  • Wait, i tried to find info but could have missed it. These are for physical purchases as well as digital…. right?

    • +2

Yes, you can use physical Coles Mastercard gift cards for both card-present and card-not-present transactions, as long as:

      • The merchant accepts prepaid Mastercard gift cards as a payment method, and

      • For card-present transactions, the merchant accepts swipe payments. For example, I was at a cafe earlier this week where they only accepted contactless payments… which means this prepaid gift card would not be accepted.

  • +2

Found a way to keep looping back the money but I wonder if it is legal or I will get banned from different platforms at some point

    1. Buy a gift card (7.45% discount) with a cashback/rewards card (e.g. 3% crypto spend card, 4% wirex elite plan), also 0.5% back in flybuys point
    2. Use your family's Paypal to send money via 'for goods and services to your PayPal (2.60% + $0.3 fee)
    3. withdraw the money to your bank account or back to your card (1% fee)
    4. About 7.3% profit

For 1x $250 gift card, you pay $231.3 and earn $6.94 from a cashback card (3%) and $1.16 from flybys point. Cost = $223.2
$250 gift card will become $243.2 in your Paypal account = $20 profit (8.32% profit)
    $240.77 when back into your bank/card = $17.57 profit (7.3% profit).
    Buying another card cost $231.3, which means $240.77 - $231.3 = $9.47 left over.
    So 2nd card will earn you $17.57 + $17.57 + $9.47 profit?

if you eliminate the cashback/rewards card and flybuys bonus,
    $11.9 profit (4.9% profit).
    $9.47 profit (4% profit).

    Anyone want to risk it?

    • +2

good idea, but the assumption is you can purchase so many cards in the promotion…. and your personal time… (may be u will get more from airtasker)

    • wait …

      1. buy $250 card for $231.3
      2. send money using this card from 1 paypal to another at fees of 2.6%+0.3 so you can send = $243.2
      3. take money back to your bank account at 1% fee = $240.768

so you pay $231.3 and get $240.768 so profit is around $9.47 per card so 10 card means $94.7 and risk is big if paypal ban your card or ato caught you or something else that we haven't thought about it but coles employee now reading this and going to report it to win $1000 worth grocery as honest employee .. lol :D

      • Coles employee won't get the $1000 for reporting it. They won't even get $5.

Coles will pocket the lot and everyone will be poorer for it.

    • You'll get away with a small amount using that method. Most other methods are either too time consuming or tie up too much money.

    • Goods&services? You know that attracts taxes right? Paypal will automatically report to ATO if you get 12000/FY I think.

    • Wirex Elite is 2%, not 4%?

    • i used Zip & AMEX instead, cos i can payoff Zip with my cryptocom card

    • +1

best way is you deposit it to sportsbet and another betting agency, pointsbet, ned, etc, then lay bet on both sides of a game with each betting site and then once the event finishes, your money will have turned over and you can then withdraw to which ever bank you want. Usually I find you will lose 2-3% depending on the spread of the odds but similar to paypal method but you don't have to do 1 $250 at a time.

  • +3

i'd be happy to buy a lot more if i don't have to worry about getting hacked and need to spend asap.

    • +1

Exactly - these are best for immediate consumption.

  • I hope SA is soon, I got my council rates due soon 🤣

  • -2

I wonder why a nationwide retailer is limiting this offer to certain states. Yes I know there is a paltry other offer, but why be discriminatory with this?
Might have been enough to lure me back to Coles, now just another reason to stay away.

    • +3

Other states will follow after these ones… same with the last time promo was around, each state was on a different week

  • Anyone know if Bupa online takes these cards?

    • +1

yes done once. but be aware it said "one off payment won't change scheduled direct debit".

      • Thanks. Yes, it's a pain to have to change the direct debit date when you make a one-off payment. Fortunately pretty easy to do via Whatsapp.

  • Do these have cvc/cvn for online payments?

  • Do you guys think the deal will come to other states in the following weeks

    • +1

I'd say so. Looks like the registered FlyBuys is going to be a permanent thing, and splitting up the regions.

  • -1

My Flybuys Card is expired. Would it be easy to become a fully registered member again and get this offer?

    • +1

      How did it expire?

  • If visiting NSW to buy these will it work?

    • -3

No, you must scan your residential ID as well.

      • What? No anal probe? Damn foreigners coming into NSW to buy our prepaid cards. BUILD THE WALL! And <insert Poor Ass's state> will pay for it.

  • this is perfect timing.
Can't find any $100 ultimate card anywhere
Hopefully I can get 5 of these next Wed morning

How to buy Coles discount gift card using this card?

After Woolworths removing online 10% discount we are now moving back to Coles but not sure how can we buy Coles discount gifts card… !

    • +2

It is quite difficult to get your hands on discounted Coles gift cards these days when compared with discounted Woolworths/WISH gift cards, and that probably has something to do with the fact that a lot of people were using discounted Coles gift cards to purchase third-party gift cards at Coles (before Coles shut that loophole down in April 2023).

In terms of discounted gift card portals I know of:

      • Lifestyle Rewards portals (e.g. HCF Thank You, Lumo Rewards) will let you use Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method. At least for HCF Thank You, I can see it is being sold at a 3% discount, with only $100 gift cards available and a $200 weekly purchase limit.

      • Reward Gateway portals (which are typically available through employers, as well as API) will not accept physical Coles Mastercard gift cards (at least when I have tried in the past), because they cannot get past the 3-D Secure check. If they could, Coles gift cards are sold at a 4% discount, but there is a $100 weekly purchase limit.

      • Bupa Life Rewards will not accept Coles Mastercard gift cards, because Coles Mastercard gift cards are prepaid Mastercard gift cards, and EonX - which powers the gift card portal - blocks all prepaid cards (even prepaid cards that support 3-D Secure).

      • Shopback should accept Coles Mastercard gift cards, which means you can purchase the Shopback Super Swap gift card (which contains Coles gift cards) at 2% cashback.

      • Prezzee may or may not block Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method on their website, although the workaround is to link the Coles Mastercard gift card to a PayPal account and then use PayPal as a payment method on Prezzee. This is useful to know the next time Prezzee runs a bonus gift card promotion.

I hope you realise Coles gift cards are not redeemable on Coles Online. I thought I put that out there just in case you were not already aware, especially since you say the removal of a discount for online shopping is prompting you to jump ship…

      • +2

        Thanks for details.. !

We stopped shopping at Coles and aldi after Woolworths started 10% discount with mobile plan….so basically getting twice monthly discount at Woolworths for 10% plus 4% discount on Woolworths gift card that I send to buy using this MasterCard that we can buy at 7.5% discount so it was good deal but now Woolworths stopped online discount plus mobile plan and reward membership cost also gone up so not worth what it used to be … So moving back to aldi and Coles … !

Will try shopback for Coles gift card as last time I used HCF they blocked my card…. !

        • +1

Right, that makes more sense. I personally shop wherever is cheaper and has better quality produce, so I am not wedded to one particular store, but that is me…

HCF Thank You has only blocked my account when I attempted to make three different gift card purchases using three different prepaid gift cards within the space of a week. I called up Lifestyle Rewards for help, and the customer service rep was happy enough to unblock my account.

Was it your financial institution blocking your card after using it on HCF Thank You, or was it HCF Thank You blacklisting your card? Those are two different things, and I have not had problems using Westpac or AMEX credit cards on HCF Thank You (and I made a lot of gift card purchases last year).

          • +1

@WookieMonster: It was HCF who blocked my account so basically they took the payment from gift card and then blocked account so I called them and they reinstated my account and also refunded money after 3 days so not worth try again.. !

            • @SydBoy: isn't HCF thank you has some surcharge on buying cards?

              • @s0805: HCF Thank You axed their 1% payment surcharge a few months ago… and also reduced the discount on all gift cards by 1% at the same time, which effectively meant that the cost of a gift card went up when this change happened (only by a few cents, but still…)

        • personally i only physically shop instore at aldi.
online pickup for ColesWorth with 1/2 price catalogue

  • Do these have any limitations in using them? Ie. Can i buy them to buy shopback superswap giftcard for example?
I don't quite understand what ppl is saying about online only vs in store

    • +3

Do these have any limitations in using them?

There are a few limitations, including:

      • You cannot use these Coles Mastercard gift cards in transactions where you can obtain cash (e.g. use at an ATM).

      • You cannot use Coles Mastercard gift cards at automated fuel dispensers (i.e. fuel stations where you pay at the pump, which should include Costco).

      • You cannot use Coles Mastercard gift cards for card-present transactions where the merchant does not accept swipe payments from Mastercards. For example, I was at a cafe last week where they only accepted contactless payments, which meant that Coles Mastercard gift cards were unusable.

      • You cannot use Coles Mastercard gift cards at merchants that choose to not accept them. Coles Mastercard gift cards are prepaid Mastercard gift cards that have no verified cardholder associated with them and lack security features found on a lot of debit and credit cards (e.g. 3-D Secure), so merchants choosing to accept them would also have to accept the increased risk of being exposed to fraudulent transactions. For example, Woolworths Group's gift card portal has chosen to block payments from Coles Mastercard gift cards (although you can get around this by linking your Coles Mastercard gift card to a PayPal account and then checking out using PayPal). In terms of Shopback, it should be okay to use on there.

I don't quite understand what ppl is saying about online only vs in store

There are two types of Coles Mastercard gift cards:

      • The physical gift cards sold at Coles (i.e. the one in this deal). This can be used for both card-present and card-not-present transactions.

      • The digital gift card sold at Coles Group's online gift card portal (i.e. the one sold in a popular deal recently). This can only be used for card-not-present transactions (hence the talk about "online only" for the digital gift cards, even though strictly speaking "online only" is a misnomer).

  • If anyone is not using their Flybuys card then please DM me your ID number as I need a few more Flybuys accounts. I'll be able to collect points for you. Thanks!

      • +1

        It does accrue points.

      • +2

Purchases of gift cards issued by Coles Group at Coles do not earn any Flybuys points.

Purchases of third-party gift cards at Coles do earn standard Flybuys points. The gift cards in this deal are classified by Coles as third-party gift cards, because they are issued by Heritage Bank on behalf of InComm. However, purchases of third-party gift cards at Coles only count towards bonus Flybuys points offers if there is a specific deal advertising you will earn bonus Flybuys points.

  • I read somewhere that sniip allows you to use these prepaid cards. Does anyone know if Yakpay also allows this? Then you could directly make EFT payments to a 'supplier'.

    • +4

Sniip will only let you use Coles Mastercard gift cards with billers that accept prepaid cards as a funding source. For example, if you try to use a Coles Mastercard gift card on Sniip to send a payment to the ATO, you will get a message saying:

This biller does not accept this payment method.

Additionally, Sniip does not allow you to send BPAY payments to a handful of BPAY billers (e.g. Qantas Travel Money prepaid card).

I have no idea about Yakpay, as I do not have an ABN, so I cannot help you there!

      • i was able to use the digital master card at ATO website. Is your comment specific to physical mastercards?

        • I was talking about sending payments from Coles Mastercard gift cards to the ATO via Sniip.

You are talking about sending payments from Coles Mastercard gift cards to the ATO via the ATO website (or Government EasyPay). Paying via the ATO website or Government EasyPay does not involve Sniip.

    • FIRST TIME I HEARD OF "YAKPAY

  • +1

Can we split into $99 transactions for the HSBC 2% Cashback ?

    • +6

It depends on the type of checkout you go to:

      • Self checkouts: the only type of split payments you can do when purchasing a gift card is cash + one EFT payment. You must select cash from the payment screen, insert the exact amount of cash you want to pay, go back to the payment screen and select card, where you can pay the remaining amount owed on the one EFT payment (which would include a debit card). If you instead select Mixed Payment, you will be greeted with an error message telling you to go to the service desk to complete the purchase.

      • Standard checkouts: you can request to do split payments at any checkout operated by a dedicated person, but this is only allowed at the discretion of the person operating the checkout. In my experience, I only one staff member has refused my request for split payments, but the service supervisor - who I get along with very well - overruled the staff member and instructed them to allow me to do split payments! I will also note that not all staff members know how to do split payments, so you may need to be patient whilst they figure it out or call for someone more experienced to help them.

      • +1

        Hi WookieMonster.
Do you know if there is supposed to be any EFTPOS gift card deal coming up?

        • +3

I am not aware of any such deals coming up.

The only current eftpos gift card deals I can think of that are:

  • I need to buy something from JB-HIFI about $1500, what's the best way to use these coles master cards?
Am I able to buy JBHIFI gift cards with these master cards?

    • +4

what's the best way to use these coles master cards?

The easiest way is to use them is for an instore purchase, as JB Hi-Fi will let you use multiple Mastercards in one instore transaction (as long as you tell staff you want to use cards as a payment method).

The problem is that if you instead try to purchase from the JB Hi-Fi online store, you will quickly find that you can only use one Mastercard per online transaction, because JB Hi-Fi’s website cannot handle split payments between multiple Mastercards.

Am I able to buy JBHIFI gift cards with these master cards?

You could do this in a few ways:

      1. Purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website and entering the Coles Mastercard gift card’s details (16-digit card number, expiry date, CVC2) into the credit/debit card section of the online checkout.

      2. Go to a physical JB Hi-Fi store and purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using the Coles Mastercard gift card as a payment method.

      3. Purchase a (discounted) JB Hi-Fi gift card from a third-party gift card portal that accepts Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method (e.g. Prezzee, Shopback, Cashrewards, HCF Thank You, Lumo Rewards).

There are five main issues with trying to do this:

      1. JB Hi-Fi may cancel online orders for JB Hi-Fi gift cards paid using a Coles Mastercard gift card, due to Riskified - a third-party tool used on JB Hi-Fi’s online store to determine whether a transaction is likely to be fraudulent - flagging such a purchase as being potentially fraudulent.

      2. If JB Hi-Fi does not cancel an order for a JB Hi-Fi gift card paid using a Coles Mastercard gift card, it will only permit a maximum of two orders of JB Hi-Fi gift cards per calendar day. Any attempts to purchase more JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the same calendar day will be unsuccessful.

      3. JB Hi-Fi staff at a physical JB Hi-Fi store may stop you from purchasing a JB Hi-Fi gift card using a Coles Mastercard gift card if they realise that a prepaid gift card is being used as a payment method. (Some JB Hi-Fi staff really don’t like customers using gift cards to purchase gift cards.)

      4. Not all (discounted) gift card portals will accept Coles Mastercard gift cards, due to Coles Mastercard gift cards not being tied to a verified cardholder and missing security features usually found on debit and credit cards (e.g. 3-D Secure).

      5. (Discounted) gift card portals usually implement restrictions on the number of gift cards you can purchase in a short space of time using different cards (especially prepaid gift cards). This is usually done as due to fraud prevention, and exceeding these limits may see you temporarily blocked from making more purchases. For example, HCF Thank You blocked my account after I tried to make three separate purchases of gift cards using three different prepaid gift cards in the space of a week.

Btw, the current instore gift card deal at Coles may be better suited for you, because:

      • Coles Mastercard gift cards can be quite hard to find in stock during these deals (depending on the stores you go to and how they handle these promotions), and

      • Ultimate gift cards are being sold at a higher effective discount than the Coles Mastercard gift cards in this deal, and

      • (At least for me) $100 Ultimate Home gift cards have been really easy to find.

      • Hi mate, do you think this deal will come to other states in the following weeks

        • +1

          I reckon so.

I mean, these deals are a good way for Coles to boost their sales figures, especially with EOFY fast approaching… that, plus it gets people into the supermarket.

  • +1

Anyone know if paying by flybuys dollars is allowed?

    • +1

That should be blocked, as you should get an Invalid Product Mix error as soon as you swipe the Flybuys card through the EFTPOS terminal.

  • +3

To all melbourne people, there are over 500 $250 giftcard in stock, in Melbourne central coles, right now

    • +4

To confess, I hid 10 of them for personal use. Only 10 🫢

      • i couldve hid some

but 4 stores on a roundtrip should do it

    • u counted ?

      • Each stack is at least 20 cards thick, and there are more than 25 stacks when i was there at 9am

    • -1

Deal hasn't even started. Your comment might make some panic/FOMO to buy now and realise no 10% off after paying.

      • +2

I'm sharing this as people are complaining that gift card stocks are already gone before the start date.

But youre right it might be more appropriate for this comment to appear tomorrow 🙂

        • Sharing is caring! Kididng…but thanks…if I was in the area Id definately use t h a t info ;) sadly my local store today has none…(again)…

  • Where’s the best place to buy Amazon gift cards with this card?

  • can any BNPL (such as Zip pay) be used to checkout?

    • +2

i've used zip via apple pay before, so yes.

      • I could buy 4 on my 1k credit limit
Trying to upgrade to 2k Max limit

  • With a full page catalogue ad, I doubt that this offer will go under the radar of many shoppers. Let's hope that the activation system doesn't crash from overload!

    • With only three states/territories involved in this deal and a hard limit per registered Flybuys account, I think the activation servers will be fine this time…

It probably will not be like the last 10% off Coles Gift Mastercard deal (the one issued by Indue) where there were activation delays of between 30 minutes and 4 hours, and things got so bad that the Coles Gift Mastercard phone line had to include an automated message at the start of each phone call to tell callers they were expecting activation delays and to be patient.

  • Its a greal deal but…..These deals work out great for me as I can pay my rent by card….but sadly the physical cards are hard to get at my local Coles (Canberra Manuka). I had a look today on.my way home and there were none on display…and the spot where they usually wou l d be were filled with another product…I hope they bring the digital discount back! Good luck with your hunt folks! I hope y o u bag a winning bargain! :)

    • How do you pay rent with coles mastercard?

  • +1

Do people really turn up at the store at opening for these things?

    • +1

I used to do that back when Coles Gift Mastercards, Coles Mastercard gift cards and Vanilla Visa gift cards could be purchased at a discount without a registered Flybuys account. I no longer bother, because stock shortages are not as acute as they used to be.

If there is another 15% off Ultimate gift card deal at Coles, I may turn up at opening time again and join in the fun…

  • Just wondering what do you guys use these discounted cards for? Grocery shopping at coles? Don’t you suppose to buy in large amount so the 10% is worth more?

    • +4

      Here are some suggestions:

      • Paying off ATO debts (e.g. voluntary HELP loan repayments)

      • Prepaying or paying off utilities accounts, health insurance, car insurance, car registration, council rates, etc

      • Purchasing other gift cards, especially when they are on discount or come with a bonus (e.g. Coles Group & Myer,1 WISH, Apple, Ultimate, TCN)

      • Using it for most everyday purchases in lieu of a debit/credit Mastercard or Visa (e.g. restaurants, hairdressers, parking, clothing, at merchants where I would normally not have discounted gift cards on hand).

      1. You cannot do this at Coles, as Coles' payment processor automatically blocks you from using a Coles Mastercard gift card to pay for a Coles Group & Myer gift card.

  • -1

Can we still use these Coles Mastercard to buy the Perfect EFTPOS Gift Cards from Woolworths by split payments? I could do this a couple of months ago, not sure about the situation now.

    • No you can’t not

  • Edit to the below, just found this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/710902

I'm leaving my question below though as a quick reference for anyone else that's wondering:

"Sorry for the noob question; I've noticed others saying they use these to top up council rates & utilities etc, but does anyone know if you can use these to pay a bill that's more than the value of 1 card, in one transaction?

I'm thinking specifically of using it at Vicroads. Eg the bill is $500 but the max on one of these cards is $250, does the website allow entering 2 cards on the one transaction, making a split payment? Or is it a case of walking into Vicroads/Auspost and using the 2 cards to pay?

From the last deal I used these cards through Paypal but I noticed Paypal doesn't allow using more than one card for one transaction (had to have a cash balance to do a split payment)."

    • @vicroads, I have made purchase over the phone for ~$497, split with 2 x $250 cards. they do allow.

      • Paying over the phone, vicroads will have transaction fees though

    • So I just paid my bill in person. Unlike previously reported here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/710902 they did charge me a card fee ($1.34 per card). It wasn't working and they kept saying I needed a PIN, but they worked out the problem actually was that they were entering the amount to be paid as $250, then adding the card fee on top so it was trying to charge each card $251.34 and kept declining. Once they worked it out, went through fine.

Got to my local Coles at opening this morning and no stock on shelf. So pissed that people clearly hide them in store

  • Went to two local stores, none on shelf. This is ridiculous.

  • No stock at 7:00am…

  • +1

Its been ozbargained in randwick coles,im glad that i arrived at 6:15 and got 5

  • +1

Same here. There were a few $100s lying on the floor but everyone who got there just walked past it as if it was nothing 😂 (myself included)

Guess stocks will trickle in over the day

  • Sigh….. none at my local
