Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max $44.10 ($41.65 eBay Plus) + $5 Delivery ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys eBay

1290
SEPT10SEPT15

Cheaper than the Amazon $47. Best for if you have a store nearby. Thanks to @doweyy for mentioning. Had to post as the price with Plus is very close to the all time low (technically) when the 2 pack was on sale.

Excludes: QLD Far North, WA Remote

    There's one in every group.

With delivery, I would opt for the Amazon at $47.

    • +1

+1 because Amazon would provide better returns, warranty and support.

    • amazon wouldn't price match?

      • Amazon won't price match to individual customers.

        • They actually can price match, if you can give them their order number so they can confirm it. Seen it done before.

          • @I Smell Pennies: It's extremely hard and unlikely, I've had them price match once and it was after purchase, before delivery, having paid with gift card so no no explicit ability to refund.

It still took convincing, I wouldn't consider it a genuine price match.

    • Just noticed without a prime login Amazon reports no stock. However after log in it was $47 delivered.

  • Is this better than the 4k Chromecast?

    • I have one in the living room and the other in the bedroom.. Technicality aside, I like the UI of Chromecast better but performance is pretty much the same to the naked eye I would say. Just make sure the apps you intend to use are available on the app store.

    • User preference, I prefer the Remote on the Firestick, dedicated buttons for Prime, Netflix and Disney.
Sure Chromecast has the YouTube icon, but I use SmartTubeNext.

  • Anyone know of good ways, or sites, to be able lock down these devices with greater freedom than the settings that come as part of the Amazon OS?

Looking to see how it can be heavily restricted for kids?

  • -2

how will this improve my samsung TV?

    • You can sideload Android TV apps on a Firestick when the Amazon store offers no support. Samsung's app ecosystem is decidedly more narrow.

But if you don't have an immediate use for that, wait for something that can support 120 Hz output and either 8K120 video or 4K120 video.

Great for Stremio + Real Debrid.

    • +2

Oh, and for those who have NFI what that meant: https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/yi5jdw/ultim…

Thanks long-time Plex\Overseer\NZBPlus\Radarr\Sonarr user, had never heard of this before your comment.
Have only been using Stremio for a few days since your post, friggin hell it's fast an excellent interface. So easy to use, just bloody works. A few seconds of delay after the initial play, but no problem streaming 4K high bit rate content, across all devices.

Still blown away by how simple\easy it is.

        • Welcome aboard, I’m glad you’re enjoying it :)

  • I bought this Firestick from Primeday sale. Is it terribly slow in downloading apps onto the stick? or is it just me???

    • +4

      Just you

      • I bought 2 and both of them are exactly the same.

        • What have you done to diagnose the problem?

Used a speed test app to check your wifi speed? Checked other wifi devices at the same location have the same speed?

It's hard for people to help you, if you don't give any information.

          • @PainToad: Speed test was the first thing I test and it's around 100mbps. But the installation took forever after its downloaded.

            • @he88388: A speed test on the actual FireTV?

What’s forever? How big is the app being installed?

        • Probably wasn't the Maxx, the standard is a little slow.

Worth paying a bit more for Google 4K thing on sale imo. And worth paying a lot more for Apple TV 4K.

  • +6

The 4K Max is very fast and responsive.

Be aware that two new Amazon streaming devices have recently passed FCC and are expected to be revealed as part of Amazon's hardware announcement on 20th September.

    • +2

So the FCC won't let me be
Or let me be me so let me see
They try to shut me down on MTV
But it feels so empty without me

    • Agree, although I like the Cube (I don't use it as a speaker, it's an 8 core beast with slightly faster GPU, with double the storage, same ram and USB port) and it has 4K upscaling built-in. That's probably the only downside with the 4k Max.
Love the simplicity of the Firestick 4k Max though have one on the spare TV and aways take one on Holidays. Plug it into any HDMI port, find power which is sometimes the TV's USB port (yes isn't ideal) and just works.

Great price for the best streaming device ever made. nuff said.

    • +1

Lol. Good value, but far from the best streaming device.

  • -2

Isn’t this same product cheaper at Big W? Selling for $39:

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/amazon-fire-tv-stick-with-al…

    • +2

      Doesn’t look like it’s 4K max

  • Anyone prefer these over the alternatives? I have a Google TV with Chromecast, and this, and even though specs are better on the Fire TV Stick 4k Max - the UX is a dogs breakfast and slow as molasses.

  • +1

Has anyone got these working so you can cast to it? To me, without casting, it just doesn't compare to the Google regardless of specs!

    • Yes, each time I want to I google 'how to cast to a fire stick' as I can never remember, you'll get instructions for android, ios, pc etc.
