I'm doing a huge price drop on these units

Sorry working now, was taking system was taking a minute to sync.

  • +4

Showing $245.70 to me with eBay+.

  • +7

Buyers Be aware, check the history of this seller to avoid any disappointment.

    • +1

Buying from ACT during 'hige price drop' could be buying scrap or a lottery tbh. You might or might not get a good product, if it's not up to standard, you better have ebay plus to return it under change of mind.

They might offer you a bit of refund to keep the product.

    • +10

My personal history with them, after buying a few small businesses worth of ex-gov stock is really good.

They happily swap faulty things no extra questions asked, and are generous with free cables if you need them.

Never shopped with them online though.

      • +2

That defeats the purpose of having an online store when they can't guarantee their product's quality across the board. Some are a apples and others are just lemon.

        • +4

The prupose of an online store is so we can shop online isnt it?

          They have a 180day warranty.

It was just at the start of the pandemic when i used them last, and they tested items before selling.

You'll always shoulder a LITTLE risk when buying used items.

          • +2

            @MasterScythe: "They have a 180day warranty."

BS ,, Hard to get a response.. see the comments form ppl on the other threads..

            • +1

              @chutibuti: Just tried;
They answered the phone 2nd ring.

Note: Sorry for the prank call OP, lol.
Was just curious how easy it was or wasnt to get a response.

              • +1

@MasterScythe: Yup but the moment you tell them it's bought via eBay they ask you to message as it's against eBay guidelines to contact outside of this channel, which I understand.

I can only talk about the 1x experience I had with them, it was bit of a run around

          • +2

@MasterScythe: Being a certified "refurbished" they have a 1-year warranty… Click the "Refurbished" link up the top right of the listing:
            https://pages.ebay.com.au/refurbished-program/#refurbished
1-Year Warranty - That's right. 365 days of satisfaction or your money back

I know for a fact they don't do what is claimed on that page, 30-point inspection and such, but at least you can attempt to hold them to the 1-year warranty and money-back…

            • @FLICKIT: Does this apply to all ebay users or plus users only?

              • @thomalfa: It appears to be all users.. I just opened the listing in an incognito window and the same info was there, the same Refurbished link and 1-year warranty info….

                • @FLICKIT: Thanks… shouldn’t be much worry as long as ebay and paypal step in… I suppose when it comes to inconclusive arguments

                  • +2

@thomalfa: Paypal is only good for 180 days, and I'm not sure how much help ebay or the seller would be from 180 to 360 days…

With refurbs it's always best to check them over fully and test every port and function when you first get them, make sure you've got exactly what you purchased… These little business Dells are pretty reliable so it's unlikely you'll have any issues if you actually get a good 'as described' one to start with…

(in the past I've had refubs from these guys with the wrong CPU, wrong Ram, stuffed ports, stuffed battery, so ALWAYS check EVERYTHING)

            • +2

              @FLICKIT:

I know for a fact they don't do what is claimed on that page, 30-point inspection

That has been proven many times. But at least you can get a refund if unhappy. Best to have Ebay plus, then no need to argue with them.
But they are cheap, and 80% of the time you get what was described or better.

      • +1

I shopped online with them. Very happy with results.

    • I bought a micro from them a year ago. No issues and quick delivery, so I am happy.

    • +2

I have bought a number of these small form PC's for servers around the house. They have been pretty good so far.

These things make great dedicated home assistant servers.

    • +2

Anecdotal, but I've bought 3 refurbished units from them so far and apart from a missing cable (that they promptly sent to me once I let them know) there have been zero issues.

Okay so you can deal with ACT. If there is still a problem you can get ebay to step in. If there is still a problem you can get paypal to step in. If there is still a problem you can issue a chargeback.

What the heck is this beware FUD??

      • I think it's more of be aware than beware

      • there is still a problem you can get paypal to step in. If there is still a problem you can issue a chargeback.

Yes, that is what ppl ended up with :) ..

Yes , it is cheaper ,, but for $50-100 difference , you have to decide whether the risk is worth, again lets see how this thread is going to end..

    • They don't sell rubbish this is a good company I have purchased twice from them.

  • Drop the price for the 7070 instead pls

    • I can't sorry, already at its lowest.

    • The 9500T isn't much better than the 8500T is it? I was looking at those, but it wasn't worth the extra for minimal performance benefits

      • From my research the main thing I believe was it being one generation newer, I believe.

  • 16Gb Ram

    Is this 1x16 or 2x8?

    • +7

Out of the 20 or so that I personally checked, they were 1 x 16Gb sticks, however, since there are about 1500 units it's not something I'm able to guarantee or people will be able to request this time.

        • +23

Buy a new PC. Or a second hand one from gumtree.

The additional cost for the OP to have someone spend their time to open up each PC, add it to an inventory stock list with each different component listed and post separate ads would just increase the end price. It's a $200 PC, not a $1000 PC.

            • +2

              @Ademos:

              Yes, that's the point. Why wouldn't I?

              Price, and warranty, usually.

Rare to get the second from Gumtree.

            • +4

@Ademos: Well, the "why wouldn't I" comes down to price. Again, this is a $200 PC, not a $1000 PC.

Providing more services = more cost = higher price to end consumer. I don't believe your assumption around 5 seconds is accurate.

OP is clear what they are providing and said they are not providing more than that. That is their prerogative. If you don't agree with it, go and buy a PC from somewhere else.

                • +4

@Ademos: So then by my maths, you are saying you can take apart all 1,500 of the stocked PCs in 2 hours and 5 minutes. I think you're dreaming. Even then, you still need to inventory each component, post different ads etc. It's a lot more work than 5 seconds per PC.

Take an objective look at your comments vs mine. The only one emotional here is you.

                    • +2

                      @Ademos:

I get ozbargain likes a bargain but is there no line?

I don't expect there would be. A bargain is a bargain.
Living 'cheap' often means taking the small less important things into your own hands

                    • +3

@Ademos: Not wanting to check 1500 units for a specification that might affect maybe 2 buyers is pretty reasonable. And it's not like it's false advertising since it's listed as "16GB".

                      • -6

@BROKENKEYBOARD: 2 buyers? Sounds like it'd be and quick, easy, and small request to accommodate.

Can't have it both ways chief.

                        • +3

                          @Ademos:

Can't have it both ways chief.

I don't understand your point. They are the ones selling it, they choose however they want to sell it. If you don't want to buy it then don't buy it.

                • +2

@Ademos: apply with a job with them and do the 5 second inspections and recording …. if they pay you $1 per PC this could be some extra cash for christmas …

            • @Ademos: Assuming your 5 seconds estimate it correct, its not but whatever. Are you willing to pay someone a little over 2 hours (5 seconds x 1500 units) for something most people wouldn't really care about on a product this cheap?

              • @uNoWhO: As per the listing ..
                Condition
Very Good - Refurbished: The item shows minimal wear. It is fully functional and has been professionally refurbished, tested, inspected and cleaned to very good condition by the eBay seller or a third party. The item includes original or new accessories and may come in generic packaging. See the seller's listing for full details.

So they MUST be spending more than 5sec or this is a false claim

                • @chutibuti: 5 extra seconds to look and note which has what. Even more if they start telling customers which one they will receive, so since you ignored the question ill ask again, are you willing to pay the extra 2 hours of someones time it would take to do that task?

                  • @uNoWhO: Where on earth did you get it taking 2 hours to check the PC they're packaging to ship while they package it to ship.

                • @chutibuti: Right? If they've been inspected, you'd look. If they'd been tested, it's easy to print out the ram config.

                  • +3

@Ademos: It seems like you have some ideas of how to run a small business that resells old PCs as refurbished. Have you considered going into this industry? You could build a name for yourself, post on here and even offer an additional fee of $5 as you said before, to check for the ram layout. You could even charge for other items like finding specific models of SDDs or whatever. Maybe consider going into business if you think the market is missing something and you could differentiate.

                    • -3

@b2dz: Have you considered making your own clothes, growing your own food, casting your own glass windows, refining your own fuel?

I'm not engaging you further. Enjoy your evening.

  • The listing has HDMI included in the Connectivity but I can't see anything in the pictures, do these come with HDMI? Thanks!

    • That's only via the optional port in the rear, however, most of the time it's occupied by another display port cable. However a DP to HDMI cable or adapter will solve your issue.

    • +2

@Levence, double check the photos and see if the other Display port is a DP++ port. If it is you can use a passive Display Port to HDMI cable to get video output without issues. I hope this helps. I just checked the photos myself and both Display Ports are DP++.

    • Yea I agree that display port is BS totally, it insane I thought I got a broken PC sold to me when I first got my SFF PC. .(not this listing). then reliased it is another port not a broken hdmi, and I just needed a DISPLAY PORT TO HDMI adaptor for this, (then it all worked fine)

Get something like this IMO - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134657590787 its only like < $6, listing says 4K 60 Hz but I dont really think its 4K @ 60 hz

  • Damn, this is the model I'm after so i can do live migrations on my xcp-ng lab, but i need the same cpu family… any chance of getting the i7 8700 at around the same priceish?

    • negative - but if you get your hands on an 8700t the 8500t's sell for around $80, so they may not be much of a changeover.

      • Damn, shame i can't pay the extra 50 odd bux. Guess I'll just wait till i can :)

    • This is the same family. It is not a problem 👍

  • Thanks OP, was happy with the last one of these so going again on this one - more ram is a bonus

  • Thanks OP. Could you clarify the SSD type? Is it NVMe? Leaving room for a SATA drive to be added?

    • +1

From the few that I saw it was M.2, but again with so many units I can't guarantee it.

      • Thank you, understood. Assuming it is M.2, what type of SSD should I buy to expand the storage?

        • I don't think M.2 SATA is really a thing anymore, it was very briefly. NVME should see you good. You should wait to inspect before buying anything in advance. Could also look up the motherboard at that point.

      • +1

How are these refurbed if you're not even looking at what is inside them? :D

I got one of these from you a few weeks ago, it didn't even come with built-in wifi/bluetooth and I paid a lot more than this :(

        • +1

How are these refurbed if you're not even looking at what is inside them? :D

Good question ,, as I mentioned previously & can see from the previous threads .. it seems not even simple wipe..

          • @chutibuti: To be fair the one I got was clean and in really good nick and came with the SATA bracket and optional HDMI port. No Wifi/BT inside though.
1 x 16GB RAM stick meant I was able to add a second for 32GB. Shame the m.2 was a slow sata one, I ended up replacing it

        • +1

They claim they have a 30-Point Inspection, lol, I'd like to know what those 30-points are?… That may just mean they look at 30 random points on the case and say "she's done, all good", lol
          https://pages.ebay.com.au/refurbished-program/#refurbished
30-Point Inspection - Every product is thoroughly tested and held to demanding standards before being sold to you

            @FLICKIT: 30 points = lottery

            • ssd is nvme or sata
            • ram is 1x 16GB or 2x 8GB
            • optional port is HDMI or display

if only dell didn't have custom mb's. the 8500t's are great for plex/jellyfin transcoding setups.

    • Don't most of these Micro PCs have custom mobos?

      • Yes.

      • yeah they do, which is a shame imo. Would be fantastic starting points for a home server if they didn't, shove the whole thing into a nas case and you'd be sweet

        • -1

You're not getting the form factor without custom-something.

You're basically saying it's a shame that a prius isn't AWD turbo and capable of 0-100kph in 2 seconds while towing a caravan.

Like, we get it, it's possible, but it's so far removed from the intention of this product that it's a stupid point to make.

          • +6

            @Ademos: lol chill dude.

The hardware in this machine is more than capable of performing, the i5 8500t in particular is an excellent chip for home server use due to the lower clock speeds/lower TDP, quick sync version while having all the grunt you could want for a few years to come. You can buy this, use it as is and it'd be a fantastic transcoding box for the money. It's also small enough to fit pretty much anywhere. It's still a good buy.

you could use it for more than just a basic pc, it's just that the custom mb limits it a bit in that respect and that's all I'm expressing.

Also please stop using car analogies, they never work unless you're talking about cars.

        • +1

I've seen people do exactly that, but with a catch.
They just leave the lid off, and put the whole PC, with HBA card sticking out the top, inside a larger NAS-centric case.

          Hacky, but worked.

    • So these are good for Plex font ends? I bought a Synology 1522 which doesn't have supported GPU for transcoding and wanting that functionality now, would this be good for that use case?

      • +1

yup as a pure plex box it'll do well.

  • -2

Very $$$ without plus (and probably still too many $ even with), and im never buying a subscription as i rarely buy from Ebay, just not cost effective…

    • +1

Seems pretty cheap to me. Also eBay Plus has a 1 year sub for $9.99 at the moment. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/808968

      • +3

Yeah i just dont buy anything from there anymore, too many ripoff merchants since COVID, it seemed to bring out the worst in people, and they seem reluctant to reset to being decent human beings, dont see the point in paying a (even $10) premium to be fudged over…

        • +1

          ebay rapes sellers even worse

          it needs to die

    • Very $$$ without plus

Huh? It's only $5 dearer without plus.

      • i think you missed the part where i said all around its prolly too many $

i never saw it get close to the claimed $199.20

  • Price has changed?

  • Gone already?

    • In previous comment says 1500 units. Only 182 sold showing on ebay listing.
