Ozbargain won't allow me to post said not top rated seller

    • My apologies, didn't see your TWAM until after I posted the deal.

It appears that Titan Gear has lost it 'Top-Rated Seller' status (again), which was the reason regular users are restricted from posting for Titan Gear.

    Yeah, their update very poor.

  • First time heard of TCL phones

Checked with TCL. They say they've heard of you before either.

Have the 20R as a spare, the cpu and UI is actually very zippy.

Pretty much the google base interface with that annoying search bar removed at the bottom.

Regret buying the pixel 7a as speed wise for basic usage was about onpar with the 20R, but camera wise the 20R was pretty bad.

    • +1

the 20R with only 4GB RAM??

      • +1

Yep, basic phone and sms and browsing usage was fine. The processor was really zippy and has 90hz screen.

        • +1

          impressive for the price.

          • @shxhshzhz: TCL Plex was very good and is still pretty good, quite zippy and nice camera. TCL 20R is surprisingly zippy even has 90hz display. The camera is garbage. The camera is the only con. I wonder if TCL 20 5G is very similar to Plex, only the chipset is the difference.

  • Take care with this model. My sim holder snapped and is now unusable

      Buy a replacement.

      • I don't think you can just buy a replacement for these.

Currently trying to find a replacement for an aging Galaxy S9 for my dad/Father’s Day, that ticks the boxes of,

    Reasonable Quality

    Gets Security Updates

    Costs <$500

And in the current market I seem to have to pick two, because eg. even with all the Pixel 6/7 deals lately the Pixel 6a seems to have questionable QC and battery/heat issues.
This’d also only get at most 2/3, but I’m tempted for the asking price.

Samsung and Google are the only brands that I can recall having a 5 year software update policy. OnePlus does also have 5 yr policy but only on it's top-end, most expensive models.

Motorola provides 4 years, while Sony and most of the other cheaper chinese brands such as realme and oppo are committing to 3 years. Xiaomi: 4 years on flagship device but only 3 years on mid-range.

The recent Pixel 7 $499 from Telstra is the only deal that I can think of that somewhat meets your criteria.

if you have access to samsung education, it's usually 20% off so the galaxy a34 would be $479.20. Quality isn't usually an issue with Samsung. Released March 2023, 4 OS and 5 year security from that date so a long time. Performance is strong, more than enough for normal people with 6GB RAM. Battery can easily last two days.
Alternatively, you can get an international model from Kogan for cheaper for $433

Problem with Pixel battery is because of the OS, and/or the apps loaded- Eg faecesbook Messenger, Trolleads, X-troller, CCPchat, etc.

Thankfully the OS is not mandatory, unlike the abomination of OS's most phones are locked into. It not unusual to get 4 days uptime if you do not run all the usual bloatware.

    • Nokia C31?

Surely no one is actually buying this

    • +5

      Why not?

  • +1

    Cheap for a 5G phone

  • Can someone who's got this please check if it supports hearing aids in the accessibility menu?

    Thanks!

  • 6.67" IPS 1080x2400 HDR10 450nits
    Snapdragon 690 5G (8nm)
    6GB RAM / 128GB UFS2.1
Hybrid Dual Sim / Micro-SD slot
    Fingerprint reader (power button)
4,500 mAh battery (18W fast charge)
    3.5mm Audio jack
    206g / 9.1mm Thk
    Launch Price AUD$499 (2021)

    • Good specs, except fat (9.1mm) & heavy (206g)

  • Sure is tempting for the price.

  • I'd have pulled the trigger if it was amoled

    • Surely there isn't an AMOLED phone below $400 brand new

      • Yes there is indeed in fact. Genuine brand new AMOLED smartphone even for under $300. It's the TCL 20 Pro 5G model. It's actually the Pro version of the phone from this deal with way better specs. It would probably hold up a bit better than that phone for that fact.

Personally i would have paid the little extra and got the TCL 20 Pro 5G with the AMOLED (with HDR10) screen, faster processor, better 5G, double the internal storage, dual sim and wireless charging. It's a better phone in every way. But that's my opinion. It's $255.20 delivered but you get a far better spec phone.

  • Anyone knows how to activate VoLTE? It drops to 3G when I place a call. It would mean that I would not be able to make/receive calls after shutdown of 3G network.

    • These phones should already have VoLTE turned on by default.

Are you sure that your mobile phone plan even has VoLTE. If it's dropping to 3G then it sounds like the mobile phone plan doesn't have VoLTE activated on it. Not every mobile phone plan currently has VoLTE.
