This is similar to what I use 90% of the time when I cook, regardless of cuisine. Idk about the steel grade or whether it's good, but it's probably better that what I've been using most of my life where they don't even tell you the type of steel. And the price is not bad.

8" is OOS Out of stock

Here is a smaller, lighter one for beginners $26.92.

Sorry just saw that there's a coupon. All good now. Many thanks.

  • +4

    That's not a cleaver… that's a cleaver. Passes the cleaver test.

  • +1

I have a similar one and that's pretty much the only knife I use for food prep. This is tempting.

  • +1

    One review said it rusts.

  • +2

80Cr13 is definitely better than what you get from the cheap knives at kmart and such.
I forgot what the cheap ones use, but its worse than 4Cr13. Though, what they use is basically bottom of the barrel so not exactly hard to beat

    • +1

Bought 1 piece of 9-inch from here

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Professional-Stainless-Vegetable-N…

Not sure, guess that is the 80Cr13.

TBH it's a bit large for my hand, but after days operating, I like it, still in everyday use.

Someone may try the 8-inch one

      • +1

That is the F208-1 and is indeed 80cr13
The F208-2 is the 8 inch version of the one you got, if you decide you want a smaller one :)

I have been using their vegetable (all purpose) cleaver for 3 years and can verify that the sharpness pretty much stays the same.
Just need honing rod and it should keep you going for a long time.
This is their bone chopping cleaver so it won't chip when you chop bone but it will be quite a bit heavier than the all purpose one

    • +2

      This is my all-purpose one

      • +4

yeah depends on the user. My gf found my vegetable cleaver heavy when it's almost half the weight of this one. Had to get a 100g santoku to keep the missus happy

        • +2

I have a few Santokus, they're my second favourite knife

          • +1

@rosebank: I bought my first Santoku knife about a year ago, I don't know how I got through life without one before it (although I wish I read more reviews, handle doesn't feel particularly nice). Time to get a cleaver, I guess, if it's even better!

            • @freefall101: Cleaver is a steeper learning curve than a santoku, but stick with it and once you get it, it's very rewarding. Then you can get rid of most of your knives.

        • -2

so the gf is the mistress? ;)

  • +2

Unnecessarily heavy to be used for everyday cooking! Chopping only

    • Not really

    • +2

No really, different muscle does different job

    • +3

This is the style of knife almost exclusively used in Chinese kitchens. It is more versatile than people think as it can chop, cut, mince, pound, dice, etc. It can be used for bones and hard vegetables, but is still sharp enough for delicate cuts on soft vegetables or raw meat. It is great for picking up and transferring what you have cut up too.

I have a few CCK cleavers from HK and they are excellent. I still like using other knives too, but you could easily use the cleaver all the time and if you were to only have one knife, it would be a good choice.

      • +1

Yes, cleaver is the GOAT all-purpose knife.

  • +2

    Is this Uncle Roger approved?

    • +2

      Hayaaaaaa…nope

    • Dude is a comedian, maybe take his advice on stand-up if that's what you're into.

he's actually a pretty solid cook, or at least seems to be.

        • -2

Well he can't cook rice without a rice cooker, so I don't rate his credentials highly

  • Is this good for fish as well?
    Thanks

  • Any suggestion on how I can sharpen my knives instead of buying this one?

Keep an eye out for a good deal on this, it's brilliant. Have been using for a while now.

      • Reading the comments about this is a worthwhile exercise

        • +3

I read the comments for years, tried proper sharpening with a stone… Wasn't for me. This thing gets my knife sharp and I'm not gonna lose sleep over it wearing in my cheap bacarat knives over 10 years. It's been great for me.

      • +1

        thanks

    • +1

      whetsone and honing steel

    • As been mentioned, whetstone and honing steel. But in particular a whetstone as that does the actual sharpening. Honestly if you can sharpen properly with a whetstone then your cheapest knife can be sharper than most in people's kitchens.

For the frugal, I bought a $3 small cleaver and a $3 whetstone from Daiso. Took me a few tries but the knife is sharp enough for the paper test. Good enough for me.

Once you chop you can't stop

  • An unknown error has occurred. Please try again later .

    • +1

All g, working now (dispatched 4-5 days)

  • What's better to get, the 7" or 8"? Don't currently have a cleavor and end up using my Global chef's knife for most of my chopping

    • Prob the 7 if you've never used a Chinese cleaver

  • OOS again

  • I see this Chinese Cleaver and automatically think back to Kungfu Hustle 😂

  • +1

Just when you thought you need 12 different knifes in the kitchen.

    • That dude looks like he's using a 10" carbon steel one. But yeah, go into any Chinese kitchen and it's all cleavers. Takes a while to learn but once you get it, it's very rewarding.

    • You are literally the first one I've seen sharing the falungong video site link lol

      • Long time follower of the Taste channel.

        • I see, no dramas. I've been following them on YouTube for a long time as well, good production quality and food

  • Certainly need a heavier one. OOS anyway.

  • Are these good ninja knives ??
    Because . https://youtu.be/6jDHRW6fngg

  • all gone :c

    • That's a weaker, fancier looking one that costs more. The 7" I linked is better but both OOS

      • Superial Material Selection - S339 is made of a sligle piece of high quality purified stainless steel

Look at the picture This doesn't seem like the right description, am I being fooled?

        • i don't know the difference with the steel types, but if you say it's better, sure okay get that one

  • bought a cheaper cleaver and bent when opening coconut shell.. anyone tried using this one?

    • Get a machete

  • +1

This will go well with my new excavator.

  • Damn missed out. Probably stopped an impulse buy anyway

  • This was too small for street fights anyway.

  • Damn, missed out. Really need a few new knives. Was looking at some much more expensive ones this morning - this would have been good to stop me from spending way more. Any other deals going?

  • This or kiwi brand from local asian grocers? kiwi seems to sell for less….

    • Bit late for a reply but might as well share my experience.
I got both the shi ba zi zuo 8'' vegetable cleaver and kiwi cleaver 830
kiwi is lighter and more comfortable in the hand. Really thin blade which gave the illusion that it was sharper at first but shi ba stayed sharp longer.
The added weight of the shi ba made it easier to chop down harder stuffs.

Honestly if you can get it for 15 bucks or less go for it.

  • Jamie Wu needs one to fix Australia’s treatment of international students in Melbourne lol

    Maybe 2 cleavers?

  • Just got an email

"Thank you so much for your order.
We check you pick the seller fulfilled service and the parcel will be shipped from our warehouse in China. However, it will take a long time of shipment and there’s uncertainty of custom clearance.

We are now sending replenishment to warehouse in Australia. It will arrive in Australia in early July. We recommend you cancel the order temporarily. When the replenishment arrives in Australia, we will contact you to replace the order and we will keep the same discount for you. Is it OK for you?

Any news from you will be highly appreciated.

    Best regards
    Anju"

I guess they went out of stock much earlier? I ordered at 10AM.

    • I got that too, and I ordered before I posted. I just told them I'll wait

One of the must have knives in the kitchen. Perfect for squashing garlic cloves amongst others. Been using mine (all the time) for the last ten years or so which I got from a Nando's gift pack. Great stuff and post.

  • +1

    Bah would of liked this

  • +3

The 7" looks just like the one I bought online 2 years ago for $40.

    Solid performer.
Good steel, good size, heavy enough for to my preference.
