Does the heatsink in this actually have proper contact with the SSD or does it do the usual Orico thing where the SSD only makes contact with a plastic cradle?

    • +2

      Orico toaster oven for SSDs.

(Actually it looks like it does have a thermal pad and heatsink but it goes inside… a quick look through the reviews people were not too impressed.)

      • Are you bias towards active cooling ones? :P

        • Hah hah no :) I did try an active one and it was really noisy. I think it might have been an Orico actually. So I mostly don't use NVMe in enclosures, if I need one attached by USB for some reason I leave the case open and use a USB fan. But not very portable.

@Mostly Fanless: There are a few with proper cooling, such as the Sabrent (a bit expensive) and this Orico.

I have the Orico myself and it's pretty effective, I moved 200GB to a Samsung PM981a (OEM 970 EVO) 256GB recently and it only hit about 50C (~15C ambient, temp 3 hit ~75C).

@Hiphopopotamus: This iDsonix one surprisingly has good cooling too. Thermal pad + heatsink that makes contact with the aluminium case.

I'm tempted to pick this one up being enclosed in a double sided heatsink with a fan at the end.

Very few boards have USB3.2 Gen2x2 ports. Most likely you will only get 10Gbps speed our of your USB ports.

So want a 40, but those things are an arm and a leg. 20 t this price is crazy.

But yeah, don't chuck in drives that run hot AF anyway then act all surprised that even with a thermal pad they run warm..

IT IS ALUMINIUM!! When will these people learn we don't spell it like they do!! It's the easiest way to tell if a product is Aussie or not. Drives me up the wall….

I rolled my eyes whenever people pronounced Nu-cu-lar instead of the correct pronunciation Nuc-lear.

      • +1000 on that one!

      • +1

Are they wrong though, as there are multiple ways it can be pronounced as explained here,

      • +3

        I was saying Boo-Urns

    • Bo’oh’o’wa’er

  • Don't get me started on that!! Ekski instead of eski, worst one is ARKS instead of ask!! Can keep going on but don't wanna get worked up lmao!

  • after reading some of the reviews, going to give it a pass, the guy that had the pic of it not fitting a Samsung 970 Pro was a bit concerning…

SSD is upside down so most likely they tried to use a SATA drive instead of NVME.

      • Hmm the picture I saw had NVMexpress written on it and it had 1 notch, not 2, so not SATA

        • You're right, they're putting an NVME drive into a SATA enclosure.

There's a SATA option so either they bought the wrong one or were sent the wrong one,

  • It's not there any more. This seems to be a thing with Orico, incredible deal that vanishes very quickly.

    Sad I missed this deal

    • I skipped it.

  • its sharp.

  • I ordered, and they lost the order. Had to get a refund.
