    That's a lot of computer…

  • +14

Wow that's a heck of a deal on the 16…

    • I reckon…paid 3.2k for my 15 Inch 256gb 16GB…

      • +4

Fvck it guys, this tightarse finally pulled the trigger. My wallet is crying :'(

(but my old machine survived for 8 years, this has more potential. Buy once cry once)

        • +4

Nice work! Imagine trying to get 8 years out of a Windows laptop…

Yeah I got 8 years from my last MBP, storage will be the issue for an upgrade I think in the near future.

          • +7

@starspawn: Yeah, being technically literate I've always bought "good" Windows Laptops at "great value" prices. Even with that, most had problems after 3 years, and my longest one survived/remained viable for 6 Years.

I'm expecting this laptop to last for 10 Years, due to the high build quality, support, and the overkill specifications.

PS to Everyone: it is all SOLD OUT for the 14in model. The 16in model is arguably better value for money (better cooling, more storage, bigger screen/speakers/touchpad/keyboard). There are still a couple of the 16in models left. I checked gumtree and Facebook Marketplace and there isn't any used models that offer a similar price/performance. This is as good as it gets folks, until the next "killer deal" in 2-3 years time, as some other commenters have noted.

            • +1

@Kangal: EDIT 2: sorry folks, they're ALL now SOLD OUT. Thanks for playing, see you next round :D

  • Is this too much for say starting music production?

    • +9

      Its a bit overkill

      • +1

Thanks. Would you have any recommendations? Only looking at macbooks at this stage. Some say 8gb is enough, some say minimum should be 16gb so I'm really confused lol

        • +4

Music production isn't super demanding in the way that video editing is. You'll likely be fine with the macbook air (maybe upgrade to 16gb ram just for some breathing room in the future) if you're just starting out

        • +5

Depends on how many plugins (VSTs) + channels + samples you want to use in a project, primarily channels + samples. If you're doing mega long recordings on multiple channels then yeah, the more RAM the better.

Oh and if you're using older 3rd party VST plugins (not VST2 or VST3), you'll likely need to use rosetta no thanks to the difference between intel and apple silicon.

    • +4

Overkill, but would be good lol

You can use a 1k PC laptop.

If I used a laptop for work, music or video editing then this would be pretty awesome

      • Thanks. Only looking at macbooks to use logic pro. I believe they're exclusive for apple

    • +4

Overkill yes, but fantastic value for what you're getting and worth considering

      • Thanks

      • I'm pretty sure these are Grey Imports.
Apple didn't sell the M1 Max chip in Australia for the 14in version.

It's a really good laptop, but the 64GB/2TB option really balloons the price. Storage can always be added cheaply later, not so much for memory, and while you'd want 32GB now I can see the 64GB amount being useful in the future. Overall, woulve been a much much better buy if this was priced at AUD $2,000 with a step-down to a 32GB/1TB configuration. Someone tell 'em he's dreamin' !!

        • I have an Australian 14" M1 Max. Definitely sold here (as custom builds).

          • @AaronR: Do you know if those custom builds are supported by Apple Warranty, and Apple Care+ buyable/cover-able ?

That would be a big WIN if they can be. I got conflicting answers when I asked one of their "geniuses" if I can get proper Australian/Local warranty on a MacBook Pro that I bought from USA.

            • +1

@Kangal: Pretty sure he means using the configurator on the Apple store, so treated normally as opposed to ones bought in the US.

            • @Kangal: I’ve got AppleCare+ on mine, but it’s an AU custom purchase (technically, from the refurb store but a custom config).

            • +1

@Kangal: Received my 14” from this deal. Added Apple care 3 yrs no problem.

              • @Evostar: Is it really worth it? And why?
I'm guessing 3 years is the max coverage for the "insurance" and cost you AUD $329. And you can't add a fourth year renewal, fifth year, sixth year, etc etc.

Nice, I just got mine now 10min ago.
I'll have to charge it up, and might do the same, depending if it's worth it or nah.

                • +1

@Kangal: You can buy AC+ yearly which (afaict) can be renewed indefinitely.
Is it worth it? For an optioned up model I'd say so. Like any insurance, if you end up not needing it you feel like you wasted money. But if you break the screen you will wish you had it…

    • Sure, if you wanted to create 10,000 songs every year, this will do you.

    • +2

Hey man what type of music do you make.

Drop some links in the chat.

  • +1

    wow, what a good deal.

  • considering the upgrade costs for ram and storage on a lower tier macbook, is a fair bargain.
only 10 core cpu and 64 core GPU, would like a more balanced config myself but for those doing video editing etc you can see the appeal

    • +2

These don’t have a 64 core GPU. The M1 Max tops out at 10c CPU and 32c GPU.

      • Are you talking about M1 Ultra?

        • This is a thread about MacBook Pros, no one is talking about M1 Ultra.

Even if we were, the Ultra is 20c CPU and either 48 or 64c GPU.

      • Sorry misread the 64gb
Still would have liked to see more compute for the top tier, but as always depends on people's workloads

  • +1

    Wow, great deal

I bought the the Pro with 16GB ram and 1TB HDD two weeks ago

Would have happily spent the $400 more for Max M1, 64GB ram and 2TB HDD 🤦🏽‍♂️

    • Yeah I bought the 14 inch 512gb one officeworks were selling the other day. Wouldn't have minded this one.

      • From the OW returns policy page:

If you have changed your mind about your purchase, Officeworks will be pleased to offer you a refund or exchange provided that:

You return the item within 30 days of purchase
You produce a satisfactory proof of purchase (being your original register receipt or online proof of purchase, such as a tax invoice)
The item is in re-saleable condition, including its original packaging (if any), is unused and as sold

        • Already opened and used unfortunately! Oh well still an alright deal.

          • +2

@jordan23140: I reckon as long as you have the original packaging then wipe any finger grease off of it, do a factory reset, and dad's your uncle.

          • @jordan23140: Take it to the Alexandira Officeworks store, they're pretty good with returns. I have returned opened Mac Studio before, said change of mind and I needed more RAM. Easy returns :) but YMMV.

      • +3

I placed a 14" OW order at 630pm, decided to check ozbargain, came upon your post, cancelled OW order, ordered 16" mwave deal lol.

        • +3

The OzBargain is strong with this one

      • I bought off JB when they had their sale about two weeks ago

  • Anyway to price match that 16 and use discounted GCs?

    • I'm on the same boat. Can't seem to find these models at jb or officeworks

    • +3

I think before you can do that those will be sold out

      • Still a lot stock there.

  • +1

Good deals, but M1 max is better suited for 16".

  • +1

Just a point to note on the 14" models, these are configure to order as per the product description:

CTO Model - ETA 4+ Weeks from Order

    • +1

Missed that. Will add to post thanks.

    • what's CTO model means?

      • +2

        Custom to order ?

        • +1

ah.. why they would do this much sale if it is not in stock lol

          still great deal

      • Configure to Order ie not a standard stocked model, built on demand

        • +2

Surely these are no longer made now as apple are only making m2 ?

          • +2

@whoistheg: Apple have discontinued off the shelf M1 models (otherwise known as BTO) but you can still build and order an M1 CTO configuration via Ingram or Synnex.

Most vendors which target Enterprise customers offer custom build models for longer than off the shelf models for consistency reasons, no corporates will jump to the latest models without extensive testing.

    • +3

The 16" is CTO as well … but they don't have the 4+ week ETA on it?

      • they have the stocks. my 16" has been dispatched this morning

      • Mine was also shipped this morning.

I also asked if customizing it was possible and they said it wasn't possible due to their streamline process.

    • +2

All it said in the description was “CTO Model”. It’s likely that they had excess stock of them that they’d had in for an enterprise client in order to meet demand and are now offloading.

I’d like to see some confirmation as to whether they’re actually ordering CTO builds and didn’t have them in stock, especially given there were only a finite amount of them available on the Mwave site.

    • +1

I think for this price. that's nothing.

    • +1

      What’s wrong with it ?

      Restocking products
In some circumstances, we are happy to offer our consumers with a conditional courtesy return if consumers want to exchange products purchased incorrectly provided the:
      • customer notifies Mwave within 7 days of receipt of delivery of the product;
      • products are not opened, used and are still in pristine condition;
      • customer accepts a minimum restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price;
      • Mwave may reject the return upon inspecting the condition of the products and will return the products to the customer at the customer’s expense.

Acceptance of such returns are at the discretion of Mwave.

    • their change of mind return policies are an extension of ACL, better than nothing i say..

  • +9

    Order placed. Thanks.
Given that the base model of the current M2 MacBook Pro is priced at $3199, getting the almost fully maxed out spec M1 Max for $3149 is definitely a deal imo

  • +1

Holy Freedom Fries Batman! This is good. .I paid $4.5k for 16"/10+32core/64GB/1TB

    • +1

How did u get 64gb ram with that config for 4.5k? Because even with AOC apple, u could only get that same config but with 32gb ram for 4.6k.

  • +1

    Would Apple price match this??

I have 4k apple GC.. and this is tempting

    • Apple only has M2 MacBook Pro 14" and 16" models on their website and they only price match up to 10%

      • +1

10% wouldn't be comparable better keep the GC haha. Thanks

    • +2

Apple is selling the same config in refurbished store.. $4719 for 14” and $4939 for 16”

      This is a ridiculous deal

      • +4

yeah this is insane deal. You can hardly see this deal once a 2-3 year

      • +2

The 16" refurb config is $5,649 (32 core GPU, 64GB, 4TB) … which makes this price for a brand new one even more ridiculous

        • +1

You are right, I misquoted the 2TB 16".

  • +2

ah.. should I buy this or wait for M3 I heard M3 might be touch screen monitor with much faster chipset 5 nm -> 3 nm

    • Buy if you need it for today, there will always be a better faster product in the future. Plus the M2, just came out so you will be waiting a while for the M3.

      • I have same spec mac studio already but need mac book too. but somewhatI can wait for a year. I was waiting for this price is so tempting haha.

      • Six months for M3.

    • M3 looks like it's going to be an efficiency AND performance bump, and FaceID. We're not getting touch screens anytime soon. Besides they're more likely to come on an iMac that swivels, like the Surface Concept version Microsoft made. If you want touchscreen, Apple can sell you that, but they will delete macOS and install iPadOS instead :\

      • I heard FaceID isn't currently possible on such thin screens (unless they compromise security?). We're going to be waiting a long time..

        • Doubt that.
Even so, they can make the FaceID cutout area to be thick, and the touchpad area to have a hole. So that when closed it becomes whole again, but when opened, the screen has a small area where it is thicker to cover for a high quality and high-resolution Webcam, IrDa emitter, and IR-camera.

Security is one area that Apple takes more seriously than its peers. We will see a new T2-security chip debut later this year, built on 8nm instead of 16nm, and probably with stronger encryption and physical eFuse design. The T1 chip in the Macbooks have yet to be compromised. Apple wants high security to allow people to use their devices for payment and banking.

The TouchID has been superior in my books, but FaceID makes more sense on larger devices like the iMac, MacBook, and the iPad. They can sense you from a distance and unlock before you even touch the device. Has other benefits for Apple, like Data Collection than simply the fingerprint scanner.

    Good for VM and games?

I think VM yes; games no?

    • +1

No VM but Gaming yes soon.

      • +3

Apple released their game porting toolkit during the latest WWDC. A lot of DirectX 12 PC games can now be played with some tweaking.

        • that's beta so i s
          said soon

      • +1

Care to explain why not good for VM? Consider it has big ram and up to 32 cores? Thanks

        • Would like to know as well
