      • Can you update for all of us, which model you got and if you were able to get Apple Care+ ?
Also how much was the cover, do you think it's worth it, what are the perks etc etc.

I only got my dispatched email 4 minutes ago.

        • +2

I personally feel that AC+ is worth it. I got the 14 inch, it is showing priced at $159.99/yr (can be renewed indefinitely), or $449 for 3 years (one-off).
My previous Intel MacBook Pro 16 had a motherboard failure due to a dongle being plugged in during a macOS upgrade, luckily it was covered by apple care, I was able to take it to the Apple store and they replaced the entire motherboard for me. The quoted cost was something like ~$2500.
And imo the most important benefit of getting Apple Care is that it allows you to use your MacBook more freely and without constant worry. If anything goes wrong, you can just take it back to them

Seems that Apple had a lot of these skus built that never sold - B&H Photo is running a sale on the same configs: https://www.macrumors.com/2023/06/21/deals-high-end-macbook-ā€¦

This would explain the flat batteries on delivery - they've most likely been sitting in a warehouse for 6+ months.

    • I'm hoping another retailer runs a sale, I want a 14"

Maybe a cheaper price before end of financial year? Haha

    • Unfortunately they didn't ship to AU.

      • It wouldn't be worth it with the exchange rate.

I would be surprised if Mwave is the only retailer with access to MacBooks this cheap though, so it'll be interesting to see if anything pops up in the next week.

  • For most people though M2 15" macbook air and just get the 16gb ram and 512 hdd upgrade?

    • +1

      Yeah, that would be fine.

This is really overkill, but I would use it music production and I plan on doing video editing this year.

I've watched a lot on YouTube videos, and the M2 Air would be plenty for most. It takes a bit to max them out!

    • These go to eleven.

    • I bought this over this deal, I think battery life and portability is what pushed me towards the 15" which is what I look for first in a laptop

      • half the price too, though 16gb and 512 brings it to $2500

if dell xps didn't charge almost $3k for a comparable screen would rather get an xps.

    Received mine today! Thanks OP!

    • Is battery dead on arrival ?

      • no. booted straight out of the box. had about 60% charge and is now charging as normal.

  • +1

Are they adding more stock to this deal ?

    • +1

I've asked multiple times, I haven't heard anything yet.

      I'm hoping so, I wouldn't mind a 14".

    • +1

I think so because I got a reply from them saying, they will get more stock soon.

      • Awesome, hopefully my new CC arrives and it's an easy 70k bonus points.

        • yeah I was a bit late.. I though I saw a comment from the Store which said they might get more.. hopefully I can snag a 16"

    • more stocks for the 16" have been added.

I asked about special and the answer was- definitely not before EOFY, and unsure about next year.

      • I need 14", and have a friend interested to buy a 14".

14" silver is in stock, at full price unfortunately as well.

I have a new CC on the way, so don't mind if it's in a month. Just see if it happens I guess!

The MacBooks can be added to cart, but no discount applies

    • Yeah, just a bit of supply and demand at play.

Once, the rush for it stops, the discount will pop again.

I was lucky to grab one.

  • 16" would be sweet, as I barely travel and after going to a 14" from my 16" Ultrabook I noticed a huge difference.

I think either way, id connect it to a larger 32" anyways.

Hopefully it pops again, it'll be one of my most expensive purchases but MacBooks hold value pretty well. I feel like it's last me 10 years anyways.

I did buy a HP last year, barely used it too.

Talked to customer support this morning, info I got, they wouldn't count on any more stock coming with discounted price, it applies to 16 and 14. But only time can tell if it is true or not

    • Yeah, if it happens it happens

I don't really need a laptop so powerful, so it saves me money.

If it comes about, then I'll buy it.

    • +2

Its kinds pointless to get more stock but not sell them at a reduced price.
Who would pay full price for these when they are now 18 months old..

The only reason this deal was great was your getting killer M1 specs at current entry level M2 prices.

You would grab a M2 refreshed version instead.

Lets see if they drop their prices again in a few weeks

Mine arrived this morning (ordered about 9am Thursday). Battery was indeed flat like everyone else's, but plugged in the power and everything came to life.

I'm switching from a 13" intel macbook pro to a 14" M1 Max - damn this thing is fast. A bit heftier than the 13", but the screen is definitely much nicer. Some regret I didn't go for the 16" for the extra screen real estate, but I know the first time I travel with this thing, I'll be glad I went with the smaller option.

My 16-inch MacBook Pro arrived this afternoon, ordered around 9:30am Thursday.

Arrived with macOS Ventura 13.0, and had ~40% battery so turned on as soon as I opened the lid.

  • I got a 16" MacBook Pro from this deal and checked AppleCare+ prices - A$239.99/yr. or A$649 for 3 years.
I think that price is based on the spec, but that seems like a lot!

    • I think it's just based on the model - 16" costs more than the 14", but an optioned up 16" doesn't cost anymore than the base model.

      • I remember checking AppleCare+ prices for a lower spec Macbook Pro 16" (M1 Pro/16GB/1TB) sometime last year and the prices were lower.

    • Yeah I purchased the same laptop and got the same price for AppleCare - that is a lot of money but then again the laptop was $4k. I am still undecided if I pay for it or not.

      • I purchased AppleCare for mine - for the 14", it was only $150/year when you purchase 3 years, and you might be able to get the 120% tax deduction (govt tech related tax legislation they passed for businesses in the last week or so).

Someone is selling one on Facebook Marketplace for $4,700

People down voted me, but I told you it would happen.

    • It was bound to happen - that is capitalism after all.

      • The bloke called me a rat just for messaging him, and took the Ad down.

The problem is when a potential buyer sees the original invoice, they're probably going to bail.

Imagine going to pay $4,700 and you see the receipt for $3,100 šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

        • Yeh, I would bail in that situation .. but remember during covid when people were selling second hand cars for more than than paid for them new?

Anyway, ignore people on the internet that call you a rat, and concentrate on the hunt for the next deal.

          This is the Ozbargain way.

          • @qwijibo: Most people spending 4-5k, are probably buying through a business for tax purposes.

Any buyer buying for themselves, would definitely be pissed when seeing a receipt for much less. I think most, if not all would bail.

He got real mad, and blocked me šŸ¤£

I may just forward his AD to the ATO, make sure he's paying his taxes šŸ¤£

        • He got real mad, and blocked me šŸ¤£

hmmm, isn't that just special, you might be hurting him quite a lot just by lowballing. Such a greedy dumbass crybaby.

      • …so that makes it ok to dox him?

  • Question to those who got the 14ā€ over the 16ā€.
What was the deciding factor to pick that? I would love to have the 14ā€ for portability reasons, but realistically speaking 90% of the time it would be on my desk and even if on-the-go iā€™m hesitant to pick a smaller screen vs a bit of extra weight.
And yes, I know at the end of the day its more of a personal preference but Iā€™m curious why others picked 14ā€.
    Thanks

    • +1

That is pretty much my split - 90% of the time it's tethered to the desk, the other 10% I'll be using it on a train, plane or in the park.

For me, the portability during that 10% was more important than the bigger screen for the other 90% - I have a dual monitor setup, so the extra screen real estate at the desk is wasted, and on the couch I rarely do coding, so again, don't need the extra space. Portability for the 14" is about the same as my old 13" macbook.

Throwing this thing in my bag to take for a day out is effortless compared to my memories of a 16" I had for work a couple of years back.

So far, the only bad thing I've noticed is the battery life - about 7-8 hours under moderate (e.g. typical software dev tasks) load.

      • +1

Same for me. Had a 16ā€ previously and much prefer the 14ā€. Strangely I sometimes wish it was bigger when at a desk (because it sits open next to 2x27ā€) but never feel that I need more real estate when using it as an actual laptop.

      • Thanks heaps! Appreciate your response(s) - especially since it closely aligns with what I thought. :)

TBH I feel that using a MBP on the go (for me) will be the same as owning an entry-level Microsoft Surface Go. I'd plug it into a projector/TV and present, take notes or reply to e-mails - so lightweight stuff. Much less video editing - this is the main reason why I want to switch from PC to Mac. And I need lots of RAM for the analytical tools I work with.
And for that reason, the 0.5kg diff would make a huge difference.
And I cannot foresee using the 16" screen on my desk as I plan to plug in a 49" ultrawide and a 24" 4k screen.

So your comments were spot on and reassured me that 14" should be the one for me. Now I just need t wait for another lot to drop (fingers cross they will)
