So can Victorians join Taronga zoo?

Family Membership seems to be less than half that or Zoos Victoria…

    • +4

Yes, anyone can take up a Taronga Zoo (or any other zoo for that matter) Membership, even overseas visitors. The main catch is you don't get the Zoos Victoria side perks that comes from Zoos Victoria membership which are the discounts to the stores, experiences, Village Cinema tickets, Amazing baby Company, Europcar.

Interstate zoo memberships's money also doesn't go to supporting the efforts of your local zoos so if that matters to you, it is something to really think about.

        Thanks…

I'll post the info on the Zoos Victoria Facebook page to let other members know they can save money!!!

        • +5

          Please note,

STEP 4: Head to the Zoo

Make your way to the Zoo Friends office at Taronga Zoo Sydney or the ticketing desk at Taronga Western Plains Dubbo to have your photo taken and collect your membership cards.

*The named Flex Adult pass holder must have their photo taken and have collected their card prior to sharing their pass for other adults to come to the zoo with the children attached to their membership. The physical member card must be presented upon entry to the zoo by the named holder or the adult they have shared the pass with along with the children and their passes.

Would be good to know too…

LOL what the heck is a "joining fee" and why would it be separate from the annual fee? Really, it's a $20 discount for renewing before your current membership expires, to stop people from letting their membership lapse and the joining back whenever it suits them, with no penalty.

    • I thought Qantas Club was the only offender, I guess not LOL.

  • +5

So what is the actual cost of membership?

    • You have to check the site as unlike other zoo memberships, the prices range depend on what package you choose to go with. For example the cost of an adult membership differs between individual package and family package.

      • +5

Am I missing something? There are three prices. You wrote a 700+ word essay on the deal.

As I imagine your hero might say, would it not be possible to list the prices by way of "detailed programmatic specificity"?

  • +5

Submitted a report on this one:

It's a deal but the prices are hidden.

In its most succinct form the prices are:

    $110/adult (kids free); $99/adult; $79/concession

    Or in more detailed form:

$110/adult for an annual family membership (kids are free for this)
$99/adult or $79/concession for an annual individual membership

Update Prices have now been added! 🎉

Does Taronga Zoo restrict how many members they let into the zoo each day, like Sydney Zoo does? Just so they can keep letting walk up customers in.

We cancelled our membership at Sydney zoo because of this.

  • +2

I don't think an interstate person can use this offer to visit our local zoos.

In the T&C's (at the bottom of the page) on reciprocal entry to partner zoos it states:

This benefit is valid for Zoo Friends members with a valid Zoo Friends membership and who normally reside at a NSW address only.

You also need to show your member card for entry, which from what I am reading you can only pick up at Taronga.

  • went to sydney zoo and taronga zoo, sydney zoo hands down is better .. i think taronga zoo needs to up their game

    • Any key reasons?

  • I joined a few months ago and noticed it was $20 less than listed upon checkout, didn't know why, didn't question it.

  • lol bought this without reading. Live in vic, you can get digital cards if u login, but they say theyre only valid if ur pics been taken. Will try this weekend.

Otherwise, who's in Sydney and wants a free trip to the zoo for a photo?

The memberships are cheaper, $99 vs $138 for adult vic, they also have $110 flexible adult pass which vic doesn't have.

  • Would rather give my money to NSW than Victoria but then again you must front up to have your photo taken at Taronga Park Zoo

  • Appreciate you bringing this to my attention. We've got a family holiday in Victoria next April so will make good use of this, in addition to the standard Taronga visits we can now make.

  • For what it's worth. It worked no issues at Healesville. They load up their portal for reciprocal zoo memberships and ask for your membership number. I gave it, and then she asked for my postcode which on the spot I gave my VIC one.

    • Technically it means without a photo then anyone with the membership number and postcode can go in?
