        • haha - I'm dead over this comment!

My context of not worth the time is in the sense of stocking up 100-200+ of $100 cards. If you factor in opportunity cost (5.5% interest rate on savings a/c), scheme owner's credit risk, hacking risk, value of your time in handling all these cards, etc

Having said that - restock this morning only had $100s in there…ah well.

          • +1

@nsingh21: I'd say its worth it for anything you KNOW is coming up in the next few months - but yes agree, wouldn't try purchase a year's worth of spending.

For me the vast majority has been going towards ATO debt or rent anyway so I use up the cards as soon as I get home, but prepaying June/July/August expenses

            • +1

@Shadowsfury: and don't forget Sept 😉…we might be dry on these until after Sept.

  • Picked up 5 x $100 yesterday and 3 x $100 (all they had at this store) tonight

Tomorrow morning will try my local again and hope they've restock the $250s - if not I will load up on $100 ones and be done with the offer until next time.

  • Is there any option to pay the AAMI car insurabce using these cards. How to do split payment using gift cards

    • Instore at an Australia Post Shop / LPO via Post Billpay could be an option.

      Keep in mind:

      • Some billers do not accept Mastercard payments through Post Billpay. I believe AAMI should accept Mastercard payments, but do not quote me on that, because it has been a long time since I have paid for an AAMI policy at Australia Post.

      • You need to be clear to staff that you are wanting to use Mastercards, because apparently staff can choose between eftpos and Visa/Mastercard on their terminal.

      • Some Australia Post staff either will not let you split payments across multiple cards or will not know how to do that.

      • Some Australia Post staff will not let you use prepaid gift cards as a payment method.

      • +1

I have tried to ask for Visa but swiped a Mastercard and vice versa, both worked fine. They do ask if you want to use Visa or Mastercards if you just say credit, so I assume they are listed as separate options on their screen but pretty much do the same thing.

However if you ask for eftpos savings/cheque and tap your card, it will only give you the eftpos options but not credit.

      • +1

        Thanks @WookieMonster
Called AAMI and they happily agreed to split the payment and take it on an automated line . Paid the new premium using 4*250 gc plus remaining on the current card

        Good savings overall

  • are you able to split payment for buying these cards at self checkout?

  • +1

plenty of $100 left at melb central
called 10 stores today and none had any $250s

went to richmond, glenferrie rd (hawthorn went x 3 times), elizabeth st, camberwell

All had none since wed afternoon!

    • Might need to try Shepparton

    • I did 4x flybuys accounts (myself, wife, parents) on Wed. Thursday went to 5-6 different Coles only 1 had $250s. Figured low stock or everyone's hunting for it now or both. Couldnt be bothered Fri-Sat. Only went to 2 Coles each day near me walking distance and bought $100 cards.

    • Went Cole’s Mc Wednesday morning at 10 and surprised they had it. The next person was also buying them. Should have got more!!

  • +1

Plenty of $100 cards available in Spencer St Coles currently. $250 cards not available.

  • Went to the local again this morning, still heaps of 100s. Went to purchase 10 (5 on wifes account) and the women on the checkout who I haven't seen there the last week told me she is only allowed to sell me 5. I said I wanted to do 10 on 2 separate transactions and she said she can't do that. I told her I've been doing it all week without issue and she told me they shouldn't have been doing that for me, it's against the policy and she could lose her job over it as it was to prevent people being scammed. She double checked with the manager and confirmed she can only sell me 5.

Is what it is, the staff are always so inconsistent with how they manage these promotions.

    • +4

The losing her job feels like she's putting a bit of mayo on it but if other staff have been flouting the policy to your benefit you can't be too upset when someone actually enforces the rules as they're declared.

      • +1

Yeah I didn't really argue with her, she had made up her mind, I just hope she doesn't raise this up the chain to force other staff to follow the policy. She actually said it's illegal as its an Australian government law….. as I said I just let it go, will go back later and get the other 5.

        • +1

I had a staff member tell me this a few years ago. They must get it from somewhere. I politely asked them to show me where it says that. 3 staff members were surrounding me, including the security officer, while they told me this. I am a 66-year-old female. This deal brings out the worst in Coles staff, usually older females.

        • +3

It's not illegal in any way, it's just their corporate policy. Which is 5 per customer. You are technically allowed to buy 5 on your flybuys account and 5 on your wife's but I can see how some staff would be a bit sketchy about that as you are the only customer in-store in front of them as such and you have bought 10. But nobody is going to lose their job, nobody is going to jail.

If you're at all bothered just escalate to the Store Manager and they can make the call to go either way as it 100% their call to make.

        • +1

using your logic, you could bring unlimited flybuys cards and buy as many as you want.

          • @Savas: What terms and conditions of this deal prevent that?

  • +1

Swung past my local as well and also had heaps of $100s left - clearly people don't think its worth it (I do)

Guess will do one final run tomorrow morning before the offer ends

  • +2

For anyone in the ACT, Coles Gungahlin has hundreds $250 and $100 cards left as of an hour ago.

  • doe anyone have a history of which months the past couple of years these have been occurring?

  • Has anyone tried using these to make one off payments with rental rewards?

  • +1

Hey guys, something strange is happening with one of my cards. It says the card has already been linked to a PayPal account, but when I checked the balance, it says the card still has $100 balance.

Anyone knows what could likely be happening and how can I fix this? Thanks.

    • +4

I had similar issue before. I used that card straight away.

    • +2

It's been covered in the previous 10% MC threads, have a read of them. Or just wait for Wookiemonster to reply haha.

      • +2

It’s really time consuming to have to go through every single comment on multiple previous posts. @scotty and OzB mods should consider integrating ChatGPT into OzB for an easier question and answer experience haha.

      • +6

Wookie has the patience of a saint.

        • +5

I vote WM for Prime Minister.

    • +3

I have four theories on what is going on, but don’t ask me which one is the most plausible:

      1. Someone has already linked your Coles Mastercard gift card to your account. (Yikes, if true.)

      2. Someone previously linked a different card from a different issuer with the exact same card number as your Coles Mastercard gift card to their PayPal account. The BIN for Coles Mastercard gift cards was used by another financial institution (in the US, I think) before InComm started using it.

      3. There is some weird bug within PayPal’s systems that is causing it to think that your card has been linked to another anccount, even though it is not.

      4. It could be that PayPal thinks you have linked too many cards to your account recently and this is the way they are trying to stop you.

      • +1

        Thanks mate.

Point 2 - Would be scary if same card details were already previously used.

Point 4 - I managed to link further cards into my PayPal account.

        • +1

Point 2 is not particularly scary in my eyes, because it simply means that your card number was previously used by a different issuer with a different expiry date and different CVN, but that particular card (not your card) is probably still linked to someone else’s PayPal account.

It is bound to happen if BINs are recycled (and they do), because there are only so many unique card numbers available for a particular BIN.

  • I did 1 final run in melb south eastern suburbs. Nothing.

  • Have people had any luck in overpaying their ATO tax debt and getting the overpaid amount as a refund?

  • Guys, I know that a single mobile number can have multiple flybuys cards. When I tried to use a newly registered flybuys card to make a purchase, why didn't I receive any discounts? Is it because other flybuys cards under the same mobile number have already used that discount today?

    • +1

It can take up to 48 hours for the card to be fully activated.

  • Thought this promo would now go to other states, but looks like they miss out completely

    • I seem to recall previous split promotions were more than a week between States?

  • Found a bunch at coles bondi junction, bought 10,can check to see if available

    • 250's?

      • +1

        Yes

      • Not the Westfield one,the other coles

        • yep got it, this was how long ago?

  • -2

Just got another 5 from my fav rich suburb coles

They seem to have quite a stack

    • Which coles

      • Think his scalping it all , so wouldn’t bother trying going there lol

        • -2

Found another 2 ozbargainers there when i bought. So a few more people know about the store. No one will be willing to share cause if the word goes out, everyone will line there next time

      • +1

When someone mentions they have found a stack at their local, they will never ever mention the exact source.
Otherwise, all the OzBargainers will rush over there. ;-)

        • But this guy usually brodens all the cards
          So no point

  • +1

Picked up 5 in the morning at my local (Oakleigh)

Walked past MC at lunchtime but they were all sold out.

Unless Oakleigh still has a few on the way home tonight that's it for me.

    • I opened the rack door in two stores. There are hundreds of boxed $100s in it, but no $250s. You may try your luck to find if any left unboxed or undisplayed.

      • Customers can open rack doors?

        • +1

They are not locked, you certainly "can" open them. Some team members who are underworked might get upset if they saw you doing that but most don't care.

  • Can these be used in most stores (e.g Coles/Woolies) to buy non giftcard items?

  • +3

Was at a Coles store today which I am aware doesn’t have the $250 one in stock anymore for the past few days now. There was this lady at the self-checkout scanning 5 (or 4) packs of the $250 ones and triggered the $1000 limit needing supervisor approval. Supervisor came over and denied her the purchase. Llikely because the supervisor was aware the store didn’t have the $250 ones anymore as I had just spoken to the supervisor.

If you are reading this, you know who you are. It’s not right stealing or taking the cards even though they aren’t activated yet. You are still stealing the physical cards and all the work required in generating the card details for the card.

  • trying to purchase a wish gift card online but it keeps saying payment is unsuccessful.

has anyone tried purchasing from wish and been successful?

    • Is this through the Woolworths Group gift card portal?

If so, that portal refuses to process any payments directly from Coles Mastercard gift cards, because they officially do not allow prepaid cards to be used as a payment method. Most prepaid cards actually will slip through, but not Coles Mastercard gift cards (nor Vanilla Visa gift cards). Having said that, if you link a Coles Mastercard gift card to PayPal and then use PayPal as the payment method, you should be fine.

  • My local has restocked $250s this arvo

    • +2

      Which store please?

      • +4

If their username is a clue, I would say Doncaster. :-P

        • Donvale

  • +4

    Great promo. 2 Flybuys x 5 x $250 x 7 = $1,300 profit

    Looking forward to next time.

  • Found myself in Coffs Harbour for work the last couple of days so took advantage and grabbed a few cards across the couple of days.

  • Can't seem to check card balances for the last few days - either get an error or it continually asks for captcha solving again and again

Anyone else have same issue? Have tried different days, different devices, different locations (home and out and work to get different IPs)

Just want to go through my haul and ensure they are all empty

    • No checked a few last night at about 10pm everything worked fine.

  • +4

Cannot add card to PayPal. Anyone facing same issue?

    • Me too

    • Yep.. not working on Paypal for me either.. worked fine last Friday.

    • Not working for me also. Worked fine last night.

    • +3

Blocked here aswell. Might be time for another mass organised AFCA complaint. They can't advertise this as use anywhere Mastercard is accepted, and the day after the sale block it. Thats illegal and foul practice.

      • Its PayPal blocking you from adding multiple prepaid cards. You cannot be repeatedly adding and removing multiple prepaid cards via PayPal.

        • If Paypal blocks your account from adding any more prepaid cards, do you think they can remove the block if you call to request it?

          • +1

@lito: @lito - ideally they can but it depends on their own policies and the risk that they see. Alternatively, did you check with the service number on the gift card and if they're seeing an attempted charge come through?

No attempted charge - PayPal is blocking your use of prepaid cards
Attempted charge showing to service staff - means the bank/scheme owner is blocking it, but if this was the case, then all cards would have been blocked!

    • Me too. I added cards successfully yesterday but can't do any today. I keep getting "Your card has been declined by your card provider. Try a different card or contact your card provider".

    • +1

Yes had the issue since last night and still today. Previously no issues at all

    • +2

      It's been ozbargained.

      • PayPal has been stuffed up by 5109820.

    • can't add them to paypal now…. tried on 2 accounts getting same error. Lucky I only have 4 cards left and can just burn it all on utilities if paypal doesn't work anymore.

  • Is there an outage with the $100 cards or something? Successfully used 1 this morning at Woolworths before the rest got declined - The $250 cards still worked. The balance check website is giving an error for the $100 cards (was fine a few days ago) - still seems to work fine for $250.

    • Firstly, what was the decline code you got at Woolworths? If you still have the decline receipt(s), it will have a two digit number to the right of Declined (e.g. 04, 05, 12). The two digit number would give a clue as to the reason the transaction was declined.

Secondly, what happens when you call the phone number on the back of the gift card and attempt to check the balance over the phone?

      • If you are told that there is an issue with your gift card, it is a strong indicator that your gift card has been blocked.

      • If you can hear the balance, it means that your gift card should not be blocked and there is some other issue at play (e.g. Woolworths was unable to contact Heritage Bank / InComm before the payment request timed out).

Btw I do not have any $100s on hand to test at a merchant, because I have not purchased any $100s for a couple of months now and I have used up all my existing $100s.

      • +2

Thanks Wookie. Could only get the balance of the one card that worked - So the rest must’ve been blocked somehow. Had to call them to unblock - They just explained that it happens sometimes as a security measure.

These cards are certainly not worth the stress for me…

        • More and more places can no longer be able to use these cards, my post office is not accept them any more

          • @jowu15: Just generally wont accept? For certain bills?

            • @King Tightarse: It was not even paying a bill but for passport photos and later passport renewal fees.

          • @jowu15: They dont physically work at the terminal or they see the card and day they don't accept them?
