Recording to sd card on the device that can easily be stolen doesn't sound like a great idea.

    • +8

      I prefer that over subscriptions

    • I heard you can program audible alarms on these, like high pitch scream or 'f off' when someone touches the cameras whilst in operating mode.

      • +4

It's got an anti-theft protection setting that essentially bricks the device if removed without the setting turned off. If put back, everything goes right back to normal. And this version has the SD card behind a screw so unless someone has a lot of time and can be bothered going through that effort of taking only the SD card, you're pretty much safe.

        • But peace of mind for thefts, your lost and they are safe with the sd card at least :)

          • @boomramada: They don't know whether you have off site video subscription or not.

            • @Igaf: They do know otherwise home owners would go for Google or Ring lol

              • @boomramada: Makes no sense whatsoever. TP-Link has a subscription service and thieves wouldn't give a fig what version of video doorbell you have. It's a simple task to cover your face.

              • @boomramada: They'd really only know if you were using Eufy. I didn't get Google, Ring or any other brand because most of my stuff at this point is TP-Link so I just chose to get a TP-Link doorbell. It just really depends on people's preferences and needs.

    • true, but you can basically kill these by removing any of these with easily replacable batterys. regardless, before the "stealing" takes place, you will have footage of it on your phone if it captures and stores it on the cloud.

  • Just purchased the reolink battery version, this is half the price. Any significant difference?

    • +1

I honestly have no clue and have been eyeing this model because my system is basically TP-Link at this point, though I did take a look at some reviews and will list what I have seen is different.

      Tapo:
      Longer battery life.
      Wider viewing angle.
Calls your phone instead of just a notification.
      Supports 512GB SD card.

      Reolink:
      Better detection.
      Larger vertical viewing angle.
      2.4Ghz/5Ghz bandwidth.
      Supports 256GB SD card.

      • I think reolink calls via the app as well.
Longer battery life is good though
I also have a few tp link products but thought this door bell was a bit too big on my wall.
But again half the price, bargain!

    • I have TP-Link Tapo D230, not the D210. Have had it for 12+ months now. Mine records to SD card in the base which is inside the house, I think that's different that the D210. My only gripe would be it can sometimes be slow to call my phone when someone rings in, by the time I answer they are gone.

      • The delay is the most annoying thing about these wifi bells

  • Does this require separate ringer?

    • +1

      Comes with one.

  • Does anyone know if notications work with Google Home? I know cameras work now, just unsure about the notifications

    • I have a TP-Link Tapo D230, not sure exact differences but this particular one works with Google Home. I have it alert when it identifies a person and/or someone rings it, can also ask Google to show the feed on the screen.

  • I nearly bought this before I realised that theres no way to hardwire it. The tapo app is pretty good and the c310 cameras I have are easy to set up but I decided to hardwire them all to an NVR on an old PC running blue iris as a back up. That way if they get pinched I still have the footage. I'm probably going to stick with TAPO but go with the next model up instead.

  • I got the Tapo D130 for about ~$114 delivered from Amazon US. Basically the next model up (Tapo D235) minus the battery. Recently updated to support storing video clips with Tapo H200/H500.

    Tapo Comparison (I believe the TD25 = D235)

  • anyone know if this or a device like this will work with a 20m or so range (gate to house)? id love a wireless chime doorbell like this but worried about the distance

    • It'd really depend on the Wi-Fi signal and it's interference, since this one only really uses 2.4GHz, you get the distance but interference would be an issue. If you find one with 2.4GHz AND 5GHz then it's probably cover both bases since 5GHz doesn't have the distance but won't have issues with interference.

  • It's a poor design for anti theft. I can take this off with a little jiggling and light force after mounting on the bracket.

    • It has shut down and can record images remotely. Apart from the alarm on better models like the D230S1 I have what other ways are there to protect a battery-operated doorbell? You could easily add a bracket to make it more difficult to remove if you're paranoid. If you live in a problematic area buy a better device.
