  • Looks like this is the Google store pricing on 8th Aug for Pixel 7 (not the Pro). Combine with Local Guides 15% + 10% Google one credit for the 256GB model to be around $430 - any TRS/tax claim

      • +1

I'd guess Australia's sale will also be 25% off, that makes the most sense. Why would Telstra's sale have anything to do with it?

    • The email ssaid it won't stack with other promotions…

    • How can we get Local Guides 15% discount?

      • Was about to ask the same question then remembered they emailed me a code recently.

You have to write reviews on places/restaurants etc that you have visited.

I've written 28 reviews and am a local guide level 4, not sure what the criteria are to get the 15% off though.

Thanks OP! Just bought my first non cheapo Oppo phone in forever!

  • just received a text. backordered for snow 128GB

  • +12

Ordered this morning and delivered. All within 13hrs. Wtf? Banger of a price but SHIPPING KILLED IT

  • +1

Managed to get optus to price match via their online chat service, delivery on the way.
No I.D. or existing optus account required.
They charge you full optus price upfront, then credit the difference to your account within a week

    • +3

Just be careful with chatting with them. As I have done so many times chatting about my credit since last year until now I have to contact them every month just to chase my applicable credits every month. Please ensure you have taken a screenshot of the conversation so you can use it next time if the credits were not applied.

    • Oh man….that promise of credit difference within a week… Be prepared for having to follow up for weeks…..I wish you luck!

  • Ordered late morning and got a msg saying hardware delivery delayed! Online chat suggests 2-3 weeks :-(

  • Used iOS and Android, both is ok and easy for me. Is this phone better than iPhone 12? My daughter gonna upgrade her iPhone 12 when iPhone 15 come out. Won’t waste my money on new phones if iPhone 12 performance is similar (my current oppo getting slow)

    • +1

My brother is using iPhone 12 and it's as smooth as my 14 so far. Generally iPhone's life span can go over 5 years.

  • Smells like the pixel 8 is around the corner with a deal like that

    • +1

Will upgrade to P8 in a year's time for this price…. Been using P7 since Oct 2022. Good phone, good battery a tad bigger than I like and an annoying fingerprint reader.

      • There are some things to do improve the fingerprint scanner, no doubt you've looked it up. I wasn't that impressed either to start with but it's ok and face unlock saves it.

Obviously won't be as good as the hardware scanners like the pixel 5. Doubt the pixel 8 will have a hardware scanner either.

        • Yes, it would be terrible without face unlock but works mostly during day time. I look forward to the slightly smaller form factor of P8. P7 is somewhere between a one and two handed phone for an average size hand; hopefully P8 can tip it back to a one handed phone.

          • @viirgon: Yeah the p5 was a good size and lighter, couldn't care about the glass back and finish with the p7 (as you don't see it with a case on and they were obviously adding class like apple). The larger screen is good though, for videos. The dictator software works a lot better than the p5 so I often use that instead of typing/swiping.

Anyway I think the fingerprint scanner has improved a bit with updates, and various settings. Scanning both thumbs twice, in different lighting helped I think.

Even making sure your hands aren't dry helps (try licking your finger and it works much better lol).

      • Why is everyone so confident the, yet to be released, pixel 8 will be $500 a year from now?

        • We live in world of hope

        • Ha it won't be cheap until about 10 months after release.

          • +3

@G-rig: And everyone will be like "only 2 months till pixel 9!"

  • Got a dispatch notification

    • -3

same too, having been told it was backorder this morning and they'll provide regular weekly updates… clowns

      • You must be frustrated by how fast they dispatched your order

        • -2

No, but frustrated by their miscommunication. I spoke to them over chat and they had no idea when they'll be receiving the stock. A few hours later they sent a text with tracking details. A huge company like Telstra shouldn't have this kind of logistics issue.

          • -3

@kron: Exactly, @kron understands, for a multi-national corporation that has no idea about their stock levels and inventory backfill timelines, it's disappointing and pathetic.

      • I ordered one on backorder last month in the $699 deal and it came the next day :D

  • Ended up going in store after work luckily they had one left , couldnt order online at all but in store worked

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought 2. (Literally… Wife wanted one as well!)😭

  • Bought $2 Telstra SIM kit to get Telstra ID — can't even activate the bloody thing, constantly running into "Something went wrong. We're unable to process the request at this time. Please try again later."

    • I havent been able to buy allday ..think its ID verification effing up

  • Price matched at optus store in brisbane cbd. Hassle free and picked it up straight away.

  • A relative has a Telstra account (not me)……if l get them to buy one for me will it be locked to their account or anything like that ?

    • +1

      Nope

  • Confirmed Optus price match in store. Just put on a smile

    • But do you already have an Optus mobile plan?

  • +1

It's very pretty good deal. Thanks for the post

  • +1

Thx OP backorder 128, not sure of delivery date, actually not even sure where I got a Telstra id.

  • how reliable is this website for future google pixel 8 specs ?

    https://www.techadvisor.com/article/1360404/google-pixel-8.h…

    • -1

      Not at all.

EDIT: As in, they are all rumours and leaks, take it all with a grain of salt.

    • Just hodl for the pixel 9..
Can't imagine people paying $999 for the pixel 8, usually 6 months before decent deals come out.. although the pixel 7 pre-realease from JB last year was a pretty impressive deal, hard to know if they'd do that again.

      • The key reason for me is not having Telstra id and poor battery capacity… ! I use Motorola with 5000 capacity and it run all day without fail

        • Battery is fine.
          Just keep that then lol

  • Price matched at Optus, super easy. Called the store first to double check stock, they price matched and sold the phone outright.

    • Are you already with Optus mobile or internet?

      • nah buddy, I'm not with optus. They said as long as Telstra is selling the phone outright, they can match it outright also - but judging from bargainfinder's reply below, it must vary from store to store.

    • Went to the optus Cabramatta store to do the price match. The girl in there said they only price match phone plan, not outright price. What a load of crab! Went home and create an account using boost prepaid number. Thanks op, good deal

      • I tried online we got to the part for payment and they said they would give me the difference in account credit, lol..
they got me hopes up… got my friend to get me one on there telstra account

  • Was hoping to squeeze another 6 months out of my poco X3 (running pixel experience) but battery life is terrible and this is tempting!

    • Exact same situation, you got it yet?

      • +1

Got a few days to stew on it.

I'm imagining that in 6 months this pixel 7 still won't be this price (maybe?) So leaning towards it

        • +1

won't get cheaper than this from a local Aussie seller mate

    • +2

I was having abysmal battery life with my X3 with pixel experience too until I did a full wipe and reinstall of 20230713.

Much better now. Still at 45% from full day including GPS.

    • Your POCO X3 will have better battery life than Pixel 7, you will be surprised.

  • @Mobilecitiau - any chance of matching this ?

  • What's the easiest way to get this with the least amount of hassle needed? I'm unwilling to create a telstra id account and give away that much personal identification. Would buying a $2 boost sim, activating it and creating an account, then using that account as my telstra id work?

    • You'd still need to provide the id when activating the boost sim.

  • got dispatch confirmation for Sunday delivery.

  • Nice secondary phone to complement a s23 ultra?

    • -1

Yes for the camera otherwise no.

  • Received dispatch notification. Startrack from Greenacre. One showing Sunday, the other showing Monday

    • that could be a boost SIM as well. just saying, in case you ordered boost Sims

  • +1

Thanks OP, logged in with an existing Telstra ID (I use Boost, maybe got it from that?) and got the 256.

I was trying to hold out for the 8 since I currently have the 4 and wanted to double my phone on the next purchase.. But too good a deal and my battery is starting to fail.

Anyone have a good cover for it?

    • +1

go peak design if you have mag safe accessories from anyone else using iPhones at home or you can try quad lock if you pursue an active lifestyle. these are just suggestions. different from the mundane

    • +2

Mostly depends on how much protection/bulk you want from the cover. I've always found the Spigen covers to fit perfectly and to be good quality. I've got a new Rugged Armor at home already ready to go when my P7 arrives.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234711940769?var=534451791628

    • +1

Cheers guys I'm getting the rugged armor.

I do have the Aioria one off eBay on my pixel 4 and I quite like it (and it's really cheap), but will try the Spigen this time.

  • Thanks OP. Price matched and got one at Optus.

Don’t bother with JB, went to three different stores, one wouldn’t price match, the other two could put orders through Telstra system (similar to Telstra shop) as instructed by HO however can’t pay with GC.

    • So Optus also do price match? why not just buy from Telstra? I guess cuz of the ID requirement

      • Yes Optus price matched. I can order from Telstra but didn’t want to wait for backorder.

  • dang it, I got my pixel 6 last year for $677 and now this. I got no issue with my pixel 6. This is so tempting, my OzB spirit telling to me grab first and think later

  • 'Google 25th Anniversary Sale' is next Tuesday 8th. I wonder if they are planning to have some epic deals like this, and Telstra are cashing in before those deals land.

    • +1

I'm gonna wait until Tuesday - currently have a 4a 5G that is working fine, but am mindful that security and OS updates are likely going to end in November 2023, and if Google doesn't have anything good, I'll try a Telstra or Optus store in person.

      • +1

Except this deal ends on 7th and Google sale starts on 8th. If you don't like the google sale then this one will have sailed.

        • +1

          can't imagine them beating $500
Probably deals on the pro I'm guessing.
You could always retrun/cancel the telstra one if leaving it till then.

          • +2

@G-rig: Since mine is on back order, i figure this is the best bet.
I can cancel the Telstra one if google have something else I want.

        • yeah, I realise that now. All good, if Google don't have anything good, I'll just wait. I'm not desperate to get a new phone - the 4a 5G is still perfectly fine.

  • +1

Thanks OP, got a 256gb from Telstra store today in Morley WA.

I can also confirm that Optus will price match - they only had 128gb at the time (Perth CBD).

  • Urgh, bought from JB-Hifi for $799, haven't received it yet - still in the mail.

Am I reading the JB returns policy correctly, I can return it within 30 days (unopened in original packaging) for a full refund?

    • yep, full refund. Took mine back to the store for a full refund today. Since mine was an online order, it would take a few days to come through.

      • Thanks for the confirmation :-)

      • Did you return $200 gift card and $50 coupon?

        • +1

Bit of effort but $50 is $50 I guess .
Still better paying less than getting vouchers you don't know what to buy with (and spending more ultimately, so may as well). $500 is a great price.

  • +1

I got a Telstra sim for $2, activated it and tried to purchase the phone. Didn’t work. It’s kept saying you need an active service. So I picked a $12 plan for 7 days (cheapest) to get a service. Once that was activated, tried to purchase it again but kept going the same service message and customer service chat was unable to help. They said to wait 48 hours. To which I said meh…. Would likely sell out by then. So went in store in Woden to see staff could help. The lady was able to process the whole thing in like 10 mins. Was able to get the 128gb black one (which was showing out of stock online) and walk out a happy man.

    • Did you need to show you were a current Telstra customer? My telstraid is broken bad and just seeing what can be done in person in store to maybe get this one across the line.

      • +1

When I went in store, they searched my number. I can’t say if it was to see if I have an active plan or number. However given that the cheapest plan costs $12, not a bad spend if you can get your hands on the device. The Telstra said you don’t have an active service when I was trying to order…not sure if it was saying active sim or plan….

        • So the $12 plan for 7 days ended up working, but needed staff to help activate the plan?

          • @Ughhh: Nah, was able to activate online. But unable to order online (shit site). So popped in store to order. They had stock so walked away with the phone.

        • Awesome thanks just picked mine at Tuggers as they had two left. Didn't even need to have a Telstra account with service just a Telstra I'd which they set up on the spot bargain.

  • Update:

I placed an order for the 256gb at 10am this morning, it was a back-order.

Got a SMS at 8pm that the has been dispatched.

  • 256gb is out of stock. I will try and call a Telstra store tomorrow but its not looking good.
