I have one of these and can report they work great.

    • +2

I got one and the swivel/tilt mechanism is acting funny now. Often does not respond

    • Except they take too long to start streaming once you open the app.

      • It's cloud based with free streaming/no subscription required. I'm not expecting instant reactivity.

  • +1

Bought the 2 pack for $75 which is an even marginally better deal I think. Thanks @tms846!

    • +2

It says usually despatched within 1-2 months!?

      • +2

In my order it says October 26th to November 13th delivery.

So not super fast, but I am happy to wait a bit.

    • +7

The C210 is also 2K resolution considered to this one which is FHD: https://amzn.asia/d/60JIGDB

      • -1

wow, i didn't look that deep into this deal

that's massive - c200 looks like a bad deal even if you ignore the lack of AI

i was looking at the c420 series as it's battery powered but unfortunately i just realised that they only implemented x264 video encoding

ridiculous for a battery powered wifi camera in 2023, was leaning towards tapo for a budget option with good software but now having 2nd thoughts, x264 on a battery wifi camera in 2023 is such a fail

        • +1

my understanding is that x265 takes about twice the processing power, so would consume double the battery. Is that right? If so, maybe that is why? (I don't know much about security cameras)

          • +4

@StuBalls: that is true when it comes to software encoding but these cameras along with any decent modern security camera chipset have purpose built hardware encoding

it looks like the chipset on the c420 supports hardware encoding for both 265 and 264

at any rate it's far from ideal for a battery powered wifi camera

            • @desync: thanks for the info - any other recs at this cheaper price point?

    • +2

Does this have the baby cry detection? Or c210?

Googling older ozbargain post, seems like both have it, but go c210 as it doesn't require subscription.

      • +1

I am also after one with baby cry detection and decided to do little more digging on the C210. According to one of the reviews on the C210 amazon listing, baby cry feature is not free.

        • It's free. I have 2 C210s at home. Can confirm Baby crying detection turns on without any drama or subscription popups.

      • +8

I just checked my C200 and C210 and enabled the AI, Baby Crying and Motion Tracking on both without requiring a subscription for either. Was not aware a subscription was no longer required :).

        • +1

Hang on, c200 doesn't need it? That is at odds with desync's comments above.

          • +3

@chillipaste: so i have no personal experience, i just did a quick google on this camera after seeing this deal, first video i watched mentioned it - 2nd last chapter

it's 8 months old so who knows what the current state of play is

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_GnUOaBZSY

maybe there was some backlash from c200 owners that got tp-link to rethink the subscription model on that device

or maybe @Catsfan070911 is paying subscription without realising it :D

          • +5

@chillipaste: Yeah its not needed anymore. I just tested my c200.

          • +5

@chillipaste: Just checked my c200. Enabling baby cry detection didn't require a subscription.

    • +3

thanks bro. was about to hit buy when i see your post. i will hold off until the C210 gets a better deal.

      • +4

looks like subscription requirement has since been disabled by tp-link, no longer a thing

        • Thanks Bro. Adding to my cart again!

  • +5

I have the C210, paid full price for it which is rare for me, but no regrets.

    • +1

        pfft city bargain hunter

        a disgrace to the community

        • +1

          city bargain peasant

      • That is the old OzB. Now it's all about buying "deals" at RRP. I miss the good ol' days.

        • you do have a point

    • I TP link stuff - especially because of the no subs required to remote access and all the free AI stuff
      Have 5 of their cameras!
      2 x C100, 2 x C310 and a C320

C320 I have at the entrance as it comes with a light that turns on based on motion. So bright for such a little light!

    • +6

      Uhhhhhh

    • +4

Lol r u for real you creep???????? u know it's illegal right you gimp?

    • +1

Unless it’s to monitor the externals of the property that is highly illegal, let alone immoral.

    • +1

Make sure you put 2 in the bathroom so you can capture your guests from multiple angles. Or put 2 cameras close together and create some creepy 3D Airbnb content

      • Some people just don't get sarcasm around here.

    • Ignoring the ethics of it, obviously don't put it inside your Airbnb, thats gross.

They do motion tracking though, ie they will attempt to follow any motion.

  • +1

I wish TP-Link didn't do the whole KASA/TAPO thing. I don't get why they made two systems that aren't compatible when they're essentially the same. The KASA stuff has gotten expensive now.

    • +4

Now i can see my KASA stuff in TAPO app with recent update

      • Do you need to pay for the TAPO app?

        • +2

no, i have TAPO camera C210 and few KASA power points, i used to have 2 separate apps but now with TAPO app i can see both

          • @MoJ: hmmm, interesting, maybe i need to migrate to the TAPO app then

          • @MoJ: Oh awesome, thanks, I’m learning all sorts of stuff in this thread about stuff I already own haha

          • @MoJ: is it any good?

            • @derdew: If you are asking about the app, yes it is very good… it just works no issues in the last 1.5 - 2 years, even my camera tapo C210 is good
              i will recommend Tp-link products

  • +8

These things are built like a tank. We have one that's living permanently in our chicken coop and the damn thing has been dropped in dirt, drenched in water, covered in a pine shaving / water combination and apart from needing the base cleaned and greased, it performs like it did on day one. Can highly recommend these for outdoor applications.

    • my baby/toddler/now-young-kid has caused his to fall off its perch at least 10x times now
      2 m fall, each time

      Still working fine!

    • what about sunlight?

  • Is this camera similar to xiaomi c300?

  • +2

CHEAP CAMERA WITH ONVIF AND CLOUD CAN BE CUT

BUT IF YOU NEED ETHERNET GET THE REOLINK E1 PRO

    • +11

      WHY ARE YOU YELLING

      • +1

        AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

  • Looks like a good deal. Need on reviews, the batteries seem to last for 1 month after a charge.

Anyone know on how this compares to the one for $57: https://amzn.asia/d/fod5eDT
Cant tell the difference except the 3mp camera

    • +1

      They don't use batteries?

      • Also trying to figure this out. Listing says lithium ion battery required - I’m assuming for battery operation but that it’s not included - so needs to be mains powered ?

  • +2

Cashrewards has 16% off on home improvement category.

    • Edit: found it: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12542734/redir
Tldr: use desktop browser and look at category on top left

How do you find the category of a product?

The listing mentioned Camera and Photos which I thought would be under eletronics or something similar

      • +1

I used 3camels for it. It check it for price history anyway. So the category is a bonus.

  • Should I buy TP-Link camera/networking equipment given that it’s a mainland Chinese company in which the CCP shareholdings?

    • +2

Let us know of the alternative.

      • +1

Not sure - hence the question.

My mate, who works in IT Security said not to trust TP-Link and look at Asus or cameras that support HomeKit but I’m not sure

        • this cam should work with homekit right?

        • I agree with your mate. An on-Prem solution with upload to your own cloud space is the best. The blocker for me is the abysmal upload speeds that exist in Australia. If anything, I need twice the upload speed.

  • +1

Is Tapo C210 worth the extra $17?
    What is the difference?

    • +2

Video resolution is better on C210. Not sure if Human AI detection is free on C200 but it's free on C210. Baby crying detection + motion tracking was made free on C200 as per above comments. Wasn't free earlier.

      • +1

AI Detection also free on C200

  • I have a couple of C200's that I use as a puppy cam for when i'm out, does the job well. App is a bit slow and not perfect, but for the money you cannot complain.

  • +1

Does anyone know.. can i connect this to my Blueiris system and use the 2 way audio? or am i forced to use the specialty app?

    • Also want to know if it can be used with Blue Iris

    • Synology's system doesn't support Audio Output for this camera, I'm assuming that would be the same for other 3rd party systems.

  • +2

Main consideration for me would be that I believe you can put a higher capacity SD card in the C210 than the C200 (max 128gb for C200, max 256gb for C210).

    • Noob question do you have to purchase memory card with this ?

      • +1

Not necessary, this has live recording so you are able to watch the live stream without an SD card

    • Wait, I have a 400GB card in my C210. Maybe it's formatted into one 256GB partition?

      • Okay maybe I am about to learn something about these cameras again, just going off what the packaging says, haven't tested higher capacity cards in them before to check

        • +1

I can't find my box, but the website says:

          TC60, TC65, TC70, Tapo C100, Tapo C110, Tapo C200, Tapo C210, Tapo C310 05-08-2021 289,137
          Capacity:

Tapo Cameras support MicroSD cards from 8 – 512GB.

Kasa Cameras support MicroSD cards from 8 – 256GB.

          microSDHC (8 GB - 32 GB)

          microSDXC (64 GB – 512GB)

The Tapo app says I have a C210_C380. Looks like we can put some nice fat cards in these!

          • +1

@Loopholio: Awesome, thanks for sending that through :), Was already happy with my cameras (C200 and C210) and so much more happy after discovering several things in this post today :)

  • can someone please explain to me the privacy/security of these things, pretty please? Can a hacker hack into this, activate and get live/recorded video? Explain it to me like I'm a 10year old. Be warned, I might do a Michael Scott depending on your answer

    • ok explain to me like I'm 5

    • +2

With cloud-connected cameras like this, always assume that someone can hack and view your feed. So use and position the camera accordingly.

    • +1

Yes, it's like the ring when you wear it. Sauron - I see you.

    • A hacker merely takes advantage of open windows.
Open windows being either you picking a poor password in one or more systems
or TPLink leaving open windows in their cloud systems to which this camera connects to.

If you're more tech saavy you can probably shut down the internet connectedness of these cameras and rely on a VPN server at home to reach them through your own network.

At the end of the day, there are probably open windows in all the devices on your network that you own. It's a race for hackers to find the open windows.

    • i wouldnt use one inside my house but i think its fine for outside

  • Wondering how reliable this is, but hey for $39 I'll order one and see how it goes. (Will use with ONVIF)

    • +3

      rock solid
been using 3 for the past 4 years for baby/toddler cam at home.

Used exclusively with Onvif app on android.
sure sometimes they need a reboot, but thats probably once in .. 6months and even then i think it's my wifi being stupid not the camera.

      • I installed the Tapo camera integration for Home Assistant. Works nicely. Good value for $39. I'm regretting not just ordering a few more, although I probably want an outdoor capable camera.

  • Anyone put these in an alfresco area or under the eaves away from direct sun and rain

    • +1

I put it outside under the eaves, no direct sunlight/rain, More than 1 year now, no issue at all.

      • Brilliant cheers thanks!

  • Any Google home alternatives instead of Alexa on this?

  • Homekit compatible?

    • Ctrl+F is your friend…

      works via Homebridge

      • Thanks!

  • Might be a bit of a better deal if you want the newer model with 3MP sensor. JB will price match the $56 Amazon prime day price online; with ultimate gift cards at a 15% discount that puts the C210 at a price of ~56*0.85 = $48. So, for $9 more than this deal you get the newer model with better sensor!

Only downside is no free delivery, you'd have to pick up. But it's good for me. You could probably do the same at officeworks and get free delivery but ordering over the phone with them is a pain.
