  • hey was wondering which beans are good for cold brew. will the PNG highlands single origin be good for that?

    • Morning @e1on all our current options works really well for cold brew. However, due to the fruitiness and lighter roast of our PNG Highland it's super versatile, being excellent for both cold and hot coffee!

      • Good morning to you too! I'm new to self brewed cold brew and would like to start experimenting for the summer. I guess this is highly subjective but ignoring price, which of the various blends / single origins on your site would you recommend for cold brew?

        • Fantastic to hear you're commencing your coffee journey, once the experiments start it can be hard to stop!

You're right it is highly subjective, as it really comes down to personal flavour preference as our offerings are all terrific from an extraction perspective.

A few quick questions so I can hopefully point you in the right direction:

          1) Is your go to fruity, chocolatey, earthy (reminiscent of a bowl of sweet cereal, not dirt haha) or somewhere in between?
          2) Do you enjoy coffee black, with milk or both?

          • @LimeBlueCoffee: Hi, I am also new to cold brew and would like to try brewing it myself. I prefer chocolatey flavors and enjoy my coffee with milk. Which options on your site would you recommend for cold brew? Thanks!

            • @miracleSalad: Hey @miracleSalad welcome to the wonderful world of coffee!

              Nice question :)

We have two super chocolate options currently available:
              1) Brazil São Paulo Single Origin which is along the lines chocolate milk
              2) Swiss Water Process Decaf which is along the lines of a malt chocolate shake which choc sprinkles on top

  • Hey Tom, are the PNG coffee beans light or medium roasted? Are they suitable for pour-over?

    • +1

Hey @Astatine this super fruit Single Origin we light roast and it's absolutely wonderful for Pour Over!!!

      • Fantastic, thanks!

        • :)

  • So I've got one of those cold brew jugs from last summer. But I don't think I know what I'm doing. I'd poured in enough water to flush through without the jug filling up to the basket. I guess as a drip style? And it didn't seem to go well. Your instructions mention "steeping" the grounds. So I assume that's where I went wrong, and I should be filling up enough water such that the basket is submerged?

Hey @salem shucks I'm glad you reached out!!!

There are drip style cold brewers available, but this is 100% designed to be used via a steeling method, not drip. Cold brew drippers generally regular the output brew via regulating the input water, living up to their name they usually introduce a literal drip of water at a time. For the outstanding Hario Mizudashi Cold Brew Glass Pot you'll want to add 70-80g of medium coarse freshly ground coffee to the basket, insert the basket into the glass pot, then keep pouring cold filtered water over the grounds until the water gets to the bottom of the collar which attaches the handle to the glass pot…in other words to the top of the mesh filter so there's no more room for water, this will roughly be 1200ml of water, then just leave it in the fridge overnight and you'll be good to go in the morning :)

      • Cheers! After it's steeped for 12 hours, i assume I remove the filter and grounds. How long will the cold brew be good for from there?

        • +1

          Spot on, great call!!!

Yes, you remove the grounds and basket once the steeping is complete to prevent further extraction. General online consensus is about 2 weeks, however, I usually recommend the best bet is using it within roughly 24 hours as the pot isn't airtight sealed and the level of cleanliness of people's fridges does vary, as does the aroma from other foods stored in the fridge :)

          • @LimeBlueCoffee: I've had a pot for a few days now made from your Kenya nyeri beans (was just winging it). I've been taking 1/2 cup cold brew, 2/3 cup milk, handful of ice cubes, 2 scoops ice cream, throw in a blender. BAM ! deliciously smooth coffee milkshake each for me and my partner. It's been great in this recent hot weather in Canberra. :)

These cold brew pots are awesome. I would recommend buying 2 though. Allows you to brew a batch then keep it ready to drink while you have another batch brewing.

Always have some cold brew ready to go in a nice glass container that doesn’t take up too much space in the fridge.

    • Up there for thinking, fantastic call @AaronR !!!

Love that idea so much that I'm going to buy (I know it may sound daft, but any Lime Blue Coffee or equipment I take home I pay LB for from personal savings, I figure if it's good enough for customers to pay LB then it's good enough for me to pay LB too) myself a second one, as I've literally run into that exact situation myself :)
