    No Coles or Woolworths! 😜

    • lol

Was literally looking for that 😀

    • No Qantas !!!

    • -2

Metcash doesn't own Coles or Woolworths, they own all the brands they stock gift cards for (IGA, Home, Mitre 10 etc..).

It's like complaining that Coles doesn't sell Woolworths gift cards.

      • +2

I’m pretty sure this comment was a joke man…

      • Now am so pissed off for the fact Coles don't sell woolie GC, ahhhhhhh

  • Why do I feel like some IGA won't accept? What's the goodgrocer branding etc? It's confusing.

    • +2

All IGA operate & buy products under Metcash, but are run by various Independent Grocer groups.

Each group have their own loyalty program. Specials may differ by group. So 2 close by stores may have different pricing.
Causes confusion when Deals are posted. Very different to State based grocery pricing of Coles & Woolies.

Further confusion arises with different naming of stores. Some are branded as GoodGrocer (smaller local shop) up to Superstores (supermarkets). Again sale prices are often different.

Metcash cards should be accepted across the groups. Bought IGA card to use at GoodGrocer 5 min walk from home.

My understanding is that IGA in Tasmania is different.

Tasmanian Independent Retailers (the collective who have a licensing agreement with Metcash to use the IGA brand in Tasmania) operate their own distribution centres in conjunction with Woolworths in Tasmania through a joint venture called Statewide Independent Wholesalers. As a consequence, Metcash does not operate any distribution centres in Tasmania, so TIR is not necessarily buying any goods from Metcash. This also helps to explain the fact that IGA in Tasmania has a separate website to IGA in mainland Australia, plus the weekly specials at IGA in Tasmania do not necessarily line up with the weekly specials you find at mainland Australia IGA stores.

        • Is there a way to get IGA specials online for Tasmanian stores because I could not find it?

        • +1

weekly specials at IGA in Tasmania do not necessarily line up with the weekly specials you find at mainland Australia IGA stores

There are no universal weekly specials in mainland IGA stores! Need to consult your IGA store catalog.

As I pointed out, specials are not necessarily the same even between stores in same city. Have frequently commented about that misunderstanding in IGA Deals.

Each Independent Grocer group operates differently. Same in Tas.

Most IGA groups source products from Metcash, to benefit from the buying power of the Independent Grocer Association.

*Tasmanian IGA is a different organisation, which I wasn't aware of or seen their different site. Transport to & distribution in some more remote areas is more difficult. Requiring a different solution.

          But importantly, Metcash claim:
With an IGA Gift Card, purchases can be made at IGA stores throughout Australia

@INFIDEL: Can confirm, the IGA Gift card is accepted in Tasmania. No issues, use it as a normal card.

            • @Coops1: Glad to read that. Enjoy the discount💰

I know Woolies used to be independent of mainland Woolies. Had their own Rewards program. At least did when I frequently visited Tas for months - years ago.

            • @Coops1: Looks like covered by their locator, but their FAQ

Where can I redeem my gift cards?
Gift cards can be used in participating stores. Please check with individual stores to find out if they accept gift cards for purchases.
Why can’t I use my Gift Card at some stores?
Most of our stores are operated by independent operators. It is at the store owner’s discretion as to whether they accept gift cards or no

So, still best to check with the local store even though most stores should.

    • There's a map on the website that shows what stores accept it.

    Total tools, nice!

Now just need another trade night

    • The giftcard amount you use won't count towards the spend on Trade Nights/Insider Nights.

      As per their terms (https://www.totaltools.com.au/promotional-terms-and-conditio…):

To qualify for the bonus Insider Rewards points in this promotion, you must spend at least $299 or more on qualifying products in a single transaction after any discounts, giftcards or Insider Rewards Point redemptions have been applied.

      • Pretty sure that means you can't BUY gift cards to put towards that $299, not use gift cards.

  • great

  • There's an IGA close to work, guess that's lunch sorted for the next year or so?

Edit: I would like to ask how often these sales occur, seems like it's okay to get a lower value because a deal like this might re-appear? Seems like this deal has popped up once every 4 months this year so far.

  • Thanks for sharing this! Got 4 x $250 IGA cards. Did the same back in January when they also had 10% off.

  • Never purchased physical gift cards for delivery before, no problems?

    • +2

Nup. Used this promo several times when it ran in the past and never had an issue.

      • Thanks

  • Physical GCs and need a scan at paying. If an issue with the card, will need to find a local store that can offer an empty card for you so CS can transfer over. The thing is my local has no GCs in store and the CS hadn't mentioned it either

IGA GCs are not accepted at Freshco either from my last 2 visits at different stores.

Also not sure if it worths even after 10% due to the price hike

    • +1

IGAs are expensive but in some categories there's no alternative to them. I.e. nice not thawed bread can be found only there in inner-east suburbs of Melbourne.

Prices can be different. There's 2 IGAs in Hawthorn, less than 1 km from each other, and the one closer to Glenferrie is cheaper.

doesn't come around as often but the OnlyONE Home Improvement GC also works at Bunnings/Total Tools

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/716916

    • Where can I find the only one home?

    • that was suppose to be 10x points but they stuffed up and was 10% off instead. The ones after were just 10x points

  • Anyone able to confirm whether you can recharge opal cards with IGA GCs.

    • I am interested in knowing as well.
Any other way to get discounted opal recharge?

      • +1

wollies allow top up opal using gift cards
coles top up opal will count toward spending for flybuys offers

    • My local IGA accepted gc early this year to top up opal card. I haven't tried again since

  • Darn it, just bought a $250 GC 3 days ago with one of my Coles mastercards. Would have been so good if it had lined up! IGA is the only supermarket within 3 hours drive

    • Atleast not hacked

    • +1

      3 hours to a supermarket?

      • You'd be surprised how remote you can get. Lots of towns only have IGA

        • How do you survive there? What if you urgently need meds or to see a doc?

  • How much is the postage?

    • Free postage or $7.95 for express

  • Can Total Tools do spilt payments?

    • I just had a look at the online checkout and it includes a separate section for entering a gift card so I would say so. I can't tell how many gift cards you might be able to enter.

  • Online purchases via the IGA Rewards member site only. Available for IGA Rewards members only.

Damn turns out the nearest IGA store isn't a member of IGA rewards! Check yours if you plan to spend this in IGA

  • 10% off Mitre 10 is generally less appealing than Bunnings Powerpass pricing.

  • Has anyone tried using this GC to top up Opal?

    • +1

I topped up using IGA gift cards around Feb/March this year but haven't tried again since
