Tidal HiFi Family (6 Users) Monthly Arg$145 (~A$0.65, New Account Only, VPN to Argentina Required) @ Tidal

770

Although prices meant to go up on August 1. They did and now there not. Maybe it's a price error? That's why I am reposting the previous deal, I got the ok from mods to repost.

Tidal Family Hifi (6 Users) - $0.65 a month Note: There isn't a 12 month option. So you will pay month to month, price will change depending on the currency rate.

Note: This works for new accounts only. Make a new account with a different email.

1. Turn on VPN to Argentina. (Use Tunnel Bear, PIA, Surfshark, Urban VPN etc)
2. Click on Ozbargain link. Single user plan top of page, Family Plans scroll down. Choose Hifi
3. Ensure pricing shows ARS currency. If not, retry or try a different VPN. (Important)
4. Click through the registration process on the plan you want. Note: If it shows $145 in the later steps don't worry, the system means ARS 145.
5. Turn off VPN on Credit Card page as payment will not go through with VPN on. (Important)
5. Mastercard works fine. Visa Credit Card's don't work. See below for other Credit Card options.
6. After sign up, verify your email address (email will be in Spanish).
7. You no longer need the VPN and can use Tidal on any device normally.

Important Family Sharing Tip: When you invite “family” members to your Family Tidal plan via a link you email them, they MUST initially click through and register using VPN to Argentina for their confirmation or else they will get rejected. After confirmation, they can then use Tidal without VPN on any device.
Update: “Unless you add a family member, your plan will automatically revert to Individual on the next billing cycle.”

MORE DETAILS SECTION:

  1. If you use NordVPN, it doesn't correctly connect to Argentina and fails to show ARS currency. Use Tunnel Bear VPN instead.
  2. VISA Credit Card seems to not work. Verified working credit cards are Mastercard, 28 degrees Latitude, Coles Credit Card, Pre-Paid Mastercard from AusPost plus some other brands of cards, see comments.

      • The one with prime sucks. Limited skips, can't play songs of yours choice. You want ultimate, and that costs $$$

  • +3

Hey everyone, move on over to Tidal UAE. It's $5.50 Dirham dollars, which converts to 1.38eur.

    • does it need vpn to setup… what credit card did you use ?

      • +1

Yes. Use Getflix and it works with Revolut.

        • Dang having trouble running Getflix on iOS and Mac. Anyone know of another VPN with access to the UAE?

Tunnelbear, UrbanVPN don't have servers and Nord doesn't work.

          • @poppingtags: Can't even see UAE in the list of countries in the Nord app.

My next bill due in a few days, hopefully goes under the radar (had it for a few years).

Never had any luck with getflix, the whole thing doesn't make sense.

            • @G-rig: Tried Getflix on PC - log into UAE and it shows USD pricing.

Tried Nord on PC - log into UAE and it shows EUR pricing.

I found that out later after I signed up for a 60 day trial extension thinking it was 2 Dirham, but after looking at conversion on my 28d its 3.13 not 0.80c! Oh well got 2 more cheap months!

Any tips on getting the correct country currency to appear?

              • @newgas: Dunno.

Couldn't see UAE on the Nord app (phone) at all. Maybe PC. A lot of those countries are showing Euros. Columbia or Brazil would be worth a go but also show Euros.

Will wait and see if I get the email after im billed in a few days. Worry about it later. My mate would have a uae card.

        • Nigeria or UAE,, which one is cheaper for Family plan ? btw,, great find..

          • +1

@ssd01: None of it works yet lol

    • Nice find!! Tried with Nord, but no dice!

    • Is that family plan or individual?

Can I just move my family plan over?

      • That's what I was wondering too - @G-rig are you sure it wasn't US$?

        • wasn't me - couldn't even find a UAE server on nordvpn mobile.
          Works on PC

          Tidal Pricing UAE:
          Hi-FI - 30 days free then $5.99 / month
          Hi-FI Plus - 30 days free then $11 / month
Family – from only $8.50 per month

          Those would be USD too.

          • @G-rig: Dang, that's what I suspected, thanks for sharing. Looks like Nigeria is the next best bet if Argentina fails. Will hold out until I'm kicked off.

            • @poppingtags: I heard columbia or romania (but those eastern european ones all seem to fall under euros).

Tested a few tracks in foobar, the master downloads seem to work fine 96kHz etc.

              • @G-rig: HiFi Plus Family it's 13.20$ (US $) in Romania

                • @livedigi: Dunno, maybe I was thinking of something else (06,49€ in Slovakia). Apparently Mexico is half the price of USA.

    • Hey are you sure it was 5.50 Dirhams and not US$5.50?

Still can't find a VPN route to UAE!

  • I tried to use AmEx but it didn't let me put it in.

    • +1

Perhaps you're not pushing hard enough?

      • That's not how it works dude. You need to ask for consent first.

  • What's the best way to move over to a new currency? Completely close the argentinian account and make a new one?

  • +3

A little bit of VPN surfing to compare global pricing for HiFi/HiFi Plus:

These countries were less than A$10 for HiFi Plus -
(Tunnelbear was the best at showing local currencies).

    Nigeria $2.56/$4.67 assumed USD (A$3.97/A$7.25)
    Colombia CDP15,000/COP22,998 (A$5.65/A$8.67)
    Malaysia MYR16.90/MYR29.80 (A$5.63/A$9.93)
    South Africa ZAR69.99/ZAR119.99 (A$5.97/A$9.93)

Other countries checked in order of increasing price Chile, Albania, Bosnia, Peru and Vietnam

Note: No attempt was made to sign up.

  • I set my nord VPN to Turkey and the link worked at a rate of 570 ARS (still not bad) for an individual HIFI premium (whatever its called). It rejected AMEX, but MC worked.

have yet to receive an email about banks and foreign cards.

    • Payments are still going through, but it won't last. Even for exisiting customers, we've been charged. Consider it a grace period and probably won't work in 30 days from the email current subscribers got.

      • I wouldn't say that..
Got an email that the family hi-fi plus is going up to $890. I'll still happily take that. Bit more than $225 but still very cheap.

        • Sorry, I think you don't understand the actual issue.

The price change is a separate issue to them blocking foreign payment providers.

The price will be 890 later, but only for Argentinians.

We won't be able to pay at all after September with our foreign cards.

          • -2

@NoApostrophePlurals: I know exactly what the two issues are pal.
Just hoping given the email update in Spanish further to them cracking down I'm hoping it won't apply to existing accounts but we shall see when my next direct debit comes out tomorrow.

            • +1

@G-rig: Lol why so butthurt "Pal"?
I said "it probably won't last" and you said "I wouldn't say that"
So to you it should be "it definitely will last"?
What should I have said? Please correct me. How else am I meant to construe your statement?

The actual information is provided to us in emails. You're literally just hoping. So your rebuttal is based on hopes and prayers and not facts. Good luck with that, sir. Your direct debit tomorrow will still most likely be accepted as this August billing cycle, as others have as well. As I said, the changes will most likely take place during or after September.

              Downvote this also, please.

                • @G-rig: Hopes and prayers is all we have 🙏

                  • @NoApostrophePlurals: Ha.. Yes, will let you know once the next direct debit comes out in a day and a half.

                    • @G-rig: You'll be fine this month. All August direct debits have been and will be fine. It's the September one I'm worried about.

                      • @NoApostrophePlurals: True, depends if this email overrides it.
It's been bloody cheap for a long time. I could always go to a non family plan but may be $20/month but better paying $5.

I've never used Spotify but wouldn't consider it without hi-fi (which may never happen).

                        • @G-rig: Deezer offers Hi-Fi.

                          • @Digbo: Yeah that would be the next one I'd go to, just had a look (A$14/month hi-fi or $21 family, with discounts for annual and one month free).

Could be ok haven't tested it but no need to worry yet.
No doubt cheaper in other countries with VPN, but harder to pay with a foreign credit card these days.

                          • @Digbo: ps. may be worth grabbing some mqa files - not everyone's preferred format but hard to say if they'll remove those or not - no doubt they will eventually.

Wouldn't be bad if they replaced it with normal hi-res like qobuz anyway for hi-fi members, which is the plan from what i've read (following the financial backing withdrawal of MQA). CD quality probably easiest though - havne't sused out a Foobar plugin for hi-res yet (no doubt there is one but none of it is that straight forward). otherwise use Volumio and my dac i'm streaming to doesn't have MQA anyway.

  • Tidal HiFi Plus family subscription is increasing from ARS$225 to ARS$890 monthly. Just received an email from Tidal.
This change will apply on the first billing date after Sep 25. New price is about AUD $4 monthly

    • yeah the email apologised for increasing it to $890 without warning, but, the previous email said that foreign credit cards will not work in future so we'll see.

Notice that this email did not have an English version like the other email - I had to use translate.

      • Yeah same. I'm happy with this, and perhaps existing members aren't affected.

        • yeah hard to say, we'll have to wait and see.

          • @bohn: No point doing anything else ha

      • This is likely for the legit Argentinan users. People will foreign cards will still get the boot.

        • -1

that's what I feel hence no English in the email

  • -1

Next, we will break down in detail what you will have to pay and when.
On your next payment date after August 17, 2023, you will pay $225 through the payment method you have chosen and registered.
Thereafter, the monthly price of your HiFi Plus Family subscription will become $890 on your first billing date after September 25, 2023.

Payment of 570 just went through looks like another month at least

    • My payment of 145 went through on Saturday. And my Tidal profile still has next payment as 145. Will see what happens

      • same ($225). be a shame not to pay $1 for Hi-FI plus family soon, hopefully just goes through at the new price of $890 (which is a pretty big increase anyway.

  • Seems like MQA isn't showing up on Tidal App anymore.
Masters: Max (Up to 24-bit, 192kHz). Interesting.
I don't know where it shows the actual bitrate / quality in the player.

The bitrate is displayed playing via Tidal connect (Volumio & RPi 4), will need to test a few. Probably better with my non-MQA DAC anyway.
Edit: 48kHz 24 bit works fine.

  • I’ve been using this for ages but looks like Tidal have just worked it out, you now have to use an Argentinian credit card. Anyone found a prepaid card that works? Was looking at trying a prepaid Mastercard travel card in the correct currency

    • They're cancelling Visa and MasterCard payments aren't they? Won't matter what currency you pay in . It's always been in local currency only

Edit: I just re-read the email. It has to be from an Argentinian issued card.

$1.00 Hi-Fi Plus Fam charged yesterday

  • +2

My renewal went through today. $1.01
    28 Degrees

  • +1

My family renewal went through at 145ARS ($0.65). Next month's is showing as 589ARS ($2.63). 28°. Will it, won't it?

  • +1

A Reddit user reckons the overseas card blocking starts October. If you renew in October, let us know.

    • Will do, my renewal went through the other today!

      12/9/2023
      HiFi Plus (Family)
      $225ARS

      Receipt
      13/8/2023
      HiFi Plus (Family)
      $890ARS
      Receipt

      • Yes I'm expecting 890 next time, not blocked or charged in AUD.

  • +2

Mine just got cancelled, so get ready.

    • bugger, I was close to signing up, but was waiting to see whats going on :(

        • Saw that, it isn't useful. It's really only good to trial a service you haven't used.

Already used tidal, want something longer term and cheap

          • +2

@nismo: Yeah then what do you do after 3 months.

    • Oh boy..here we go

    • I mean even if it is through a VPN hack, 225 to 890 is a massive increase (75%) so surely they'd be doing ok (but sucks for the locals).

      • You won't be able to VPN hack it any more at 890. Loophole is closing. Only Argentinian bank issued cards. Therefore, 890 is for locals only which yes, must absolutely suck for them!

        • Will see what happens after this month, not good either way.

  • Yep, cancelled email today due to failed payment. Jigs up.

I tried to re-subscribe to HiFi Family Plus, and it shows old price of $250 pesos (instead of inflated $890 they emailed me a few weeks ago)… but won't accept any of my cards. They've locked payment options where card holder is not Argentine based.

    • Good to know. Thanks for the heads up.

    • Same here. Tis a sad day.

  • Cancelled here too. RIP

    • My first billing date of 890 comes up next week, so hopefully not cancelled (28d).
May as well jump on Tidal-GUI and see what i can get.
Sounds like UAE is the next best deal for USD$5??

      • If you get UAE working, let us know… my d-day is next week too…

        • +1

Would only be by using a mates card who used to live there but will look into it

  • I ended up just cancelling my sub before I got the email.

  • +1

    Just got my account cancelled.

    Email from Tidal in Spanish:

"We have canceled your subscription to TIDAL.
    Hello,
Your TIDAL subscription has been canceled due to non-payment.
Don't worry; Your playlists and favorites will still be there if you reactivate your account. Press the button below.
    Reactivate now"

    • Same here :((

  • +3

Received cancellation yesterday. My monthly billing date was today. Oh well. It was awesome while it lasted.

    • same.. it was a good 12 months!

  • If you're not intending to travel may be worth emailing Tidal to delete your account so that they don't retain the CC.

  • Hey guys whats the next move???

    • Was having a look on Reddit, Brazil or Columbia would be good but shows as USD I think.. some people have hopes for Malaysia and South Africa (with ok'ish prices).

      Hi-fi plus single
      MYR 29.80 / month = ~A$10 (vs $24)

I believe Tidal hi-fi family here is A$36, so $6 each per month if people go in together but that's a pain.

'Tune my music' sounds like what you need to export to CSV (haven't made many playlists myself, daily discovery is good though).

      • I tried using tunnel bear vpn for nigeria but my payment didnt go through T_T.

Tidal family hifi plus was 7usd = around 11 AUD

        • Would have been ok. Maybe reply to one of those Nigerian Princes and see if they can hook you up lol.

PS. Not many people I've shared my family with really give a hoot about tidal so maybe single would do me.

        • Thailand is kind of reasonable too.

          Hi-fi plus THB 258 / month= $11.13
          Hi-fi plus family THB 387 / month = $16.69

(still, a lot more than ARS$890 now ($4)

Shitty timing as they are rolling out FLAC hi-res (can confirm playback @ 192 kHz and the FLAC logo.
(It's part of the price increase no doubt).

    • Use a different platform YouTube Music Revanced?

      • +1

lol youtube music. Maybe if you don't care about SQ, sounds like ass.
I have that as part of YT Premium and never use it (unless voice command music channels on the nest).

        • +1

That's true. Use mine the same way. Just giving a free option.

          • +1

            @Whatisthatvelvet: yep no worries.
I just ask to listen to cafe del mar official on Tunein Radio..
Majestic Casual is another good channel / playlists.

  • Has anyone been able to make a nigerian Tidal account with mastercard?
I gave up.. made a qobuz family account

    • +1

Which country did you make the Qobuz family account for?

  • +4

I signed up in Malaysia. about $15 for family HIFi Plus

    • +1

much cheaper than $36 but not that sweet $1 price Argentina had lol

      • +2

exactly! It was kind of insane we could do that for so long.

      • That's 4$ now.
Just think of it as a saving for that period, was too cheap ha.

    • I'm thinking that's the easiest cheapest solution now.
$1-3 was hard to believe but if pay more.
Tested qobuz ages ago, clunky UI and I assume a much smaller library. Native qobuz connect didn't work either with volumio.

      • +1

Just tried Tidal Argentina with Revolute virtual card, doesn’t work. I’ll try Wise and report back

        • Yeah revolute pretty hopeless, still an Aus issued card.
