Xiaomi Redmi 12 8GB/256GB $325, Google Pixel 2 XL $165, Haylou X1 2023 TWS Earbuds $29 Delivered @ Mobileciti

Cheapest 256GB phone currently available, much cheaper than the Nokia. This model gets Android 15 and 4 years security updates, unlike Xiaomi's usual bare minimum support. Other highlights include the large 6.79" 90Hz FHD+ screen and good battery life. I was not expecting Xiaomi to sell here ever again. RRP$399 so could be a real sale unlike Mobileciti's $1 off RRP "sales" the site is filled with. Redmi does not need a code and has no specified end date for the sale.

Always good to see Xiaomi release their Redmi budget performance phones.
Specs better than most at this price point, decent support, only negative IMO is the mediatek chipset.

Redmi is a great phone. I've had mine for 6 years and it's still my daily driver but looking to upgrade soon.

  • Google Pixel 2 XL (6.0", 12.2MP) can be bought from Catch for $159.78. Interestingly, it will be supplied by mobilecity.

      Pixel 4 is $200

Do you have a link for that Pixel 4?

        • it was at jbhifi for that new. maybe gone now.

    • Anyone know if the unlimited cloud photo storage would be offered with the 2 or 4 models? Keep reading different things about it for models under pixel 5

There is a Free Soundcore Life P2 True Wireless Earbuds with code: FREEBIE for a purchase of $300 and above.

  • certainly an inspired camera arrangement

  • Xiaomi Redmi 12 Chipset: Mediatek Helio G88 (12nm)

  • how does Pixel 2XL even hold up in 2023-2024? Expecting it to lag like hell.

    • SD 835 is very capable still

      • hmm interesting, do you still have one around? Does the RAM + SD835 combo handle above average apps well enough?

        • well depends what you mean by above average apps. i am not a mobile gamer so cant give you any insights into that but as an example, the Maccas Moonopoly app is quite taxing on phone hardware. My galaxy s7 would struggle and lag but my pixel 2 it still runs fine.

in terms of ram I think android does a good job of managing RAM usage so I dont see alot of difference between 4gb ram and 8GB ram unless you are multiapping like crazy..

          • @Jaduqimon: I've read on online sources about Instagram app & Gboard issues/lag.

It's pretty hard to find a NFC enabled phone for under $200. Plus the display and camera on this device make it sweet deal!

I'm thinking about getting a cheap Pixel to park one of my mobile numbers on it

  • Thanks, got a pixel 2xl

  • interested in the pixel 2 XL as a burner phone. wonder what the battery health is like though.

    • Says it's brand new in box…

      • A battery will degrade even if it’s unused.

        • I bought one from them 2 years ago, and even back then the battery was completely flat and cycled 3 times before taking charge, alternating display of the following image and the usual charging animation.

          • @TekniqAU: Oof. That’s not good. Glad I haven't bought it.

Xiaomi pricing are no longer competitive

  • Bought a Pixel 2XL from 'Allphones eBay' 2 years ago, and it lasted me approx. 9 months, before I found out their warranty is not worth the paper it's printed on.

Otherwise it was a good phone for general use, that I would have continued to use.

    • Really? I had a Nexus 5 that they replaced instantly after 23 months.

      • It developed an issue charging and would boot loop if connected to a fast-charger, apparently quite a common issue according to a quick Google search.

The repair shop held it for a while, then claimed nothing was wrong with it and sent it back with a new charger, but it still had the same issue with the new charger included.

I just ended up selling it for parts rather than spend another ~$20 to send it back, not wanting to deal with a run around.

It also did NOT have an official Google warranty as stated by the rep on ozbargain, and was handled by 'Sydney Mobile Phone Repairs'.
