Not the case. Dark is Arabica & Robusta beans mix, Medium is 100% Arabica beans.
@huntabargain: Thanks. I've only ever tried this coffee once, I was disappointed, and noticed Robusta on the pack. I must have bought Dark blend, which is surprising. I would have thought I would select Medium.
Might take another look.
I always vacuum pack them intp 4x 250g bags then freeze the first 3 . One day before i use it i take it out of the freezer and into the fridge for 12 hours then take them out of the fridge and wait a other few hours before i use them again and this time they will go into a vacuum cannister and if used correctly minimising exposure you will have consistent shots using the same grind settings for about 10 days for each bag if you are making 1 22g shot per day. Although i do use the brazillian one's they stock.
@BumbaT: That sounds ok we canisters are those?
I just put mine straight in the fridge and they go alright (with a food peg on the bag).
@G-rig: I use coffeevac… 1/2 pound one (250g). But the 1 pound is cheaper (500g).
https://www.amazon.com.au/Coffeevac-Ultimate-Container-1-85-…
@kickling: Noob question; do you keep that container in the cupboard or fridge?
And do you put beans or ground coffee in this container?
@kickling: Thanks may order one. I try not to leave too many beans in the hopper.
500g would be enough, will see what you think but I'd probably still keep in the fridge?
@kickling: https://www.amazon.com.au/Coffeevac-Ultimate-Container-1-85-…
$23 now Prime Day - may as well pick one up.
@G-rig: Yes! Do it
@kickling: A few people have asked but do you keep these vacuum sealed coffee containers in the fridge or out on the bench? Probably not an issue leaving out in winter?
I've always kept mine in the fridge with one of those food clips and seems ok, this should be better though.
They had "medium dark" in 1kg for a very short time. It was excellent (looking for that mocha caramel flavouring) Mixing isn't quite the same (because .5kg is $8…) but we've found it hard to go back to either dark or medium now!
Medium dark would be perfect IMO. I haven't seen it on the shelf. Not a fan of the medium roast, just too light with acidic flavours, dark is good but get sick of it after a while.
Brazil is like 15.99 iirc.
You recall incorrectly
Well it’s something like that anyway.
Care to say the correct one then?
I'm a big fan of the medium roast at 14.99 too - so consistent and everyone I've made it for on my Bambino Plus has raved over how nice it is
Agree, I think dark is a bit more bitter or not as smooth or something.
I buy the ALdi pre ground lazzio dark roast. Of all the pre-ground coffee i have tried this tastes best in the old Moka Pot.
I'll have to try that next time I need a resupply. Thanks!
+1 just for the "fake coffee bargains" comment :D.
Doesn't hurt that these beans are also very high quality for the price making this a real coffee bargain
What's the cupping score, do you know?
Why is medium roast so much more expensive? Like $13.95
Because dark roast is generally used for inferior beans, you taste more the roast than the bean with dark roast. Generally, you wouldn't dark roast the best beans, because you' would lose much of the softer, subtle flavours.
Dark is Arabica & Robusta beans mix, Medium is 100% Arabica beans.
This is the normal price right..?
Yep, not a special
Well spotted!
Lol
These are my usual beans. They have an unreal taste imo! For the cost, comparing the value. These are severely underappreciated. Don't knock until you try!
So confirming the roast date is taken from 210503 being 3rd May 2021? (for that example picture)
Also interested to know. Because if that's true, a "best before" date of 15 months later is laughable. But at least we'd know the useful roast date, if that's it.
This is how I read it too lol, so they're over a year out of date?
That's an old photo uploaded to OzBargain in August 2021.
It's not even the same roast that OP bought. (Medium vs Dark)
Yep old pic.
Coffee snobs brew Aldi medium roast beans.. 😜
yeah I like light roasted beans, so I wouldn't like this any way since its medium roasted.
The Aldi medium beans are my go-to, when I've run out of "fake coffee bargains" beans. It's a fine world when OzB delivers great coffee beans at big discounts, and keeps us in the loop about which supermarket ones to get as well.
Agreed, use the Aldi beans when I've run out of the Ozbargain "deals".
Airjo tastes no better than Aldi to my mouth.
Tried Airjo and Aldi, and I prefer the Aldi Medium over the Airjos
How much adjustments do you do with grind size and amount when you often change the beans you get?
Always takes me 4-5 shots to get tothe ratio and timing that tastes right.
I usually highlight this when people ask where to start with beans. I actually found the pre ground was actually very palatable and keep some on hand at my workshop with an aeropress.
I am still a noob rocking eureka grinder and gaggia classic pro and aldi bean is very acceptable for normal drinking and practise/dialing in. However I do taste difference from the 45 aud/kg beans so those are not pure waste of money.
Just a heads up, the medium and medium dark bean from aldi said 100% arabica on the bag, but not on the dark bean.
This is normal, price… Beans are amazing for the price and they are locally roasted in Melbourne from what I have seen.
^ yup. Roasted in Melbourne now. So can be pretty fresh in your local shop.
This is my usual go to and every now and then I support the independent coffee roasters and buy a pack or two from them…
There’s a reason why Aldi’s coffee often wins awards from Canstar or Finder or whatever, because it’s damn good.
Then again I’m not a snob and enjoy McDonald’s coffee (if it’s not made poorly) and think Axil is really overrated and tastes weird.
Maccas coffee varies a lot from branch to branch, ive tried really good ones, to plan horrible watery messes worse than 7/11
Agreed, although I love getting the points and can bring my reusable cup, so I take the risk haha
And that comes down to the barista really, not the coffee itself hence why I said if it isn’t made poorly. There definitely is variance between stores but it’s still quite good IMO.
7/11 isn’t bad in a pinch, especially for $1.
7/11 isn’t bad in a pinch, especially for $1.
for the price, yes definately not bad.
Taste is subjective, and everyone has unique preferences when it comes to coffee, for me 7/11 or Shells coffee tastes really bad, cant drink it everyday :)
Cant argue with the price.
@ky1975: Now now, the shell coffee is way better than 7/11, I can't drink the 7/11 one at all.. But the shell small has gone up to $1.50. I assume 7/11 is still $1. Still rather pay the $1.50 over 7/11 $1.
@Justin9mm: 7/11 is now $1.50 now too, and that's only if you scan the 7/11 app.
@HappyPants: Oh even worse you need an app for that price. I will stick to Shell
If you get watery messes, tell them and ask them to make you another one.
I tried Coles $12 per kg beans and they tasted okay to me too actually.
I tried them too when Aldi shelves were empty for over a month and thought they were passable
I don't have a grinder, so buy Ground rather than the Beans. The grind is a little coarser than I'd like, but I can't argue with the quality of the coffee from the De’Longhi Dedica machine I bought from Aldi a year or so ago.
It's on sale again for $179 this Wednesday, typical retail is as much as $300.

Any advice for a decent (not crazy expensive) grinder to go with the Dedica Espresso machine? Is the Dedica Grinder any good?
https://www.delonghi.com/en-au/kg521-m-dedica-electric-coffe…
Sunbeam EM0480 is the best grinder at the lower end of the market. Used it for years before upgrading to Eureka Specialita.
my experience with sunbeam was that it kept getting jammed, so had to return it
Never had that issue. Must have been defective.
For $50 more you can get a Breville Smart grinder Pro which will do you well for longer than the Sunbeam will.
inconsistent grinds with that sunbeam, it's not very good at all.
Kingrinder k6 gets great reviews and I bet we’ll see a sale on it for prime day- but I would prob look at using it with a drill , hand grinding looks like it will be a million years compared to how long it takes to drink the actual coffee
I'm currently using a 1ZPresso J-Max and it takes about 30 seconds of hand grinding for 22g of espresso grind, which isn't too bad. I usually make a couple of coffees daily and it's very manageable. Its actually kinda nice to feel the resistance that different roast levels present when grinding, adds another tactile element to the brewing process.
That said, I've placed an order for the Timemore Sculptor 078s, so my hand grinding days will be limited to travel soon.
Pre ground beans will often get infested with cockroaches, and then re-ground before they're bagged, so if you're wondering what that 'unique' flavour is…
Lol! Seems some folks don't wanna believe this actually still happens. Maybe not in Australia, but globally, it's a persistent problem with cheaper pre ground imported coffee. If you must buy pre-ground, I suggest you stick with coffee that's ground in Australia.
Didn't know that was actually a thing. Lol
The Dedica Grinder is terrible, definitely avoid it! For an electric grinder, the best value is probably the Breville Smart Grinder Pro on sale and the Baratza Encore ESP.
i just bought a 500g bag for $8 and yes it very course grind
coles have 1kg bags of dark roast which i didnt mind for $12 or a 250g for $4.50 if you wanna try it but the grind is much finer so no need for the grinder.
note im not a connoisseur i would happily drink instant if i ran out of ground coffee
This is RRP?
My free 1kg moconna beans bag just finished lol, was going to check out Primo beans but I think Ill try Aldi ones first
Primo was cheaper, under $10/kg and that was for non-burnt beans
Haha, mine too (last month). Had 4 bags of it. Was good while it lasted
Great deal, although I'm noticing a lack of Knoppers Nutbars on your receipt!
Yeah I considered it but bought a 180g Dairy Fine chocolate block $1.99 instead. Better value per 100g.
Interest rates are definitely biting. I have switched from Inglewood/Airjo to Aldi beans and found no difference in quality. Aldi beans are fantastic if you can find a recent roast date batch.
damn looking at your downvotes, the date of roast was 3rd July 2023, RIP kungfuman
cool I am glad someone told me thanks man.
I would jump on supermarket beans if they were freshly roasted
These ones are, most high turn over stores sell bags that have been roasted no later than a month.
100% right freashly roasted is the way
I know it sounds weird, but Aldi beans are not your average supermarket beans 👍😊
Used to spend $40/kg on coffee.
Ran out of beans one time and had to settle for some ALDI beans. Taste almost as good and less than half price.
Been on the ALDI Beans since
same, I love Lime Blue Coffee for instance but can justify the price compare to Aldi's bean when the taste difference is very subtle.
Aldi beans for the win :)
Love this blend, have it every morning.
Tried most of the bargains on here and found them mostly good but no better than the Aldi beans. I just make sure to check the roasted date.
These are robusta beans and pretty "robust" to say the least. I find they're good to blend with a lighter Brazil or similar but on their own a bit too much for everyday use. Higher caffeine in Robusta beans and more crema if that's your thing;)
I gave it a go but I found the resulting taste to be too light for my personal preference.
Any guidance on recommended settings for the Breville Express (Pro) regarding the
grind size, amount of coffee, yield, and brewing time?
All machines vary. You'll need to learn to dial in every different bag of beans to your machine.
I've had the Medium, Dark and Brazil and find for me I like best Medium>Brazil>Dark.
I have the same preference. :)
Thanks for sharing @mymilkynipples
Like most other people here, I agree the Aldi beans provide excellent value - they’re not the absolute best, but they’re also a quarter of the price.
these are my go-to beans, if there is no fresh stock, no stock in Aldi, we buy Urban Coffee Culture Beans from Coles and they are great too!
@spoco2: Yeah they were 100% arabica on all their coffee for a while, then they started to not include the 100% arabica when the repackaged.
Even their pods are hit and miss for them.
