    Need 8GB RAM filter ,

    • Is it just a problem with the M2s?

Annoyingly all of those seem to be 8gb.

      • +1

Apple says the 8GB model performs like 16GB (clown.jpg)

      • +1

Yeah. Thats how they make you pay $300 to add another 8GB RAM when it costs them like $80. Wanna upgrade that 256GB by another 256GB? Another $300 thank you. Thats $600 ontop of the base price to get something decent that will last you 5 years.

    incl M3?

    • +11

      Yes.
Here’s the trick how to check that: I just opened the deal link and the very first result shows “MacBook Pro 14-inch with M3 Pro Chip, 512GB SSD (Space Black)[2023]”.

  • No, cannot buy any off 15% gift card…

    • I can ;) Did you check the freezers?

Great price with the 15% off gift cards. Their high-end M3 Max only goes to 48gb, though it's unbinned, which is great. If flyer points aren't your thing, this is a good deal considering Apple don't have any offers on them.

I got an unbinned M3 Max with 64gb and 2TB from the education store for a touch under $6300 recently, with 20x woolies points gift cards. I'd argue it was the better buy, but this deal gave me pause.

    • Unbinned?

    • How do you like it? Also, what made you choose the 14" instead of 16"?
I started looking at the same config (or maybe 1TB as the extra $500 is just …)
I'm still trying to figure out if this config or this (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/macbook-pro-16-inch-with-…) with 15% GC is better - assuming GC availability :)
      Thanks

Unbinned = full capacity cores (there's 2 less CPU cores and 10 less GPU cores on the binned M3 Max chip).

I utterly adore it, though I haven't gotten into any extreme rendering yet to really test it out. I'm an author and I work in film & TV, so I need it for V.R. and volume work, I'm upgrading from a Windows intel laptop with a 2060. Day to day stuff like Photoshop and Lightroom is butter. In the week I've been using it I have never heard the fan. I used it the other day for a few hours, left it unplugged overnight, used it a few more hours the next day and it was on 86% battery still!

I valuable portability over power, though thermal throttling is an issue with the 14" on CPU intensive tasks (not so much GPU apparently). It might shave as much as 10% off some tasks (but only some). If you really value performance over portability, go the 16" - especially if it'll act like a desktop most of the time.

For me, a 14" is just light and small enough to take everywhere and use more often around the house, too (while in the home theatre etc); I'll get more value out of a device that I engage with more often. Plus it makes showing execs & decision makers stuff really impressive when you can whip out a desktop-class beast to showcase a render or something interactive. There's nothing worse than showing something to someone who'll decide your fate and saying "Sorry, just give it a sec… hold on, won't be long now…"

        RAM > Storage

You will rarely need high-speed storage, so T7 drives or cased NVMe drives will be fine for most your use cases. If choosing between RAM and storage, go RAM. The model at JB is excellent. It's unbinned, so it has 20% more GPU capacity (which doesn't seem to throttle nearly as badly as the CPU so it's worth the upgrade). And it has 48b RAM, which is pretty great.

It's a fantastic buy if you don't need the extra 1TB & 16gb via the EDU store. Personally, I regret not getting 128gb RAM, but that said I'm also yet to need it. I'm simply future proofing.

          Thanks a lot!
Really great explanation! I know that RN I dont need that much power (CPU/GPU/RAM). However, as you mentioned buying a god-tier version will help to future proof as I’m hoping to get 3-5years out of that beast. Historically speaking thats easily achievable with a MBP.
