I was in the market for a new slow cooker thanks to this cooler weather. I was looking at the Good Guys and this model was $79.99.

As a responsible Ozbargain member, I checked online for a price and Amazon are selling it at this price. The Good Guys would not price match it.

The cheapest it's been, according to Camelx3 is $33.04 in late 2021 and hasn't reach that price since.

If you don't need 7L,get the 5.5L Contempo one from Big W.

$26. Although I got it on a 50% off sale years ago.

It's been great and actually came up top in the Choice test.

You don't need to spend much on a slow cooker.

    • For that Big W one, have you checked what temp the Low setting cooks at? My "slow" cooker's Low setting is 101C :/

      • I was under the impression that "low" and "high" settings on slowcookers only referred to how long they took to reach temperature but that both got to the same temp eventually?

      • They're all about this level - just barely enough to almost simmer.
Usually the only difference between Low and High is that one takes 8 hours and one takes 4 hours.

        • That's the common view but I think it may be outdated now. Mine takes only 1.5-2 hours for beef coz of the high temp. Ideally you want the Low setting to be around 85C (or at least adjustable). Apparently this used to be the common "Low" setting until the late 90s when some idiot sued because he didn't cook his own food properly, and now most of them have a Low setting around 100C and none have an adjustable thermostat. I have seen only one with a stated temp of 85C and it was super exxy.

Bought this for Mums mother's day gift and she absolutely loves it. Great performance and good enough build quality. The only thing she's complained about is that the power cable is quite short, so keep that in mind when buying. :)

    • Does it happen to take a figure 8 or C13 cable, or is it built into the cooker?

Edit: Wait it's washable, obviously it would be removable

      • +3

The ceramic pot is removable, not the power cable

        • That makes more sense.

      • It's a standard C-13. Just a very very short one

        • The design of almost every slow cooker's power cord is short so it reduces the chance a child will pull it off the counter and hurt themselves very badly.

@TEER3X: Fair point, looks like mums old slow cooker didn't care about children's safety:/

@banterbants: You should care about a perfectly good meal getting ruined then.

I've been lamenting for years that my 5.5L slow cooker is just too small, particularly when throwing in meat on the bone. Might be time to go bigger at this price.

Although I'm really wishing the 8L instant pot duo crisp would go on sale again instead.

I use mine to infuse cannabis with butter. Works fine, but smells a lot. Also do chickens in it, the chicken breaks up after being in it all day and makes great soup.

    • What do you use the butter for?

      • +2

        Getting high.

        • I guess it's healthier to shelve it than it is to smoke it.

    • You can get rid of the smell if you cover it in a box with a bunch of blankets over it. I know it sounds unsafe but Ive done it around 40 times with no probs and I do it on the bathroom floor in case anything bad does happen (nothing for the fire to catch on). These days Ill just do it in a pressure cooker, some smell but bugger all. I dont do the mason jar method I just put a microwave rice cooker bowl in there on top of the water, because Im one of those people that like to use water (makes straining easier).

  • Bought this yesterday, glad to know I'm a solid bargain finder that doesn't have to look on here to find the deals

Ozbargainers here might read you differently, you may be a solid bargain finder but not that much a good one when it comes to sharing those bargains.. and also you came to know you got yourself a solid bargain because of this post :)

  • Can it make good pulled beef?

  • Is this good enough or are those all in one cookers the better option?

    • The all in one cooker is great if you can find recipes specifically for it. I know someone who swears by it, but they are the kind of person who hates having too many gadgets and pans cluttering up their kitchen.

I have an all in one and it doesnt slow cook that great.

Bought this Nov 21 for $49 lol

  • What is slow cooker used for? Can it be used for Hot pot at home?

  • Would this be too big for just one person use?
