Is this supposed to be a good price?

    • +1

It’s been cheaper, but this is the best atm 🤷‍♀️ .

    • I was looking up reviews last night and a bunch of results were from news articles from the US sites posted 1-2 days ago, saying that AMD have dropped the price of the 7700X. I assume that’s flowing our way, hence this deal might be more long term.

  • Same shop Ryzen 7700 for $474.

Essentially same CPU with a free CPU cooler

    • Yeah the X is just an overlooked non X. I believe the performance is the same with EXPO. Please correct me if wrong.

      • I would watch this video before you make this assumption,

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGbW7orZS-A

Essentially there is a lot more variation in the binning of non-X parts.

        • Thanks. I see what you mean, there is risk that a non X could overclock the same. Since they’re the same price virtually now, and that I was going to get a separate cooler, I’m leaning toward the X.

          • @Corgsta: Like you I was considering the 7600 non X.

But there was a 7600X CPU + motherboard bundle deal with BPC that ended up being cheaper.

  • The over voltage issue, is it only for X3D CPUs?

    • -1

I think it applies to all but it shows up on x3d as they have a higher current requirement.

Tbh, as long as you have the latest bios that addresses the issue, I wouldn't be concerned.

      • Would be careful if you have ASUS MB. They don't offer warranty if you update to their latest beta bios.

Yes, do not put this CPU in an ASUS board, or an ASUS board in your PC case. In fact if you have an ASUS board sell it quickly before it steeply devalues.
The updated ASUS BIOS will indeed void your board warranty. ASUS have publicly stated this.

          • @Lps: Hmm, I have been tempted to get an Asus mobo, but have actually used a Gigabyte board for every build for the last 20 years. I have just stuck with what I know, and now I may never get to try an Asus mobo. Well, by next build who knows what will happen.

            • @trippy: I never understood why asus had a good reputation - i had 3 asus boards fail in quick succession in the early 2000s, then another 2 fail around 2010. I figured they were a budget brand until the last few years when they got this "gamer" rep.

              • @ssfps: I always thought they were decent quality. I used to have one back in similar era. The last ten years my PC has had an MSI but I won’t be continuing that, the BIOS takes for ever. Looking at upgrading with a Gigabyte. ASRock are the budget Asus brand I thought, I’ve steered clear of them too but I think they have gotten better these days.
