All the past comments are putting me off refurbs.
Can anyone comment on this sale and the seller?

    • Not aware of the comments but happy to answer any questions you have on the process or if you need to know about any other thing about us

      • If I opt for the 16gb ram and 512gb hdd, is that overkill for web browsing and iTunes backups?
Can I opt for a bigger hdd and more ram?

        • 16GB would definitely give a boost but 512 is upto you if you need that much storage

          • @untechsupport: Thanks. I meant, is there an option for more ram and hdd.. like 32gb RAM and 1tb or 2tb SSD

      What comments?
      Refurbs are great!
      Untech is great too.

It's not just untech, but the competitors here too. Most of their stuff is great, but you can expect a substantial fraction will not live up to the claims and need to be returned. None of them are especially thorough with their descriptions or quality control.

If it is not mission-critical, and you are willing to accept that chance, you'll save a lot of money over new. I'd rather an ex-lease corporate laptop, than a new budget model aimed at students.

That’s a fair point on description and it is definitely one of our top priority.

The way things are bought in this industry are quite different than buying brand new equipment from suppliers. We never get exact specifications of a particular model, information online is sometimes vague and in one single model there are few different variations.

Now, overtime we have developed processes to improve this and it will be further improved because quite honestly it’s an hassle for us as well if customer doesn’t get the product as described.

We are constantly improving on the quality control aspect as well. However one thing I do like to point out is that on average we ship > 300/day. Out of those our return rate is about 2.2%. We counter those by quick support and easy replacement process.

@untechsupport: I can also vouch for UN Tech, bought one machine from them but also bought other OEM machines from other sellers, all through OzBargain of course :)

Sometimes things slip through the cracks, for example once you load up a machine it might suddenly have issues that aren't visible with a single stick of RAM and onboard graphics. In such cases, don't take it personal, follow the process and you should be alright.

But most of the time everything is good and we can have with these refurbished computers.

I do understand that it can be frustrating not knowing how the RAM is configured and other details, but here I would reach out in advance and if the seller is responsive, well give them the business, they deserve it!

Also to avoid surprises, study the online documentation carefully and read the item description thoroughly and ask if you are not sure, for example is it a SATA SSD or NVME?

Seller is great, I bought a refurb HP Prodesk SFF recently and it was an excellent experience and product. Even had extras (dvd drive) on the unit that weren't in the description.

    • I purchased an "Excellent" condition Latitude 5300 from these guys, it had a totally stuffed microSD port, the USB-C port was sloppy/slogged out, and there were wear marks on the screen where it had been resting on the keyboard keys… No where near "Excellent" condition,it went back for a refund….

With an Optiplex desktop you wouldn't really expect issues though…

      • Wasn’t too keen to comment on this(aware of the forum post)

Majority of the times we offer quick replacement or get it fixed.

However he was telling us different issue on support and writing different issues on ozbargain and later wrote to us that he’ll write about our business on ozbargain.

It was best for both parties to not do business together which is why we were quick to offer refund.

You're a blatant LIAR !, that is a total fabrication !, I have only ever stated the facts

The deal breaker issue was the stuffed MicroSD card slot, you offered a $20 refund, I refused that and returned it for a refund…

Here's my initial whinge in the deal thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13665556/redir

Here's a forum post I made that was just a whinge about refurb companies in general, a couple of months after I had been stung by UNTech, it was more frustration about getting stung by another refurb seller: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/785689

    • Bought a monitor from these guys - a ok. Great seller

    • Can anyone comment on […] the seller?

I bought a refurb Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga from them in this deal December last year. Very happy customer.

  • Would it be easily turned to a NAS? I have 2x 3.5” SATA drive…

    • +2

Nope, it won’t fit 3.5”. SFF are more suitable preferably HP if you want to use 2 x 3.5” SATA

    • +1

For a simple media library just plug in an external USB drive. for example WD Elements that has a 3.5" inside. Obviously not suitable if heavy load is expected, but for a simple media streaming it works just fine.

      • Mainly need a NAS for data backup and sync, not really a need for streaming media files. Thanks anyway.

  • Would this be good for Plex/Jellyfin transcoding?

Only 4 units left (at time of post) but I feel like this is a better deal.
