Claim back $50 brother. Ask them for price match

    • +1

i checked with online chat. They said it's up to the discretion of the staff in the store. apparently, there is no written policy.

      • +3

        there is no written policy.

I'm not going to look for it as I don't have the time but they do have a written policy on Price protection. You have 2 weeks.

      • +3

no its not, its a written policy, did this several times, I just called the store I bought the item from

      • +1

Only 2 days. It's worth giving it a go.

      • Negative. It's a policy. My sister did it late last year without issue - just take your receipt back in and ask for the refund of the difference.

    • +5

Purchase one for $347, then return it using the $397 receipt? (Does the receipt show the serial number?)

      • I think the receipt does not show the serial number but they still have it linked to the receipt on their system.
Find out when I was claiming warranty on a phone that they previously replaced.

  • +1

Great price, but remember this has been discontinued for a while now.

    • +2

i know. i bought it for my mother in law who uses it purely to watch YouTube. She was upgrading from a 1st Gen Ipad Air. Nothing wrong with her old device except she is not able to update the youtube app anymore so its unusable. Plus its similar experience with the button. no need to change the way shes been using it.

      • Yep still a great device. Future updates would be more only concern.

  • Sounds like a fire sale OP

  • +3

    my loss…your gain.

    Thank you for your service.

  • +1

And Officeworks is quick to match the price.

No thanks to their AI 😢

      • +13

We're calling web scrapping AI now?

        • +3

          the brainrot marketing worked

          • +1

@Freestyle: It’s not the marketing, it’s that he only knows buzzwords

  • How many more years worth of updates can you expect for this gen?

    • +2

probably another 3 years or so. Unfortunately this model came out in 2021, and if you assume support for 7 years; it'll probably get its last update in 2028.
Will still be perfectly usable though for a long time after that though.

      • -1

I won’t, because a future update will make it run so shit that you’re forced to upgrade.

It’s happened to most of my old Apple devices.

        • +1

I won’t, because a future update will make it run so shit that you’re forced to upgrade

hmm… meanwhile my folks have been using the first gen ipad mini till last year. In my experience their devices last lot longer than any other shit on the market.

        • you know that most people here dont play games on iPad

    • Given that the oldest non-pro iPad to get the latest iOS is an 2018 model and this is actually a 2021 model you would expect another 3-4 years latest iOS from now.

Then you will should security updates for several years taking you to 2030+

I'm no Apple fanboy but overall I dont think thats too bad. Far worse is the 64GB memory which has been appauling for many years. As someone who uses these the Office cache can regularly bloat whatever left of the free space leaving them without unable to take photos or videos or use some apps.

      • +1

I feel like 64gb on an ipad is a lot more forgiving than 64gb on a phone. When i used to have a 64gb iphone xs, i did struggle with space, but half of it was photos and videos.

I've never even taken a photo or video with my ipad.

Apps would take up the balance of the space, but if you're not doing heavy gaming then those apps dont add up to too much either.

  • Good to use this as a car map/ gps?

    • +6

wifi only iPads don't have GPS, so no.

      • Thanks for the clarification

        • +1

You’ll need an iPad with cellular abilities as they come with gps capabilities.

  • +1

And nearly $500 more for the usable 246gb model!

    • My work iPad with 3 pages full of apps still has 36.2GB free out of 64GB.

Power users/gamers who need a lot of storage aren’t going to buy a base iPad anyways. The 9th gen only has 3GB of RAM and the 10th gen only has 4GB which is much less than the 8/16GB of RAM that the other iPads have.

      • Yes your work iPad is probably full of frontends for websites/databases apps & emails & word docs/PDFs.

Home based users tend to store video (whether its 4gb of YT cache), videos & photos. Umm gamers like.Minecraft & Roblox uses heaps of storage, bit don't need CPU power. there's music too. Two of our kid ones both have over 150gb used.

  • Awesome! Will get it tomorrow or Sunday hopefully

    • +1

64gb is fine for me. No interest in games.

    • My kids still using 32gb 5th Gen which is more than enough for their needs.

    • +1

Not so fast mate… I bought the 64gb 10th gen thinking it'd be too limiting. I was wrong. Went on a long haul flight/ holiday with it and it had enough storage space for 12 (!!!) fully downloaded movies, my music and apps. More than sufficient for many people. Obviously some people need more, but surprisingly the 64gb does take you a decent way.

    • +6

Holy shit it's Broden. How much storage did those PS3s have mate?

  • +2

Last iPad to use the Lightning connector.

    • +1

      Yup, good riddance.

    • +6

Nearly bought this but stopped due to this reason. Don't want another Lightning device when everything else is USB C.

      • Yup I'm waiting for 10th gen to be at this price. Sick of Lightning ports. Should never exist in the first place

        • Any day now

    • You saved me $347

  • +1

this is the 2021 ipad….almost 4 years old now :S

    • +1

Sure. It's still fast enough for casual tasks and will get more updates than 99% of cheap Androids.

      • I'm an android household but like an iPad. I'll get this over 10th gen just because I have an OG keyboard/pencil from an iPad pro my son smashed

    • +1

And you reckon it can’t play YouTube, for emails and browse Instagram?

Which is what most people use these for.

  • We use these for clock in devices for staff. Mounted to the wall they work a treat and better quality and faster than similar priced Androids that we also have in the fleet.

  • Games crash on mine but still useful.

    • Which game? how about roblox?

      • I only play hearthstone haha

  • At first I was like cheap then I saw it was 9th gen

  • +2

Lightning. Can’t do it. I want no more lightning in our house.

    • It was thunderstorm in Melbourne last week.

  • even though cheap I recommend waiting for the new budget iPad (11th Gen) just about to be released and buying that with discount GC you have saved up.

because it's gonna support apple intelligence it's getting a jump in chip generation (giving you even longer support maybe even more than 5-7 years). A14 —> A16 with some rumors saying it might even get A17 Pro. normally it's always just one jump like it was before A13 —> A14.

best time to invest in budget ipad with 11th gen double jump in chip doesn't happen often or regularly. I have been putting up with a cracked screen 9th gen waiting for this so I will most likely buy 11th gen on release with 10% off GC I have saved up by buying over the years.

not happy with the jacked budget ipad 10th price during covid though it was double what I got the 9th gen for.
also hoping for base storage to be 128GB for 11th to soften the big price. 64GB is enough for basic use for me, OS, 2 games, streaming apps, photos video etc and I have 20GB left. if I install another mainstream game that's storage 95% full.

  • +1

Not buying anything before 11th Gen is out - even after that.

  • We purchased this online for $397 about 8 days ago. Already back in NZ now and claimed TRS too.
Hopped on the JB Hi-Fi chat and there was a bit of a wait but once we got the right agent he processed a refund no problem.

Couldn't find any mention of price protection on their website though.

    • hows the TRS queue at airports these days?

  • Wow great deal. These are fast and will be supported for ages as the hardware is pretty decent now.

But no, they won’t support Apple intelligence but that has a way to go and better suited to an iPhone if you must use it.

I may buy one just to leave in the kitchen while I cook to watch YouTube and X.

  • Just got update on a price reduction

How do you get notifications from JB?

    • nfi…. I just saw a prompt in the taskbar from jbhifi saying the ipad I was looking at had a price reduction. I assumed I must of had a tab still open from a few days ago.
