It is irrelevant if they are big in any cycling groups. I tried a number of different brands and nothing compared to Assos… If Assos were 3x more expensive sure, but when it is cheaper than Pedal Mafia - no brainer.
Pedal Mafia is not an "Australian business" as such, they are just profiteers buying apparel in Asia and selling it in Aus. 90% of the noname brands are like that. They do not manufacture in AU. Their staff is probably a CEO and a marketing director and a couple of online salesmen. If we are talking about eployment, Assos probably would have more staff in AU.

There are regular specials in all major retailers, at least Pushys and 99bikes allow buying discounted gift cards every now and then. Mille GT Jersey I paid around $75 and for Assos Equipe RS S9 Summer Black bibs I paid around $130. You can not just do it on whim, need to wait for specials, get gift cards, so a bit of work and wiating is required…
My local op shop had a ton of bike shirts for $3.5 each. Of course doesn't come with that pedal mafia clout tho
