8GB/256GB is unacceptable in 2023 at this price range, environmental e-waste.

    • Some places are using these iMacs for kiosks or receptionists, so it's acceptable.

For general consumers, it is really bad.

MacOS’s magical 8GB is like Windows’ 12GB - enough for “most people”.

      • Chrome and Safari say no.

    • +3

If I can get away with doing Adobe CC on those specs then the average person can watch their YouTubes and spreadsheets and stuff just fine. Granted if I leave it running for too long the ram vanishes and I need to restart every few months, but my base M1 MBP feels just as fast as my five year old budget gaming PC with Risen 2700X and 32GB and I forget which GPU, it feels faster actually.

      • +1

Exactly this. 8GB with the M1 chips is fine for most users. If you do video/photo editing or other heavy work, then it's probably not the best device. I use a 16" with 64GB ram every day, but I really don't notice any difference in day to day stuff when using a base M1 machine. Its only the PC nerds that have a conniption thinking about "only" 8GB of ram.

  • I think 8/256 is fine for home use. 24" is the real crime, min 27"

    • +5

There is lots of places where 27 inch is too big.

      • lol

8/256 nope nope nope nope nope 8 GB of unified memory is poo. 16 minimum should be standard

    • i run MS Office on 8/256 macbook air intel and don’t run out of memory, depends what people use their computers for.

    Personally I'd get this instead:
    1. M2 Mac mini with 16GB RAM & 512GB SSD (with AOC, make sure you upgrade the RAM): https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5000447/shop/buy-mac/mac-mini/a…
    2. Dell S2722QC. Brand new = $456.50, refurbished = $369. (brand new: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-27-4k-uhd-usb-c-monitor…)

    Total: 1343.10+456.50=$1799.6

    • +2

Plus Camera, speakers, microphone, keyboard and mouse.

But, I agree, way better to get the M2 Mac mini and buy a screen.

    • Need to add on keyboard and mouse.

    • Speaking of rhe colour accuracy Dell<Apple

      • That Dell is RTing’s “Best Lower Mid-Range 4k Monitor” and that’s saying a lot. If accuracy matters, and most consumers wouldn’t have a clue, be a hero - buy a low end colorimeter and correct all your, family and neighbor’s monitors.

    • Need to point out your pricing is the edu store, its really $1,599 aud for normal store to get a 16gb/512ssd.

      1599 + 456.50 is 2055.50.

The interesting part Is I fell in your trap too the default google search for Mac mini took me to the edu store.

        Hence I mentioned it's AOC 😉

        • And most people won't have any idea what that means including myself

          • @Sammy Boi: I guess they'll probably have purchased it from Officeworks already and they won't be on OzBargain 😂

  • +1

I purchased one 2021 which is at $13xx, same specs today $16xx is a good price?

  • I'm an Apple user but wtf are they doing and thinking putting 8GB of ram into a computer

IMHO you're much better off getting the Mac Mini and pairing it with a 32" 1440p monitor or something along those lines. This is not really a great deal unless you absolutely must have an AIO

    • 24-inch 4.5K Retina display. 4480-by-2520 resolution at 218 pixels per inch with support for 1 billion colours; 500 nits brightness; Wide colour (P3)

One of the best things about MacBooks and iMacs is the retina displays, how much for a 24", 27" or 32" monitor with similar or close ppi?

      • 4k 32" monitors are commonly found about the $450 mark.

        • +1

          4k @ 32" (138ppi) is no comparison to 4.5k @ 24" (218ppi)

    • The iMac will look a lot smarter than that setup. Aesthetics is important to some people, women especially seem to enjoy a nice looking thing rather than concentrate on utility alone. If buying for a workplace where customers can see then the iMac would probably be a better choice. I would personally get your setup, but the iMac is a valid choice too.

    • Suggesting anyone buy a 1440p monitor for a Mac is terrible advice. 1440p is fine for gaming, but MacOS is now designed for retina screens.

  • +1

Not sure about the neg! It is $300 off, so I think a deal. Mac Mini needs a keyboard, mouse, mic, camera. Do the maths.

    • +1

I did the math and bought my M2 Mac mini same specs for $780. 32 inch lg monitor. Glad I did

      • Sure.

But for some the 4.5k@24” is the clincher to buy this AIO.

    • The neg on this deal is ridiculous.
