S23U trade in offer from Samsung wins?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/798495

    • +18

But if you're after a Pixel, the S23U offer is irrelevant.

    • +3

But then youre stuck with Samsung.. I guess it just depends what flavour of android people prefer. I'm currently using an S22+ with a bit under a year left on the contract and can't wait to get rid of it, mainly because of the double ups in apps from Samsung/google. (Photos/store/etc)

      • +10

and can't wait to get rid of it, mainly because of the double ups in apps from Samsung/google.

Surely it's not that hard to ignore an icon?

        • Photos syncing between the Samsung camera app and Google photos isn't ideal. The whole thing just feels like two competing software suites shoved into a single phone. Also, notifs from the Samsung store seem to persist randomly even after disabling notifs. Its just janky considering you're paying for a flagship phone

          • +3

            @DeToxin:

Photos syncing between the Samsung camera app and Google photos isn't ideal.

            Hmm, how so?

            • @eug: The built in camera app only automatically backs up your photos to OneDrive.
I use Google photos so have the Google photos app installed as well to backup photos I take.
Beyond automatically backing up photos taken on the camera, there's a bunch of options around folders to back up.
Anyway, there's just a bunch of things that from time to time come up during use which feel stupid and clunky. Maybe there's a way to delete those apps without having root access but it just feels like hoop jumping when we should be able to install/uninstall whatever we want.
Also I'm not sure if I'm mis-remebering how responsive google assistant was on my old pixel, but it feels more hit-or-miss when it comes to responding to Hey google.

              • +3

                @DeToxin:

The built in camera app only automatically backs up your photos to OneDrive.

I've been using the built-in camera app for years with Google Photos on Samsung phones. The camera app just saves the photo to the camera folder. Google Photos sees new photos in the camera folder and backs it up. I haven't even opened the Gallery app on my current phone and I don't back up anything to OneDrive.

                • @eug: That's my point exactly.
Edit: for clarity: why can't I just uninstall it if I don't use it?

                  • @DeToxin:

                    That's my point exactly.

What do you mean? That's how Pixel phones do it too. The camera app on my Pixel takes the photo and saves it. Google Photos then sees it and backs it up.

Edit: for clarity: why can't I just uninstall it if I don't use it?

That's just how it was designed. It's not uncommon; if you have an iPhone and find Apple Maps useless, you cannot uninstall it either*.

Surely it can't be that difficult to just ignore an icon. You can just move them all into a folder if you can't ignore them.

*looks like Apple now lets you delete it in iOS 14 and above

          • @DeToxin: and Facebook pixel code is baked into Samsung phone software build with no way to disable that other than rooting.

      • +11

Lol what a weird reason to hate on a phone - just hide them from the app drawer and set the default to the one you want to use.

      • +10

Delete unwanted apps with Universal Android Debloater: https://github.com/0x192/universal-android-debloater

        • Might check this out. If you've used it with a Samsung phone I'd be interested to know if any/many apps were reinstalled during ota updates

        • Does it remove Bixby?

      • +2

I bought a pixel 6 pro because I love vanilla android.

Had to return it because it was using an old Samsung Exynos modem which dropped out all the time.

Samsung modem much better. Is this better with the 87?

BANK OF MUM AND DAD here: get off this site.

        • +1

Who are you? I'm an adult and pay for my own things thanks. Maybe zip it next time you think you're being smart

          • -5

@DeToxin: Really, your an adult : student beans and unidays.

            • +1

              @Travelbug: Yes, really.
              Also, *you're

              • -3

                @DeToxin: ………You're only two badges

                • @Travelbug: I don't even know what badges are awarded for on ozB and couldn't care less. But a quick look at your profile shows all you seem to do here is leave stupid comments so I won't be replying anymore 👋

                • +1

@Travelbug: Wow! 7 Silver badges, 2 Bronze badges!!! Impressive stuff! /s

    • I can't get the targeted offer.

      • Same here. Thinking about getting this one if I can't obtain a spare trade in code.

    • -1

100%. I prefer OneUI over stock Android, it’s way too vanilla.

    • +2

Good luck getting that Samsung code though

    • +1

Personally I prefer the Pixel for the custom ROM support but the S23u is great if you're not interested in stock android/roms.

    • One word Samsung sux. Poor after sales service, bloatware, poor value for money

S7 edge was the last straw for me.

      • I absolutely loved the s7edge. That was a great phone

    • +4

Been using one since launch, and although the specs on paper might make it seem that it's way down the benchmark list but day to day stuff is just snappy and fine.

But saying that there are areas where the Pixels tensor does seem to struggle, editing the videos on my phone even like trimming them or applying filters takes way too long for a flagship Google device and battery life isn't the best.

      • agree re battery life, but I have never needed to edit a video on my phone, so I have no real issues and like (and use quite often) the pixel features of hold for me, live captioning and spam caller notifications

        • +1

The one feature I absolute like is the lock screen song info, I can't emphasise how many times that has come in handy!

    • +4

daily PSA slower than $200 iPhone

You're giving yourself a bit of a reputation here. People aren't going to take what you say seriously if you keep it up.

    • What's the real world impact?

      • -2

        about 300 geekbench points

        • How does a point correlate with real world impact?

How many users run Geekbench on a daily basis?

          • -3

@ihfree: I was lazy since geekbemch is widely used already, but for the paranoid there are others

            https://www.notebookcheck.net/index.php?id=127065&specs%5B%5…

I recommend octane, Mozilla kraken and jetstream to get an indication for web browsing and responsiveness

don’t let the monkeys trying to sell phones fool you the iPhone crunches numbers fast = better user experience

            • @abctoz: I’m guessing the phone loses at Nintendo switch emulation? What a crappy processor if it can’t do that.lol

              • @Ronnnie: I would guess it is more due to the locked-down nature of the iPhone rather than the CPU.

                • @ihfree: Yes the iPhone can run the main 5 apps that everyone cares to use as well as a $200 Android phone. But lacking in applications that could utilise more powerful processors. Because Apple won’t allow it.

It’ll be great when Apple are forced to allow sideloading and then developers will start offering apps that can utilise the power of the processor.

              • @Ronnnie: If you want to play games of course a bigger screen is better, but i use my phone to argue with ppl on the internet so web performance is paramount

        • A benchmark biased towards Apple :)

    • Which phones wins for emulating Nintendo Switch games?

FWIW I actually been emulating switch games on my Android phone. It’s pretty awesome really but feel kinda a bit wrong in a way playing games that would cost $60 on a switch for free on an Android phone.

  • +1

Mate you are quick! Just got the email for the offer on Google store 3 minutes ago. Great price for anyone that is after the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

  • Pixel 7a - $574.10 with the same codes.

    Looks to be cheapest ever

    • +9

I would rather go for the 7 at $599 than 7a

  • For the majority of people who just want a good mobile phone this is a great deal.

  • +1

the feel when the 7 Pro becomes cheaper than you got your 6 Pro for

    • +1

Then I better not tell you that I got the Pixel 7 Pro 128GB for $678 brand new on release… oh shit woops. <3

  • +1

Good buy, though this late in the sales cycle you wouldn't really want to be paying any more than this for a pixel 7/7 Pro.

    • That's true, do they discount even more when pixel 8 releases early Oct?

      • The price probably won't move much further than this from the Google Store.

      • +1

I looked over pixel 6 pro deal history and it didn't seem to drop past this price point until February the following year.

  • +2

Google local guides 15% discount code increases the price lol. It removes the discount and works only on the full price.

    • You can use that when they launches pixel 8.

      • Expires September 30th

  • Do you still get 10% back if your payment profile is set to Turkey? i.e. I'm paying the TRY price

    • Got my own answer - the 10% perk is only included in the AU subs

      • The 10% off is only for the account that subscribes to the plan - if you've shared it with your family and are using another account you won't get the discount. Make sure you're using the account that signed up to Google One.

    • Yes I got it

      • did you get the AUD amount in store credits? and your Youtube/Google One subs is paid in TRY right?

        • +2

          Yeah AUD, yes to TRY

  • +1

    I don't understand how you got $769. Isn't it $899 with 10% off $802? $769 would be 15% off. I am obviously missing a step.

    • +1

      10% off RRP.

      • +2

Many thanks. The 4 brain cells I have were not all firing.

  • Anyone used this phone with auto-answering feature, if so, how is it?

    • I've used the hold feature on pixel experience. Works really well

  • Is this a good time to get a Pixel? I need to buy one for a family member I'm meeting in December. Not sure what's the best time to buy

    • Here's to feeling good all the time!

    • +4

By November or December the Pixel 8/8 Pro would start to get discounted.

There were plenty of Pixel 7/7 Pro sales early on:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736313
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737527
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/745627

Probably best to buy it during that time. The price stays pretty flat for a long time afterwards so people buying a Pixel 6-9 months down the track aren't really getting much better deals.

Either buy the Pixel 7 Pro for kinda cheap (but that's about what its worth) now, or wait and buy the Pixel 8 Pro for a bit more on sale in Nov/Dec.

  • The google store is amazing they somehow allow for multiple offers to get stacked, I managed to get the $300 credit, a 10% bonus credit "sign up for Google one $12.99 plan" and added the 10% unidays store voucher when I pre ordered last year, all up I only paid $~769 for the phone considering the ~$420 credit.

    • What is the 10% bonus credit "sign up for Google one $12.99 plan"

      • Sorry shouldve mentioned Google One, its their cloud storage platform, if you sign up for the 2TB cloud plan, which is $12.49 one of the benefits is 10% back in extra google store credit.
Heres the link and the different benefits: https://one.google.com/about/plans

    • What credit?

  • Pixel 7 white is gone…

    • Only Obsidian was available at the time of the deal post (which is mentioned in the title)

  • No 256gb?

    • Currently out of stock, waiting list.

    • Officeworks have the 256gb in some stores. But you're better off getting the 512gb from Google because the price ends up being similar.

  • +4

If you're chasing all time lows and have something to trade in, JB Hifi currently have a $300 trade in bonus for the Pixel 7 / 7 Pro

    • This deal trumps, great find.

    • So JB Price match: $769.10
eg. Galaxy S4 trade in: $0
      Trade in Bonus: $300

      Pixel 7 Pro 128 GB: $469.10 ???

      Is this correct?

      • eg. Galaxy S4 trade in: $0
$0 value not able to get $300

But do you got the price match?

  • +1

If you really care about privacy, these are great phones just install grapheneOS.

    • No need for different launchers or ROMs for pixels, vanilla android OS is the main point of it.

What sites you going to, do you have Facebook?
      Worth setting up dns.adguard.com.

  • Shame the price hikes up so much just for a bit more storage.

  • -1

I was tempted to get this phone, but turns out it doesn't even support micro SD cards. Such basic functionality that much cheaper phones support.

    • +1

Lol not many flagship phones do, it doesn't suit their product tiers. Most stuff is cloud based and streaming these days so I personally have never come close to filling up a 128gb. Guess you want to copy 30,000 songs on?

Just get an oppo or something if you want that.

  • Do you have to be a student to get this deal?
