Lol why you neg the deal for then? Or you just want it 'coz you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer? :P

        • +1

Maybe because he found it at a cheaper price therefore this deal is not really being a deal/bargain?

        • +1

Oh.. okay, yeah. I didn't really take in that his comment was in reply to the cheaper deal.. for some reason I read it as a stand alone post. My bad.

    • +4

Yeah? Well in the true ozbargain spirit I found one even cheaper! $2.05 delivered

  • Will this work with a Kyocera ceramic knife?

  • Bought one! Really needed one for my kitchen knives.

The LIGHT is even more of a worry… I mean really, do you need the light to aim the thing?

Just as well you bought the tweezer from the meritline deal then ;)

Haha.. yeah! I'm still keeping my eye out for a heavy duty whipper-snipper weed-whacker deal though. =)

These things will ruin your blades. Don't use it on your expensive kitchen knives. If you want your blades sharpened, get it done by a professional. If you want to do it yourself, use a honing steel (to hone your edge) and a sharpening stone.

    • +3

      Agree.

Would you really use $3.66 sharpening thing on your $100 + knives?

      • True… You could use this to extend the life of the cheap-ass Wiltshire Kitchen knives ($10ish). :)

If you have a nice Mundial set or something decent, you wouldn't want this to come anywhere close.

Actually these are very flimsily built (the blade wobbles) and the design assumes a one-size approach for all of your knives.
It's also very hard to apply even pressure througout the entire length of the blade when you're sharpening the knife using this tool — this can cause the blade to go out of shape.

This type of gadget is a gimmick — I used it once and then tossed it straight into the bin.

Another thing is because it's handheld, there is a greater risk of you cutting yourself.

        • That is a concerning thing indeed. Need to be careful while sharpening. I have a whole bunch of POS knives that would go into the bin. This may give them a lease of life eh?

    • I am was actually going to look for a stone after work today. I have no idea where to look though. Any ideas?

These things are DREADFUL for sharpening knives. I have one, never will use it again.

They cause the blade to get all chipped and wavy, as the blade kind of "shudders" as you pull it through.

Honestly, these things are crap. Price is good however :-)

  • this type of sharpener needs to sit on a solid bench/table or you will get "shudders"

    • It shudders ANYWAY. I have one, and it literally DESTROYED our knives. Especially the softer ones like Mundials.

Plus it doesn't even make them sharp anyway LOL

      • Ah I did say and meant this "TYPE" of sharpener, not this cheap crappy one…you cant sit this one properly on a bench.

If you have expensive knives, then you should invest in a good sharpener (if you don't want to get them professionally sharpened all the time).

I got the Wicked Edge sharpener (from an Australian supplier) and it is THE easiest way to get a professional result every time, and it only takes about 5 mins. You set up the blade in the vice at the same position each time you sharpen, meaning less material is removed (after the initial sharpening). It is fully adjustable so you can get the perfect angle for any blade.

The only downside is the cost. These cost about $300. Not really a bargain. But it has been a great investment for me, as I have sharpened all my knives (and friends/family knives), cheap & expensive. Obviously the better steel holds an edge longer than the cheapies.

Trust me, Google or Youtube Wicked Edge to see how sharp your knives can get.
