My BES870 has lasted around 5 years so far, with at least 2 coffees a day. Hasn't skipped a beat.
Great machine.
Than you are lucky, I had 2 machines myself which I got repaired and swapped out under the extended warranty due to.. I believe it was the overpressure valve which failed… It will still "make" coffee but you would notice that regardless of fine you grind you can't get into the "expresso range".
That actually makes me wonder how many poeple would still use that machine without noticing that it has an issue / shitty tasting coffee.A friend of mine had also 2 machines both failed the same way, the first one he got repaired under warranty and the second one failed within the first 5 month so he returned it to the store to get a refund and ended up giving up on this machine.
Don't get me wrong it's a great entry level machine which makes great coffee, but I feel certain parts in that machine are not lasting long enough, in saying that I'm not sure what life expextency you should get from a $600 machine.under the extended warranty
Do you buy the extended warranty directly from Breville?
@DoctorCalculon: No from Harvey Norman at the time
Mine had a cracked plastic elbow coming out the thermoblock.. Ebay sell a metal elbow for $10. Fixed permanently now.
I’ve searched this on here and it seems to be closer to $500 a few times a month. Is it worth waiting for that? Do they not usually come with the jug?
Better off waiting for a deal from JB Hi Fi, then buying it using the 15% extra value gift cards on sale tomorrow.
A jug is always included, but this one has a jug with a temperature indicator. Which makes it 100% unsuitable for a dishwasher. The jug itself is only a bit more expensive at Breville's store.
Whoever has bought one or going to buy this one can you confirm that the pressure bar does not go all the way regardless of what you do? Apparently that’s the new setting with these machines.
What's the new setting again? That the gauge goes or doesn't go all the way regardless of what you do?
Mine is 4yo and I can confirm that the gauge readings vary (depending on what you do) and that IDK what setting you're talking.
Gaugue does not go all the way
Maximum mine goes to is around 1 o'clock, even in descale mode. My machine is about 6 month old and it is bes870
mine is also BES870 but only goes up to 11 o'clock , weird
Oh wait, i think you are right, it only goes to 11 o'clock. But i think it is a good thing, even at that pressure it is still high. I can see channeling when the pressure is at peak.
In my office there is a commercial grade machine and it does not output high pressure, probably constantly at 9 bars
@od810: Yeah, the Breville customer service rep mentioned that they made a change because it's better for both the machine and the coffee… or something along those lines.
@od810: It won't go any higher due to the over pressure valve at least when it's still in takt. That what you have consistent/the right pressure
Whats the difference between this and the BES870 that's $100 more?
This is the 870 machine, the 875 is different as includes the fancy milk jug vs a normal milk jug. Buy whatever is cheaper, the jug is a gimmick.
What do you guys think between this and the BES876?
It always came with a milk jug, the "temperature strip" is new though.
I hope they also upgrade the internal components, so it lasts longer than what the "previous" machines did.
