I like new 500G medium dark roast they have, been using them for past 2 months, i have yet to try Brazil one

It's good they have 500g bags, if you're buying 1kg bags you need to be hammering through it to be using it before it starts to go stale.
Their medium dark is pretty good.
Any tips for storing the beans? I find I take ages to go thru 1kg.
Currently using one big plastic air tight container.
Then smaller zip lock bag to pour our my daily dose.I find even in the air tight container. After several months + opening it a few times the freshness is all gone…
These burnt beans / carbon will last forever no matter how you store them.
said to be straight to freezer for long storage but I haven't tested myself
Put enough for about 5-7 days into an air tight container that you keep on the shelf and stick the rest in the freezer making sure the bag is sealed. Top up the container when it runs out.
If you're really keen you can pre-split the bag into multiple ziplocks each containing 5 days coffee and throw them all in the freezer and just get one out at a time to fill your air tight container.
Honestly the best solution for this is to buy smaller bags or buy the 1kg and split it with someone. The beans will be fresher and the quality won't slide as they age.
If you really want to store them I have an Airscape Jar and they 100% work.
Not true, good roasted beans actually can be better at the 5-6 week mark. You’ll need to store them appropriately but they age well
That's 5-6 weeks from roasted, if you're buying a kilo of Aldi beans that clocks already been running a while
@ZuluOz: True in that scenario, even though I have no idea if aldi beans say when the roast date is. Ideally avoid anything that doesn’t state the roast date lol

Get the vaccum sealer from aldi, vac seal, in the freezer, good as new
I buy 500g. Half goes into a CoffeeVac container (off Amazon) and half into a zip lock bag into the freezer

Good OzPSA WatchNerd - these have been my go-to beans since getting a fully automatic Delonghi machine and can't fault them for the price.
Also +1 for calling out the fake coffee bean bargains that have infected this website of late.
These are too oily for the automatics, the medium roast is much better in every way but price.
Hmm, in that case I might give the mediums a go and see if it makes much of a difference - still way cheaper than most comparable beans. Thanks for the heads up
The single origin honduras were my favourite, just another COVID victim unfortunately.
I've seen them around from time to time recently, send an email off to Aldi to ask.

Best bang for buck.
I used to buy other roasters on here when they had their 40-50% off sales. Could get 2 bags for $50-60. Even then, it's double the price…. I am not tasting double the price and Aldi beans are on tap when I need them.

Best two so far…. Republica Organic (medium roast) bought it from Costco for $18.99 a few weeks ago for a 1kg bag. Second has to be Harris smooth (medium roast) waiting for prime day as it will be around $13 for 1kg.

Have been on the Aldi beans for ages. Nothing wrong with them at all. There have been stock issues in recent times and occasionally if you're desperate you may have to hunt them down at different Aldi's. Make sure to buy the beans and not the ground coffee (unless that's what you want of course).

I tried Aldi Medium roast beans and Brazil SO, have not tried the Coles Urban beans. I drink White/cappuccino, how does it compare?
I cycle between the Aldi and Coles beans, happy with both and just switch for the variety
I prefer the Aldi Lazzio Brazil range which is more of a medium to medium dark.
These are great but the Brazil ones are better

No, only "best before" like most, which is usually 9 to 12 months into the future.
Aldi beans are probably the only supermarket beans with indication of roasted date.
Some niche brands sold in supermarket print roasted date but they are much dearer.
We've a Giotto machine and a Macao grinder so are used to semi-pro home coffee.
My opinion of the Lazzio beans is they're good. You can spend four or five times this amount on beans and you'll probably get a better coffee if your set up is good. But for most occasions this stuff is good enough. My advice? Well, my wife came back with a bag full of groceries, including a kilo of this stuff, for the same price we've paid previous just for a kilo of beans. That's more important to me at the moment.
Bought my first bag last week, now having twice the amount of coffee I used to. This Dark roast is absolutely one of the best out there
Good quality beans and always amazed at how ALDI manage to keep the price affordable. only thing I find comparable is the $6.99 bbq chicken from Costcos.
i remember aldi having their medium roasts the same price as the dark ones, but when i checked recently, it costs $2 more.

I'm currently trying out these beans ATM. I normally go for the Aldi medium roast that is 100% arabica. It is pretty alright for coffee but tastes more burnt. Still great for it's value but I would pay a little extra to get the medium roast.
I also noticed that only the medium roast has the 100% Arabica. Does it mean the dark roast has some robusta in it?
That is correct. It is a mixture of Robusta and Arabica but they don't specify ratios.
If it's long running isn't it just normal price not a discount bargin?

A good tip is to look for ones with a long best before ~2 months, then they may only be <1 month old.Stuff spending $40-50 a bag.
Only try this if your 30$/Kg beans are used and you're waiting for another deal on 30$/Kg, that's what I have been doing.. 😂

Try the sensory lab beans from Woolworths supermarkets. Not as cheap, but good when you're in a pinch

I used to get Aldi beans in between sales, but sales happen so regularly these days rarely any gaps in between.

ALDI beans are roasted by a very well renowned Melbourne based roaster.
The raw product is pretty unremarkable but the roasting is fantastic.

My go too and it's really good. I'd pay twice as much for sure but don't tell Aldi. I love it as it's a proper dark roast vs all those wishy washy medium roasts churned out by fancier mobs.

For sure, agree if chocolate notes are what you are drawn to, especially for milk based drinks then the Aldi coffee is great. If you've started exploring the different preparation methods, altitudes, regions of coffee and have a preference for filter or light roast then these won't get much traction. And this is where the roads divide for coffee "snobs" and your average Joe

dont bother, this isn't worth it. doesn't create any crema. over hyped. great price, but the right price.
i went back to buying from a local roaster that ships it out immediately after roasting. make beautiful crema. so worth getting the good stuff. lots of deal available. usually 50-60 a kilo, but can have for 1/2 off
You don't get an amazing creme but the taste is actually pretty close to the $40 alternatives.
Every now and then I might spend a bit more on something else but it's hard not to just be happy with $11.99kg when you drink as much coffee as I do :)
Fake bargains or not, I'm quite rural, so any coffee I can get in the mail wins vs. the bi-annual opportunity to buy from Aldi.

The price has gone up in Qld, about 6 months ago.
Been buying Aldi beans for years, I blend the medium with dark 50/50 and it's a great everyday drinker. Highly recommend. They used to have 1kg single origin beans from Peru which were great too, seems to have been discontinued though.
What's your opinion on the dark? Is it too burnt/bitter?

I’d just buy something like Inglewood when they’re $30ish per kg.
These aren’t bad in a pinch but spending a little bit extra is worth it if you haven’t fried your tastebuds.
Or never try nicer beans and these will probably do you fine and you’ll never know

Brazil Single Origin is amazing for the price. Worth the couple of extra dollars.

I have tried all the beans from Aldi. Price is great and the fact they have batch dates on them are also great. What is not great is the taste for me. I found them one dimensional, didn't get the different notes i normally do with Lime Blue, Inglewood, Airjo etc. That is my experience anyway
Curious and keen to give the medium and dark roast each a try to see the difference with the common "fake bargain beans", especially benchmarking with Inglewood Sunset Blvd Blend (A$30/kg at half price) and Di Lorenzo Specialty Blend Barista Coffee (A$36/1kg) what we usually get. And of course, the Campos Superior Coffee Beans A$29/500g at Woolies.
