      • I find optus to be better on highways compared to telstra.

    • +4

I’ve noticed that in every situation I’ve experienced (wife and I had 2 identical handsets one Optus one Telstra due to a port out) travelling together Optus is worse off even in the cbd but atleast there it’s a lot closer. Even driving on the motorway 10mins out of Brisbane for example signal gets spotty. Their coverage map is not a true reflection it’s far worse than that…
Yes this is the east coast but I’ve driven a good 5to 8hrs each direction(except our to sea :P) other states may not be too bad but from my experience it was bad

      • +2

train ride from Brissy to GC has multiple spotty areas where it switches to 3G

    • Optus is much better where I live

    • +1

There's an urban area near me where Telstra does not even work. Optus does.

    • In Metro areas Optus is mostly OK
      Regional is dicey
Generally In both metro and regional areas you are better off with any plan on the Telstra network
      eg Woolworths

    • +1

I think you got the telco names around the wrong way.

In melb metro at least, optus has been way better than telstra. In some shopping centers like highpoint, people cant reach me on my telstra mobile.

  • How is this compared to Kogan mobile? Currently with Boost but with the recent price increase I’d probably have to switch to a cheaper plan soon.

    • 4006 and get better coverage and speeds with kogan actually but ymmv

    • From my experience Kogan coverage is absolutely CRAP! Especially outside major cities
I think they got a very cheap deal from Vodafone with limited coverage
      Anything is better than Kogan
And yes I have found Amaysim is much better than Kogan

What happens if you activate after June 15th?

    • +1

      I’d like to know too?

    • That date is kind of contradictory since ShopBack product page states:

SIM cards must be activated within 30 days of purchase

      • Yeah that is correct and that is to get cashback but this June 15th date is from Amaysim's side and we need to know consequences/risks if not activated by that date

    • You won't get the deal. You'll have a credit for half the full cost of the deal.

  • Damn it. I paid full price for the $200 sim ($35 cashback) AND the $119 sim at Woolies. Both purchased about a week ago. Wifes plan expires in July so I might just port her out early. $65 for 180GB a year is a steal.

    • Comment stated above as the promo code may invalidate cashback. Will be good if GYB can confirm… :')

  • With the $35 cash back - can I buy the “new” sim using my existing Amaysim account and still qualify for the $35 cash back, or do I have to create a brand new account and then buy the new sim?

The T,s and C’s on the ShopBack site seems contradictory.

    Notes
SIM cards must be activated within 30 days of purchase. A valid ID check will be required to complete activation of a new service. Cashback is only applicable for Customers getting a New Service (SIM) & New Sign Ups (New Customers). Excludes taxes, fees or additional extras

    And below it says:

Tips to ensure your Cashback is tracked:
    DOs
~ Cashback is eligible for new and existing amaysim customers purchasing a new SIM and limited to one cashback per month per Shopback account.

    • +5

Yes you can get new sim with existing Amaysim account and qualify for cashback. Done it plenty of times before.

      • Can you buy new SIM with your existing account and then transfer your existing phone number to the new SIM?

  • +1

    Thank you :)

I just bought Amayasim from Woolies, but haven’t opened it, any chance I can return for a refund ?

    • Can't see why not

    • +1

Same boat. It says Non Refundable on my activation receipt :(

    • +2

Went to Woolies to try and get a refund but unfortunately they wouldn’t do it :(

      • Thanks for telling. Was about to walk out the door to try refunding as well.

the only reason i cant have amaysim, Wifi calling. no reception of anything where i live. fk clyde north.

    • I was there for 6 weeks, nothing really worked. Clyde doesnt have enough towers.

    • Wifi calling works for me on Amaysim and iPhone. Says ‘Optus wifi’ for network.

      • i was trying out few telcos and couple of months ago amaysim didnt have the wifi calling, and it doesnt say anything on their website either.

      • i just called them asked about wifi calling, the guy confirmed they have and its recently they added this feature.

    • Amaysim does support vowifi

    • Clyde is no Bonnie.

any long cheap plan if i am going aboard, just so the number doest get cancelled, and i only needs to be able to receive text?
    going to japan and korea.

    • +3

Amaysim pay as you go. $10 last for one year. Just enable roaming then you'd be good to go

      • Thanks so much

    • +1

      Optus Flex
Subscribe for 1 day for $1 then cancel. Number stays active and receives text for 6 months. Charge $1 again in 6 months if still needed.

Can get esim or free physical Sim from https://freesimcards.com.au

      • do optus still sell the $1 flex plan? i think the cheapest they sell now days is $7 for 7 day plan

        • +1

They do, I got it just a few weeks ago. For whatever reason they don't openly advertise it on their website

      • Charged me twice 2x $1 on my last renewal and didn't bother to contact them. Maybe $1 extra for the cancellation?

      • Can you receive phone calls?

        • In Australia yes, I'm not sure about roaming.

    • YMMV, but when I was in Japan last month, I didn't renew my prepaid Boost sim. I was still able to receive text messages (for credit card purchase verification).

    • ALDI 365 day plan is $5, but you need to top up after the first 60 days.

  • Expiry date?

    • +1

Purchase between 12.01am (AEST) on 22 May 2023 to 11.59pm (AEST) on 29 May 2023 and activate by 15 June 2023

      • Cheers

  • Can I enter number X now to complete the order but decide to port in number Y later when I receive the sim?

    • Can you just put in number Y and then only activate/port it once it arrives? I’m in the US for 2 more weeks and that’s what I plan on doing

      • No, Number X is with amaysim now …

      • yes

  • +4

If i'm already with Amaysim due to expire on November this year and renew now do I get 12 Months added?

    • Maybe can if you ask them on chat

    • -1

you might lose your cashback if you add it to your existing plan

    • Just wait for the Black Friday sale. They're the same prices.

  • ShopBack to be qualified

    Notes
SIM cards must be activated within 30 days of purchase

    • How long it will take to show the purchase tracking? Only shows under click activity.

Also I believe soon the ShopBack will update the cashback same as cashrewards.

      • 2 days

  • +1

Mine has been already tracked.. but it's only $10.50 for 60gb..

    • Same for $100 plan

      • Isn't it $35?

        • It only tracked as $10.50.

  • +1

What's the cheapest and easiest way of porting out of Amaysim and then porting back to qualify for this deal and cashback ?

    • +4

Lebara esim , I was out and back in within the hour. Cost was $5.

      • Wow so didn’t have to stay on lebara a few days for Amaysim so consider this a new number again?

      • Excellent thanks for the tips

      • +1

Thanks, just used Lebara esim and took 20mins to port out and buy this Amaysim deal successfully.

        • if my phone doesn't have esim, can i still port out and port back in to buy Amaysim?
do you actually have to active the esim on your phone with Lebara etc?

        • But you don't really have to port out to Lebara prior to your purchase.
If you opted for a physical SIM with Amaysim, you can wait until the new SIM arrives in the mail.
Then port out to Lebara, and then port back onto your new Amaysim SIM right after, right?

          • @DoctorCalculon: You do I think. I tried choosing physical, putting down my current number that was with Amaysim, then choosing my current provider as Lebara (when I was still with Amaysim, prior to porting to Lebara) and it would not let me.

            • +1

              @currentfad: You might be right.

Amaysim are complete bastards. If you choose the option of new number (because you want to defer the number porting after you receive the SIM, i.e. during activation), they still go ahead and pre-activate(*) the SIM before posting it out. No other providers do this (AFAIK).

(*) There is a way to stop SIM pre-activation by paying using PayPal. However, I am not sure if this trick still works to this day.

            • @currentfad: I haven't tried this. What if you use your spare Boost SIM, and specify its number as the porting number? This prevents pre-activation of the SIM.

Then during activation (after you receive the SIM), use your own number which would then be on the Lebara SIM.

    • +2

Lyca is running 28days for $1 Sim deals. I used that to port out and port into the last boost deal. Don't see many other cheaper options than that.

    • Aldi mobile has $5 starter pack with balance.

    • +2

Boost has $15 cashback for their $15 month plan. Net cost is $0.

      • $17.50 cb - $2.50 profit

  • How does it compare to Belong?
I have been using Belong past few years.

    • +1

      Depends on your location.

  • +2

Mine has tracked for the $100 180gb only $10.50

    • Did u go via ShopBack or Cashrewards. Cashrewards is $10.5

      • -1

        Shopback is $10.50 for 100gb

    • Same here. Should it be reported?

  • thanks!

  • +2

    I bought the 150GB/6 Month
Will update if/when the shopback tracks

    • Hasn't tracked yet

    • Tracked at $17.50

  • I'm currently with Amaysim and still have over 6 months left on a yearly plan. I'm in the inner city Melbourne and I find that when using teams in the car, Amaysim often disconnects and I need to airplane mode my phone to reconnect to meetings. Still it's a cheap plan so YMMV.

  • -1

Ugh - I recharged my $120 plan at $90 last week. I will try to see if they'll offer me some money back…can only try.

    • Please let us know the update here.

  • -1

Is that twelve special Amasim "28-day months", or twelve actual real months? 🧐

    • +1

      It's for the whole year

    • +1

366 days - next year is a leap year. :)

  • Good deal, but need to activate by 15-Jun

  • My favourite deals are back but TA needs to work his magic for the $35 CB before it expires on 29th. $10.50 CB is good but I wouldn't say no to $35 CB like last time. IIRC you could get CB per type of sim per month but it's now only 1 sim per month.

  • is it better than Coles mobile in terms of service/ network?
so this deal gets me 180Gb plan for $100 and I recharge after 365 days for $100 (1st recharge). Is that correct?

    • Even it's not better, it's still much cheaper with this deal.

    • Isn't the sign up the "1st" recharge, and after 365 days is the "2nd" recharge?
