The 256gb one is less than double of that discounted price. Maybe buy that instead (its not even on sale)

    • +10

For those using it in a Blackvue Dashcam. Alot of the older units max out at 128GB. You cannot use a 256GB in them.

      • ^this! Learnt that the hard way (but thankfully, Amazon Returns FTW!)

      • Now I'm intrigued. This is really uncommon, not impossible, just, bizarre.
Mostly because they're the EXACT same card technology. We're not jumping from SDHC to SDXC like back in the day; wer're already there….

Usually it's the FAT size; if you set larger clusters when you format the card, you'll have it work.
This is VERY common on older hardware.
Though, if it's a 256GB card it should already be selecting 32KB cluster sizes.
You can try 64KB (its not technically within spec, but is supported in most devices); or perhaps it's expecting SMALLER, and you could try 16KB?

        • +1

It's probably uncommon now, but not 8 or 9 years ago. The older Blackvue's (mine's the Blackvue DR650GW-2CH cloud edition) only take a 128Gb card maximum.

          • +1

@KangaDrew: It sounds like it's more common now, if anything.
I've been playing the 'hack memory card firmware' game since 2003-ish.

Just seems so ridiculous. Makes you wonder why they arbitrarily limited it?
Unless it's the byte size of the FAT, there'd be no other reason for it not to accept any size within the same standard.

            Probably just planned obsolesence.
Cards get bigger, cards get cheaper, people "need" a newer camera.

Even my Nokia N95 from 2007 still takes my 512GB cards (it's just an MP3 player these days).

        • +1

Plenty of IP cameras which are maximum 64GB etc as well.

    • +2

It's a shame VIOFO doesn't recommend these cards for their dash cams.

      • +1

SanDisk Max Endurance 256GB is all time low from Amazon UK

        • Still $56..

          • +1

@CVonC: Was $70 before Black Friday and that was already all time low so it's a pretty good deal. You can also get the Sandisk Extreme for cheaper also recommended by Viofo. Don't be too stingy because it can be the difference between your video footage being messed up or not recording properly.

        • Yes, I have already ordered one of the Max Endurance 256GB card last weekend.

      • +1

Why? I have been using it for the last 2 years, works like a charm !

        • Don't know, but VIOFO says so on their website.

      • +2

Don't let brand partnerships influence your purchase decisions.
Buy the best deal that meets your required specs :)
These work great in my VIOFO, and I'm running custom high bitrate firmware.

        • I have read some people have no problem running these Samsung cards on their VIOFO dash cams.
But I guess if your video become corrupted with one of their NOT recommended cards, then you cannot blame VIOFO.

          • @edfoo: First, I dont think theyd accept blame anyway.

Secondly, you sure could (for all the good it would(nt) do). The required card specs are in the manual, if it meets the specs, it should work, no asterisks.

      • didn't VIOFO only recommend cards from their own brand (for obvious reason)?

        • +2

No. VIOFO recommends three cards: VIOFO Industrial Grade, Sandisk Max Endurance and Sandisk Extreme.

  • Just came here to post this deal haha - ya beat me to it!

Perfect timing, as the card in one of my surveillance cams shat itself this morning.

    • what's with the negs?

      • Some members have leftover neg votes for today, so might as well neg someone XD

      • +1

        :(

  • +1

well time to return the Black Friday order and order this

    • +1

This will be my 3rd order in less than 2 weeks as it's even cheaper than the one I ordered last week. The things we'll do to save a few bucks :-)

  • No cash back right ? This is definitely computer cat?

  • +1

Viofo does not recommend using Samsung endurance microsd cards for their dashcams. Has anyone had any problems with pairing them?

    • Wonder why. N thought they were destined to gned for the r dashcams

    • thanks for the comment, i was about to buy this for my new Viofo dashcam

      • +2

Buy this instead SanDisk Max Endurance 256GB, on amazon

        • is it on offer? otherwise happy to wait

          • @Dave1988: It's like $56…

          • @Dave1988: Lowest ever at the moment from Amazon uk. Bought two for the new viofo dashcams I bought for my folks.

    • It will work just fine (I've been using it for a while), though I'm not quite sure why they don't recommend it myself.

      • +1

Is it actively “not recommended” or is it simply not on their recommended list?

        • In their not recommended list

        • +1

There was some discussion on the previous viofo post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14582707/redir
I don't believe it's actively "not recommended", their list doesn't make any sense to me as they put a non-endurance card on there too.

Perhaps they have a deal with Sandisk? Or it's whatever they collated as community feedback.

          • @itchy scratchy: Don't think so, because they recommend Sandisk Extreme, but they don't recommend Sandisk Extreme Plus (which is newer and faster). Weird.

    • +2

Been using one for 6 months now. 0 problems

    • FYI, I'm using this SD Card on my viofo and I have no problem with the recording or any weird thing.

Just bought 256gb for $22 from JB hifi price match from thegoodguys

    • +3

How? Samsung Pro Endurance 256gb is showing up as $50 on the JB Hifi website

      • +2

And TGG is selling it for $95 lol, what a price match!!

    • +1

Bet it was price matching this deal - which is not the same as this OPs deal.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/816169

    • +2

Evo plus and Endurance Pro are different.

    • Sorry it was evo plus different with this

    • Easy, bring the 256gb to the blind guy, ask them to type in the new price . Profit

  • Bought one, thanks OP.

Recently pulled the last Endurance card out of the dashcam, and promptly lost the damn thing.

  • +1

For anyone else also looking for memory cards for a Viofo dashcam, here’s the list of supported memory cards as per Viofo: https://support.viofo.com/support/solutions/articles/1900013…

    • thanks mate - pretty black and white -

  • +2

Using the 256gb Samsung Pro Endurance on my Viofo dashcam. No problems encountered.

  • For Viofo owners the recommended 256gb SanDisk Extreme is $35. But this isn't an endurance card.

  • Thanks op got 256gb version for my UDR.

  • I recently picked up a Viofo A119 Mini 2 which has a max supported size of 512GB

  • +1

For people using Thinkware (mines U1000 front and rear) i can confirm 256GB works even though Thinkware says max 128gb

    • Thanks for sharing! Got the 256gb one instead for my u1000

  • Sorry off the post, which dash cam is popular or recommended which can work even the engine is off.

    • I went for one of these. Specs seem really good for the price and it retains functionality when the engine is off (I think it's called "Park Mode").

Just keep in mind that the max capacity is 128gb.

  • +1

need something similar but sooner https://www.amazon.com.au/Sandisk-Endurance-microSDXCTM-Adap…

Edit just checked it not sold by amazonau but on the rhs you can select from them for the same price

  • what about this one? yes its not endurance and its evo plus but seriously can you tell the difference as long as it stores whatever you are recording?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/813730

    • but seriously can you tell the difference as long as it stores whatever you are recording?

And can you always tell that it is storing what you are recording? If the card isn't working properly, you might not know until you try pull data off it if the camera hasn't figured it out. And even if the camera has figured out there's a problem with the card, it might be positioned so the driver doesn't see error messages.

      • yeah but based on what you are saying, are you saying the endurance memory card is more reliable than the EVO memory card?

        • +4

The Endurance, as the name suggests, is specifically made for high write cycles. The Plus looks to be a fast transfer model for high bandwidth. e.g. car dashcams vs the weekly or monthly 4K gopro video.

          • +1

@rumblytangara: Not sure are there any proper comparisons between these memory cards, but the product statement says Endurance cards are better for long continuous data writing such as dash cam or security cam recording. Others like EVO Plus or Extreme are good for short recording in digital camera or drone video.

            • @edfoo: That's…. pretty much exactly what I said?

            • @edfoo: Theres a whole range of specifications on sd cards! we just generally think they are all the same

            • @edfoo: i understand and yep planning on getting security camera so i guess i'll go with the endurance

  • 0% claimed but 57 positive votes on ozbargain?

    • must be a bug, I bought one a couple of hours ago or maybe they allocated a huge number

  • So I bought 4 a couple of days ago, will Amazon refund the difference?

    • you can try but I tried on something else a few days ago and will just refund when the other turns up

      • Just tried and got it done pretty easily.

  • For what it's worth, I've been using a regular Samsung Evo card in my dashcam for a few years now without any problems (as I already had a spare on hand), but that's because I only record when the car is on and I don't drive much. If I didn't already have that card though, I'd go endurance.

  • Bought the 256GB one for my Nintendo switch olded, getting one for Christmas, should arrive prior

  • Looks like they got more stock.
