Back with another Niimbot label printer deal and this one is designed for printing labels 20-50mm wide, while the popular Niimbot D110 can only print labels 12-15mm wide. Another advantage of the B1 Mini is that it supports Windows in addition to Android/iOS. Making it a good affordable alternative to Dymo.

While the printer on it's own without labels is available for US$22.17 (~A$34.63), if you choose "Color: B1 3rolls 4030" you can get 3 label rolls for only a few dollars extra. Plus there's other bundles available too.

Like the D110 the app has plenty of settings including QR codes, barcodes, images, text, batch printing, Excel spreadsheets and more. The printer printers thermal laminated labels, has 203dpi resolution, USB-C charging, Bluetooth connectivity and a 1500mAh battery.

There's heaps of different labels available on AliExpress including different shapes, colours, transparent and even the cable labels that I've been using with the D110.

  • Does anyone have this and care to comment? Amazon reviews seem to indicate:

    • App requires cloud account and label storage on Chinese server
    • IAP is required for some designs
    • +3

A printer made in China by a Chinese company sold and shipped from China has an app that stores data in China. Who knew!

On a more serious note the app does not require an account to use. If you want to save your label designs as a template you do need to create an account.

They do have a few custom made emojis that you can pay for, but it's not necessary. My Android phone's keyboard has emojis built in so there's no need to purchase anything. Furthermore I can add pictures, QR codes, Excel spreadsheet data and more for free.

      • 🤣

Thanks for that, does look impressive. Bought one!

    • The printer itself is fine but they use RFID tags for DRM on their rolls and cripple the output for 3rd party labels.

You can see the difference between two prints I posted here, same label just one while tricking machine to think was genuine, one not.

So as long as your happy to always use Niimbot labels or make your own RFID tags/trick with a genuine one first before printing then machine is pretty good for the price.

      • Interesting!! Thanks for this, will have to investigate how to hack the rolls!

      • Interesting - was not aware of this! Where is the RFID tag?

        • Just stuck to the roll, you can see it on the inside of the plastic hub.

  • I bought one i was looking for a good label maker.

I am hoping this is good quality!

I've been impressed with the quality of the smaller ones so I'm sure this one is just as good.

      • thanks man, appreciate the post.

        • Ditto I have the 110's and they are really good. Gonna get one of these too.

I love labelling everything, it puts a sense or order in my life

  • I have one, have had it for about 6 months. I don't use it much but it's great when I do. App is ok once you get your head around it. No need for an account but it makes it easier as you can save templates etc
Edit: i paid double with 4x rolls of labels… Ouch

  • i'm assuming these can't be used to print shipping labels for ebay?

  • What type of materials are the labels made out of? Are they paper? Or are they plastic similar to Dymo D1/Brother TZe tapes?

    • Plastic like Dymo/brother.

    • The labels are some mix of plastic, but direct thermal prints don't last as long as thermal transfer ones like TZe

I've had this for over a year, very happy with it. There is IAP for some fonts etc but I've not needed any - the default stuff is fine for what I need

  • Not getting the discount… could this have expired?

    • +1

      Yep seems so

  • Just played around with this, prints instantaneously! Even faster than a dymo labeller.

Is there a hack to use non gen labels?

    • +1

Yeah Dymo is a dinosaur now.

@Leho has done some work on generic labels and the NFC tags required.

      • Yep, currently need a proxmark or flipper, but currently in the process of finding cheaper ways :)

        • +1

Hmm… Is it possible to carefully remove the RFID tag and permanently stick it to the inside of the printer so it is always "loaded" with genuine labels?

          • @highon2str: Yes, but the nfc tag holds the dimensions, if all the non genuine stuff you use are the same size as the genuine tag you are using then definitely 👍

            • +1

@Leho: Riiiiiiiiiiiiight! That makes sense… Thanks for your work, will check it out and give it a go. Never used github before, is it a straightforward process?

              • @highon2str: Yeah, the proxmark3 is the easiest way to emulate it (I haven’t gotten writing figured out, just emulation for now). Instructions are on the main GitHub page, you just need the .bin

Proxmarks are about $60aud for a clone from aliexpress (buy one with iceman fw on it, or one that support it)

                • @Leho: Also ordering some magic 21x’s, they should work and will bring the price down to like $5. No equipment needed hopefully

          • @highon2str: You can also hold the genuine roll underneath the B1 when closing the cover. Once it's had a valid read, it doesn't check again until you repeat the process.

If your third party labels don't match the size of your genuine roll, you can still change the template to a matching size in the app. It will just pester you when you go to print that the size doesn't match (and make sure not to tick the checkbox to automatically switch to the correct label) but you can continue and the print quality wont be crippled.

However after each print it is writing some data back to RFID tag, which I can only assume is keeping track of how many labels printed. Time will tell if the rolls are still usable to trick the machine once they have been used up I guess.
