Got this last year with the similar Costco deal. Been dealing with nothing but patchy connection, plenty of disconnections, and terrible reception.
Thought it might be my phone (Apple), so I tired it in my work phone (Samsung)… same issue. I can put in my alt sim that's with Catch and not have any issues.

I'm Metro Brisbane, but drive all over. Shitty reception everywhere for me :(

    • Can second this in metro Melbourne. Voice over wifi is the only thing saving the day for me.

I have tried both physical Sim and esim

      • Can third this

        • +2

Can fourth this, vodafone is terrible in Metro WA.

          • @melo4510: Fifth and sixth. Its crappy in Sydney and Camberra.

          • @melo4510: Not sure where you are, but I have no issues north of the river. I find Vodafone better in the train tunnel heading into Perth underground than Telstra is as well.

            • @bonezAU: Vicpark/ Belmont/ Airport area.

            • @bonezAU: Tbh only place where Telstra doesn’t work compared to voda /optus.. except that 2 min of travel it’s crap everywhere in Perth!!

Agree average around Sydney. got no coverage in the centre of Canberra and regional areas was piggy backing of my daughters Coles mobile. I though Vodafone was meant to improve but I will never use them again even at $20 / year with unlimited downloads

    • In their defence, you can’t win in Brisbane. I have cycled between all 3 and can name areas where they all suck, including Telstra. I’m mainly on the south side.

I had the same terrible experience when switching to Vodafone temporarily after my yearly Boost sim expired. Often had people at work calling me and their calls couldn't get through, and then my phone would receive missed call notifications via sms later. The missus got frustrated as she couldn't call through to my number multiple times, and she said it kept ringing but my phone log had no missed call. I then placed our phones next to each other and started calling from the missus phone to my phone. It's ringing and ringing but no call coming through on my phone, and only to receive a missed call notification sms a few minutes later.

As a contractor working on the road, I used my phone extensively to communicate while driving through Sydney metro area. Vodafail stayed true to its root as calls often drop out while driving. So within less than 2wks on Vodafone network with multiple issues, it was enough to motivate me to transfer back to Boost mobile.

  • Does vodafone don’t know or they dont care?

  • Not a fan of Vodafone myself

But if anyone wants to go on the Vodafone network, then this CURRENT deal KOGAN is far better and will ALWAYS be much better upon renewal

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/862315

    • I got that kogan deal - praying I don’t have shit reception in Sydney

      • My experience so far is 😐 I ordered a sim and it’s been 5 days, I understand it’s coming from melb but it shouldn’t take more than 5 days to get something delivered by aus post too 😳

    • +4

Why is Kogan better when the OP's has lower price per GB?

      • Kogan is only better if you don't need as much data

        • +3

Still not seeing the "better" part though.

      • Yeah this deal is better with the 90GB of bonus data… 330GB for $147 versus 300GB for $169 on Kogan.

        • Consider $125 for 240Gb: Vodafone $150 240GB 1 Year @ Woolworths IN-Store Only, see WW catalogue sales 21-27Aug24
          Final price $125 = 150 - $15 (10% ER MONTHLY-discount) - $10 (2000 EDR-points)
          Prior-comments: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/858174

          • @ab c: Those discounts aren't available for everyone.

And what about the bonus 90GB?

            • @inherentchoice: I did commented 'Consider…'

              It's IM-possible to comment that'll suit 100% of buyers: circumstances are SO-different & SO-wide.

Sure, SOME will NEED extra 90GB & hence will pay for it, whiles others will save $22 (147-125), & have access to ER MONTHLY-discount.

    • +2

Not a better deal if you want 5G access and more data, with a comparable price.
Kogan does not offer 5G on that plan yet, Vodafone does on all prepaid services under their own brand.

  • +4

Also available at Woolworths in the upcoming catalogue - $150 with bonus 2000 Rewards points.

    • I don't think this has 90GB bonus data on top of the 240GB. See this comment here.

The 2nd line in the description leads you to believe that's the case.

      • +1

        The 240GB includes the 90GB bonus. (So 150 + 90)

  • Is Catch Connect (optus 4G only) any better than Voda? I m in Melb metro.

    • Catch is 4G only. Coverage, pointless really talking about it on here, best to try it yourself with a $2 SIM as everyone's experience will be different :)

  • +3

Thanks. Free 365 day returns with onepass lol

    • Yeah right lol after used

  • This gives 5G right? So does that make it better reception than Kogan? Anyone tried both?

    • +5

      This gives 5G right?

Only if you are up to date with all your boosters

    • Yes, all Vodafone branded services offer 5G where available.

  • -3

Just remember that if you did this, you would become a Vodafone customer.

  • Is this only for new customers, if I’m currently on this plan can I use it as recharge or port out and back in?

    • +1

AFAIK you have to port out and back in

    • Must port out and back.

  • +1

Can we receive free text messages while in overseas?

    • +1

      Receive, yes. 100%

    • +1

As far as I know, nobody charges for texts received while roaming.

      • It's free within Amaysim, with a roaming pack eyeroll

  • I have been on this since last November

this year I will go Boost instead. less data (but I don't need that much) but hopefully better reception around the CBD

  • Can I retain my current number and use this? I'm with Vodafone currently

  • +1

I live in the outback of North West QLD. We have Vodafone in town and the 4G speeds are woeful 1.5 - 5 Mbps. Signal strength, however, in town and way at the outskirts 20-25km is pretty decent. Noted today when out of town Vodafone is using Optus 3G and appears as Vodafone AU Roaming, first time I've seen this. Speeds are the same if not worse. So who knows maybe the Optus & TPG piggyback agreement is being tested. I would give this plan a go

  • Can purchase via gift card?

  • +1

I decided to try Vodafone this year, some regrets

Had to sim swap to get RCS off some random temporary number after trying everthing else I could find

Phone frequently doesn't ring and goes straight to voicemail

    Text message delays coming through

Other person on call says the call quality is terrible

5g coverage is good everywhere other than Costco so far (metro wa) and the speeds are good but yeah kind of failing at the most important part of being a functioning phone service

    • there is totally no reception in Costco Perth Airport. Apparently only telstra works in costco?

      • Yeah that's right, it's super annoying

      • Optus has more coverage than Telstra & Vodafone in that area.
There's a nice little Android app called "Aus Phone Towers" that reveals all the mobile towers around you.

  • Wow cheap

  • Does this include international calling?

    • Nope, the only inclusions are
      International texts
      50 standard international texts.

Try elsewhere if required free International calls, such as Boost or Amaysim yearly sim
