"we have steam deck at home"

  • I'm getting code is unavailable in this country

    • +2

      Move to a supported country?

  • just wondering, what packages or software should i be using if I just want to add the emulator library capability onto my current android phone?

i know i can get them one by one but i would like to know if there is a package somewhere (not asking for roms btw) that i can download and setup immediately with support for emulators for multiple consoles (would be great if the emulators themselves are included and pre-configured)

    • You're looking for a "Romset"

      • oh, no like i said above, im not looking for the romset… i actually already have that from the same forum community for GarlicOS which is used for Anbernic…

however, im looking for something similar like GarlicOS menu but without having to flash a custom rom on my day to day android phone.

      • ahhh thanks! Retrox seems a good frontend to start with… i never tried Retropie before (never had raspberrypi) so didn't know there is an android version of them…

        thanks!

EDIT: hmmm just realised, Retrox is not free to use after 5 days… Trying RetroArch now…

        • +2

RetroArch is what you want, it will be a bit of fiddling though and you might want to combine it with a front end like Daijishō, you might be best looking up guides for android based handhelds like the Retroid Pocket and you can probably apply that to a phone.

          • @wycs: Yup Retroarch sent me to the right path and got Lemuroid which is based on Retroarch!

Sitting at a desktop PC or even a laptop is obnoxious compared to a handheld smaller than a gameboy that you can play anywhere.

        • +12

Touchscreen buttons are very meh imo

          • @Axelstrife: Get a controllers but these types of form factor aren't great ergonomically.

          • @Axelstrife: I agree. I bought a gamesir X2 pro in hopes it would be good but the dpad uses super clicky microswitches, not my jam. I wish someone would release something similar but with a capacitive dpad 💩

        • +5

Your whole argument is silly. This is dedicated to emulation and presumbaly good with what it does and the phone isnt designed with inbuilt controllers, for one.

        • +5

Retro games are terrible without a pad. So if you carry a pad you still end up carrying two devices.

          • +2

@Dream-cast: And if you are using a pad with a phone you are killing your phone battery. When I am on the train or plane I like using a handheld gaming device so I don't run my phone flat.

        • +2

The other thing no one has touched on here, is that 4:3 content looks pretty awful on a 21:9 phone display.

Nothing beats a PC for portability and pocketability.

      • Especially PC handhelds

        • +1

Yep, i still use my Sony Vaio UX daily!

      • +1

I love my GPDWin Max 2..

    • +4

Recently went to melbourne via ballarat on the train

Used a RG35xx to play Diablo 1 (psx) for 1 1/2 hours there and back..

Cant exactly bring the pc on the train

      • +4

Sure you can, you just didn't try hard enough.

      • +3

        What ails you my friend?

    • +6

I played final fantasy vii on this console on a 16 hour round road trip. I'm tellin ya right now, a phone doesn't come close. I wouldn't even consider it as a substitute.

      • It says only six hour battery life not sixteen

        • +2

It was a round trip so 8 hours each way. I think I got through with a single charge each way (occasional break).

I had a power bank - it takes USB-C so I could have played for 40 hours straight if I had to.

    • +1

Can't use my PC on a plane though…

    • +2

Clearly you aren't bothered about wasting time though, with comments like this.

    • Perhaps next time you’ll think before you post your views.

  • Does the base RG353V 16G come with an SD card?

    • My understanding is RG353V has a build in 32GB ROM, the 16G is the size of TF card. Hopefully, I'm not wrong.

    • +2

the SD card it comes with is junk. you don't want to lose all your games and saves on that thing. use it as a temporary SD card transfer drive or toss it.

    • +2

You can get 64gb ones Samsung for 10 dollars

  • +2

Great unit, I bought one when they were first released.

    Portable, and very nastalgic

  • MON-SUN 7 DAYDS A WEEK

  • +4

I would fork out the extra $30 for a Retroid Pocket 2S for a much better experience overall.

    • Powkitty.

    • Waiting for next gen , love my 351mp but hopefully we’re not too far away from stable ps2 emulation in next few years. I just want portable Godhand smh

  • 3.5 inch… Seems small for my 40 year old eyes….?

  • -2

Just buy a PlayStation vita and put custom firmware on it

  • I have another Anberbic with a 3.5 screen and it's just too small for a lot of games. If you are considering one of these as your first retro emulator purchase bear in mind that these form factors are not great for vertical games or games with a lot going on likes shoot em ups. I'd go with a retroid 3s, the powkiddy x55 or a larger screen ambernic in and around this price range.

    • ANBERNIC RG405M is 4" screen and currently have good price with promotion.

  • how does this compares to Miyoo handled?

  • I was playing Gradius on an anbernic device on silent, all the button mashing psycho neighbor called me a (profanity) (yelling) and dinged my car in.

    • Maybe next time don't scream and yell at the game playing in your car with the windows down.
