of running their business on a $199 server, they have far larger things to worry about than RAID.

A low-powered server made with server-quality components is still a real server - just not one suited to every job.

  • Nice price - don't suppose there are any Xeon upgrades available?

  • Can you please confirm that the HP Product Code for this item is QU181A and that it is displayed on the tax invoice as such?

    Thanks
