    Better than Victorinox?

    • +2

Victorinox is life-threateningly sharp but looks basic. These ones are sufficiently sharp and look fancy. So it's a matter of preference.

Honestly I would be worried to give out the victorinox infinity blade to people that are eating dinner at my house. Strictly a prep/cook knife in my household. look at them the wrong way and you'll lose a limb.

      Not likely.

Imagine wanting to turn up to a knife fight with a Laguiole steak knife.

      • Add Redbank and Yamanto to that list

You people just have to gnaw at your steaks, for the greater good.

        • The greater good.

  • Anyone know how these hold up in the dishwasher?

    • +1

The handles are plastic not wood and the product is marked as dishwasher safe. So I'd be fairly confident.

    • +1

They look exactly like our dishwasher safe ones and I am afraid to say they don't hold up. Expect the rivets to come loose and the fastening brackets to come off along with the scales themselves if you don't fix it up yourself. More trouble than they're worth despite being very charming.
EDIT: Ours are multicoloured French ones from Peters of Kensington I believe.

    • I've been washing the fake wood-look version of these in the dishwasher for at least three years.

3-MONTH MANUFACTURER WARRANTY def fills me with confidence…

    • Serrations are too fine for them to be proper steak knives. I use them as white meat knives.

  • anyone knows hot to check the country of origin? are any of the ones on catch made in France?

    • I've been doing some more reading just now. Laguiole isn't a brand as such, it's the name of a village that originally produced a particular type of folding knife. But it's not a geographic designation like Champagne. The link you posted above is by a brand called "Laguiole by FlyingColors", the one in my OP is by Chateau Laguiole. I'd start by googling Chateau Laguiole. But like I said, 99% certain that these ones aren't gonna be French for $20 in a wooden block.

    • +2

Yeah, a few years back the village sold their "brand" to a chinese company IIRC.
These aren't made in France anymore.

scroll down and at the end of the description it says made in China

Laguiole knives that we've got are somewhat different. Set of 6 in a box and made by G.David. Different wood for each handle (olive, ebony etc). Current similar set is showing at €456.10! Gawd!

    NEVER goes in the dishwasher!
