Lol someone bought the item was watching while waiting for this code

    • Return.

eBay price guarantee is useless, can't be from another eBay listing..

      • Also the item has to be new which wont apply to refurbished items.

        • Oh yeah forgot about that but happened to be on the chat and found it bs eBay can't beat eBay.

          • @G-rig: few days ago already chat with ebay asked about the same item and they said no problem can return, no need to pay shipping fee.

            • @CyberMurning: Cool. I cancelled an order anyway and order again. Just ridiculous no price guarantee from another eBay plus listing.

              • @G-rig: too late for me already shipped. i msg the seller and see what they say, hopefully offer partial refund to match the current price

While it's a good deal for xm5. People like me who have xm3 can skip it for now.
    https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/sony-wh-1000…

    • Unless you want better microphone for calls

      • Xm5 is much better for calls, didn't have much luck xm4.

        • +1

Xm1 to xm4 are all dreadful for calls
No need to upgrade my xm4s just yet but it’s nice to know that after 4 iterations Sony finally had a crack at doing better.

      • That's true but If someone who mainly use it for gym, public transport, and at home, xm3 is so much better. If someone is after for a better microphone, I see that BOSE headphones offer comfort and better microphone for zoom meetings? Also XM5 is not foldable so i think some people dont find its convenient to carry around.

        • Wow these XM3's sound unreal lol what year released?
i'm sure there are better work dedicated headsets if you are on teams meetings all day (like the jabra elite).

I can't imagine wearing massive headphones to the gym whilst working out but you see some plonkers with beats by dre on. Surely they'd get sweaty and are intrustive phsically.

The XM5 fold flat and easy to slip into the supplied case, but I know what you mean - the XM4 folds up a little bit smaller and i'm assuming people just bang them in the bag or coat pocket without the case so not really the same thing protection wise.

          • @G-rig: Correct, the XM5 cups can turn to fold flat. The case that comes with the XM5 is only a bit wider than the X4's case (I have both).

            • @Buy2Much: Yes not a big deal just different and maybe not as rugged (but sound a bit more natural and I prefer the comfort). Both good.

Please be cautious when ordering refurbished Sony XM5s. Last time they sent me a faulty one, and I had to return it. It's been over a month, and I still haven't received the refund.

    • Did you order from sony store ebay? I've heard refurb headphones are essentially brand new from this store.

      • +1

Sony eBay is really bad for communications

      • Yes, bought from Sony Store.

    • Which part was faulty?

      • +1

There was a continuous hissing noise on left side when ambient mode is on.

    • I had the same issue with refurbished XM4s I bought through eBay Sony store. No issues with the refund though.

    • Couple of years ago I bought a large stand up/party speaker from them.
When I unpacked it I could not get it to work. Looking closer I found a big gash in the power cord, like someone cut into it with a box cutter. Once I saw it it was quit obvious.
I think this could have easily done some serious damage having exposed life wires. Once replaced the speaker worked fine. From memory Sony never followed up on my complaint.

Having said that, I also bought some Sony WF1000XM4 (refurb or open box) from them not too long ago and did not have any issue other than the battery not lasting really compared to my google ones and the foam of the tips falling apart .

  • this or Bose NC700?

    • Sony. I found Bose 700 to be very comfortable since it clamps too hard.

      • +1

        Uncomfortable you mean?

        • Yes. Sorry made a typo. "Uncomfortable"

  • +3

Last time I purchased a X90k 85” TV, it has dust and insects in the panel. Took 3 weeks to arrive in Perth and it’s been almost a month of back and forth getting Sony to agree to pick it up. Apparently someone is coming on Friday..

    • Going off your comment then Sony refurb products are definitely used and then refurbished. Not new products like some ppl are claiming

      • But these are factory seconds, not refurbished. QC issues with scuff marks or damaged packaging.

        • @Suspect420 The title of this deal says ‘REFURB’ and also description says refurbished. Not sure where your getting factory seconds from?

        • @Suspect420 Also taken from the eBay ad for this product:

“REFURBISHED: This item is manufacturer refurbished. It has been checked by Sony technicians and assessed as in working order”

          • +1

@J B S: Worth a go and looking at all the comments in all the threads for refurb Sony headphones they would be fine.

            Also eBay plus free returns.

Anyway look like sold out whilst you were thinking about it.

            • +2

@G-rig: Received mine today. Brand new apart from a orange sticker over the majority of the crushed and dirty recycled paper box.

Looks like a factory second due to the box.

              Work like a charm.
              Thanks OP

  • Do you think this code will last until black friday so i can use cr/sb with it?

    e: it ends 10/11

  • sold out already?

  • Thanks OP, bought 2 in silver.

  • ooooooooooooooooos

This was well and truely ozbargain’d. geez I hate being so indecisive

  • glad it helped

  • Who pays for the discount? I ask because thinking of selling something and putting the code in the description.

    • ebay tanks the diference i think

  • I’m still dark on myself for selling my XM3’s which had the apt X codec support.

Hard to find something as good, though been reading lately and while there are some reviewers who give the win to the XM5, there are a few saying the Momentum 4 comes close, others are even saying don’t write off the QC45s but the new Momentum 4 kicks butt on audio, also noticed iOS has a noticeable lag with Sony XM5, quite a bit over other brands, but will Apple bring out a non-BT solution to finally take advantage of lossless audio. Apt X HD and LDAC are hard to hear the difference unless you are in a relatively quiet room though TIDAL HiFi is not quite lossless but sounds close. I’ve begun torn about going to AppleMusic but it’s just another expensive subscription I have to find the money for. Some things are harder to justify these days.

I got nerve damage in my right inner ear for no apparent reason and now I’ve lost 80% of everything above 2KHz was absolutely devastating.

Until they can regrow nerves Star Trek style I wonder whether I should bother spending money on really good audio anymore - I’ve spent >$20K on “bargains” from some excellent brands of speakers as well as headphones, now I can only appreciate one ear, to enjoy quality.

Sound, music, 5.1, I still buy CDs as they are uncompressed, I hope they keep making them I have quite the collection - so many people consume streaming average quality but Apple Lossless is ironic that unless you play through an Apple TV connected to an AVR and speakers OR connect a cord TO your mobile device FOR someone who can really appreciate it.

I would have bought a pair of the Sony XM5 seconds after all what’s the point in good headphones when one f**ked up ear and it happened when I was 49, and 2.5 years ago -

ENT told me unless I had gotten onto some steroids immediately and ENT appointments are usually three months or more, ther might have been a chance but the fact there is no reason for it. It like cancer - some people just get it, totally random - losing half your hearing - I prolly shouldn’t compare it with cancer, but it’s still gutted me, I have to live with this for the rest of my life.

I studied and worked as an audio engineer, though mixing bands was all the work I could get early on, and doing that would have ruined my hearing in my 20s so I found other careers in the creative arts.

So hard to listen to my favourite music with headphones and and a DAC and appreciate so much music I grew up with in the 70s, 80s and then it became a bit pop dominated but there have still been great artists around in the 90s, 2000s - even now.

Harder to find stuff to find stuff to my taste these days but audiologist says a $3000 big over the ear hearing aid might help, but the damage is so much to ever appreciate a full stereo mix with big sound stage, even a half decent 5.1/7.1 surround mix isn’t as enjoyable in TrueHD or DTS:X.

So I’m trying every type of headphone, except Apple AirPods Max until they get off BT.

There is not enough bandwidth in Bluetooth to do lossless but why would I care? I still got one good ear but it’s never going to be the same. Maybe if the world doesn’t go to war or burn up from climate change, one day, they might be able to regrow nerves but inserting in your brain is probably not going to happen in my lifetime.

Shame I couldn’t get a par of seconds black XM5s, even with the eBay Sales on I don’t know whether it’s worth it anymore. At least I can enjoy the noise cancellation.

Sorry to hear about your nerve damage mate, sounds like it has been a really rough few years for you adjusting to that, understandably given how passionate you are for audio and music. Take care and wishing you all the best.

    • +2

Agree, sorry to hear about your hearing loss. Would be quite annoying to say the least. Hopefully it's managable but a good reminder to all about not listening to music too loud (I'm sure I would have done so to some extent in my teen years too, before ANC was a thing and in the school marching band etc. I'd say the XM5 are only about 15% better than the XM4 so you're not completely missing out, just have to wait for another deal or check the stock again I guess.

Sounds like you've been watching a few Darko Audio videos, he did a video recently about bluethooth hi-res. I wouldn't even worry about it to be honest, bluetooth is more for convenience and for portable devices, where the listening environment is less than ideal.
Also it's much better streaming over Wi-Fi anyway, if we are talking abougt home listening setups.
However I know the Sony headphones play best with Android devices with the DLAC codec.

From his video and graphical references, LDAC seems to do 990kbps -> LPCM (96kHz/24 Bit) but to be honest I'd consider CD quality to be fine (don't know if apple music can even do that with the Sonys?)

It's nice you still collect physical media, bought hundreds of CDs in the mid 90s-2000s and stil lhave them, all ripped and tagged to FLAC (compressed but as you know it's like a zip file you can unzip to Wave files so is definiitely still Lossless). Interesting that of the best Dynamic Range recordings are blueray releases (Interesting site: Dynamic Range DB.

It's cool not everything is on streaming and some cd releases have different mixes and version not available on streaming. So I think the individual album's recording quality makes far more difference than whether something is hi-res or not.

However I'd have to say streaming is just becoming great, Tidal has now embraced hi-res FLAC and the mobile app finally states the actual bitrate and kHz (not just Max or High etc). Likewise I use volumio to cast to a Rasperry Pi4 and they are working on the coding to match hi-res FLAC. MQA is still there but sounds like they may be phasing it out (good to have the choice at least on some albums, not all yet).

      Cheers,

    • I've also lost about 70% of hearing in my right ear, with permanent tinnitus in that ear. Seems to be pretty common as we age. I know a bunch of people who have lost a lot of hearing in one ear. It could be genetic, too. Nearly everyone in my family has lost hearing in the same ear.

      • Yeah I get some tinnitus, not an issue most of the time or noticeable (unless you are trying to hear it) depending on ambient sound. I find caffeine and alcohol flares it up. Still annoying at times so can appreciate that.

  • Anyone know if this code is single or multi use?
