  • You may be eligible for annual fee waiver if you have a Home Loan account with offset facility.

There is another option to get Platinum credit card and it offers 60,000 Qantas bonus points.

    • How do you apply for waiver if you have home loan and offset ?

      • +1

Your package (that came out wrong)

      • It’s part of your home loan package if you have opted for offset account. Today I got approved for Platinum card and no annual fee. Hopefully it’s the same for Signature card.
Platinum has minimum credit limit of 6k while Signature has 15k. I didn’t want to go with a 15k limit credit card.

  • +5

The annual fee is reduced to $139 for the first year for existing customers (at least for St George - not sure about the other two). You can become an existing customer by first opening a St George Complete Freedom account that has zero account-keeping fees. However, I can’t recall if you can do that entirely online/from home, or if you have to go into a branch to verify your account/identity as part of the process.

    • For future churners, I actually tried this. And doesn't work. They don't acknowledge any card fee discount for existing customers. So don't bother.

  • -4

Cant really afford annual fee there. So NO THX

    • +10

OK, but why are you shouting?

    • Even with the annual fee reduction mentioned by @beecher?

    • hmmm…why am I being negged…I mean if you go to NAB website, they have a credit card that offers $120k Qantas point when you spend only $3k in 60 days and keep the card for the year for an annual fee of $295.

Sooo…. is that a better deal than this?

      • NAB is 90k in the first year, 30k in the second year. But yes, slightly less spending required.

        • -2

well yeah…exactly…a better deal than this one…not even sure if this is a deal to begin with.

Oh wait, ANZ has also a credit card that offers 110k Qantas point if you spend $5k within 3 months!

          • +1

@Taro Milk Tea: People who rotate through cards may have already used ANZ and NAB in the past 12 to 18 months and this gives them another option

            • -1

@PSEACT: Well….is there an explanation in OP's post that mention for those who has used both ANZ/NAB card, this is not a better deal BUT….

          • +1

@Taro Milk Tea: Not necessarily, you have to pay the annual fee again in the second year with NAB to get the extra 30k points. Some may consider it better, many others may not (eg. churners).

This and a lot of CC deals are often quite useful for churners in particular who might be in a waiting period for various other cards, or not be willing or able to apply with certain banks for whatever reason. The separate deals are also not mutually exclusive - just because ANZ might be the best CC deal (which I think most would agree with), doesn't mean you can't take advantage of others as well.

            • @djkelly69:

still a better deal as min spending requirement is 3k less to get the 90k bonus point

              • @Taro Milk Tea: But it is also 60 days to hit the spend rather than 90. And if I know I am going to spend the required amount for either, then I may prefer to go with the slightly lower annual fee with STG.

                • @djkelly69: People who applied these credit cards with the aim of getting the bonus Qantas point will definitely force themselves to meet the min spending…regardless 60/90 days.

Otherwise…why bother applying this type of credit card :(

I'm presuming the negs are piling on because the responsibility of the user negging the post is to also justify the vote-down. If the qualifying comment starts off with "what's the deal here?" that might be the reason why.

Source: I down-voted your original comment too.

        • -1

          mehhh it's fine…still not a Deal tho

  • -1

I wouldn't waste your time with st George, they will reject you even with excellent credit, I've seen a few Forum and Reddit posts about it and had it happen to me

    • +1

YMMV - I have my home loan with STG and was fully approved for this card within about 30 minutes (this was about a month ago).

    • YMMV. I'm an existing customer* and got approved with only 2 payslips and a rental income ledger (whereas they actually asked for a statement showing the deposits)

      • I only have a transaction account open with $50 in it for the sake of applying for St George's existing customer discounted annual fees
      • got approved with only 2 payslips and a rental income ledger

I didn't even need to do that - my pay goes in to STG and approval was instant once I did the 'log into your account' thing

        • My pay doesn't go to a STG account, so I'm guessing that's why I had to provide (and I wasn't willing to login and provide them with access to my other accounts).

Now that you mention it, I've had STG almost auto approve an application back in 2020 when I was getting paid into a STG account.

    • +1

I've had the card 4 times in the past handful of years (3 times with St George once with BoM and the last in the past 6 months) with no issues applying/approval/etc

    • +2

I have a high credit score and was rejected twice. Didn't want to give me an explanation, they didn't care. Someone who worked for BoM told me the trick is to go into a branch as they can help push it through in person (before you are rejected I mean, as in a new application).

I've never tried though, the two rejections left a sour taste

    • St George was one of the easier approvals for me. Maybe you’ve been churning too hard.

    • Damn you’re right. Never been rejected for a credit card until today. What a joke of a company, just closed my $15k ANZ Black card and they can’t even approve a $6k one.

    • spot on! 900+ credit score and instantly rejected, infuriating

      • So frustrating!!!

  • -4

whats the point? how much is 90k points worth?

    • +2

Depending on what you use them for. You can get 2.5 cents per point for domestic flights. Upgrades get you more value for money. Even at 2.5 cents, thats over $2200.

      • Not when you add the cost of your time finding rewards seats. Also domestic business class is way overpriced, no one would actually pay for it out of their own pocket, it's there for company paid flights and rewards.

    • +8

If you don't know the point of points, there's no need to know what the points are worth lol

    • +2

      About three fiddy

  • Maybe off topic, did anyone find the Qantas reward flights require huge amount of points for overseas even for an economy ticket ?? Wonder what overseas flights you can redeem, if you can find any, for the 90k points.

    • Not quite within the 90k limit you specified, but I booked Syd to NYC flights on economy for 110k pts.

      • +2

Ensure you are looking at Classic Flight Rewards, not Points Plus Pay.

Refer to the Classic Flight Reward tables, noting that SYD-JFK (e.g. via AKL) is Zone 10:-

        • First Class = 216,900 points + $$$
        • Business Class = 144,600 points + $$$
        • Premium Economy = 108,400 points + $$$
        • Economy = 55,200 points + $$$

Points cost for Classic Flight Rewards with Qantas, Fiji Airways, Air Vanuatu, and American Airlines.

Jetstar costs fewer points, while rewards on other partner airlines cost more.

    • should be around 130-140K to most european cities- depends on how mush you meant is "huge"

    • Example?

    • +2

Ensure you are looking at Classic Flight Rewards, not Points Plus Pay.

Refer to the Classic Flight Reward tables to see where 90,000 points can get you:-

      • 3,600 miles in First Class = 85,500 points + $$$ (but I don't think First is available on any routes that short)
      • 5,800 miles in Business Class = 82,000 points + $$$
      • 8,400 miles in Premium Economy = 81,300 points + $$$
      • 15,000 miles in Economy = 55,200 points + $$$

Availability is indeed limited, especially in premium cabins, on popular routes and/or during peak periods.

    • My real example:
SYD - BKK, 1 way: 68k miles +$200 for Qantas Business, 9 hours flight

      Booked 5-6 months in advance

  • Not a bad rate. $280 is roughly the cost of a domestic return between East coast capital, which is around 24k points with no extra to pay. Getting 3x return Qantas domestic trips, pretty good deal.

  • I really don't see the value in this deal compared to just taking out their platium card.

Assuming OB folk are smart enough to become an existing customer by opening a basic savings account

Sig Annual fee $139 gets you the chance to get 90K points ($1.54 annual fee per 1K points earned)
Plat Annual fee $49 gets you the chance to get 60K points ($0.82 annual fee per 1K points earned)

So you're almost paying twice the price in annual fee to earn an equivalent amount of points.

That coupled with additional spending requirements and the requirement of a credit limit for the Sig almost triple that of the Platinum….. means I went platinum.

If you're in a rush to earn points then it might be attractive, if you're in it for the long haul (pun) then I'd consider going the platinum route. Much better value proposition.

    • I am waiting to apply for a card through my home loan so its noice

    • +1

Those shooting for Points Club Plus will benefit from the additional 30K points.

    • The Signature card also gets you 2x Qantas Lounge Passes if you value those.

I only went Platinum just now because St George would not approve me for the Signature card even though I have no other (currently active) credit cards,my mortgage is virtually non-existent, and my monthly expenses are well within my and my wifes income capablilities. I was a bit shocked actually that they denied me.
But so be it. I will take their 60K Qantas points and be done with this card soon enough.

      • Does that mean you applied for the Signature initially?

Did they call you to discuss downgrading the card?

I'm unsure if I would get approved for the signature, but if they do consider offering a lower tier card instead, I might give it a shot.

  • +2

The ANZ black Qantas card is better - if you qualify.

    • -1

Once you go black, you need a wheelchair.
Joke aside, i have one and its nice but my fee free period ends soon

  • anything with velocity instead? hate Qantas

  • +1

You can sign up this deal to get the bonus first, and then switch the reward program to amplify reward, which is better value in my opinion. Given the fact that this is one of the very few cards out there that have no reward point caps, it is definitely a long-term keeper.

  • Any AMEX bonus signup referral lately? Looking for the 200k points deal.

  • Me and my wife have a joint home loan account with STG. My wife have a credit card under her name with me as a supplementary card holder. If I apply for this card under my name, will I be eligible for the bonus Qantas points?

    • Should be, supp doesn't count as a current card-holder AFAIK.

  • Is it only me or spending Qantas miles gets harder and harder? They don't show partner airlines in the search results like Qatar Airways anymore, the only available seats are with JetStar in most destinations which has a very basic business class. I heard that parner options are available when you book via phone but come on, making booking on the phone in 2023? Any tips guys? How do you book flights?

    • Reward flight availability has always been very challenging, and it got more difficult with people building up bigger stashes of points during COVID and there now being more competition for limited/fewer seats.

One change to note as per https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/redeem-qantas-poi…

In the past, Qantas released its international Classic Flight Rewards in a staggered pattern that favoured members with Gold or higher status:
Post-pandemic, the system appears to have changed from scheduled daily releases to irregular batch releases such as the February 2023 mass release of reward seats. Other recent batch releases of reward seats on Qantas flights have worked in a similar way but were not as widely publicised.
This system makes it easier for all members to access reward seats in premium cabins, sometimes even during the busier travel months. However, it’s less predictable.

I've had reasonable success with Southeast Asia business class reward flights (plus a couple of points upgrades), although have to be somewhat flexible with the dates and routes that become available. Also far more rare Japan, Canada and US reward flights.

    • I call up the Qantas Platinum line and ask them to release the seats for me. It's great :D

For people without status, it's a fool's errand to collect Qantas points. Much better to earn Velocity or Singapore points — way better redemption options.

      • Year, this is the reason I switched to Velocity recently.

  • Applied and was approved for the BankSA offering.
Does anyone know if it's possible to activate the card / add it to apple pay without receiving the card yet?

  • Has anyone tried or know that if you held a Amplify Reward, 7 months ago (closed) and apply for Amplify Qantas Platinum/Signature then you get a sign up bonus as well or not (due to being under 12 months of prev card holder) ?

Tried to clarify with St George Call Centre, operator said, should not be any issue, didnt seem to show confidence while talking. I may ask them again tomorrow.

    • “Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.“

  • 1st month done, required spend done too. Points received for purchases but no bonus points yet. T&cs says bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your Points balance within 12 weeks after the eligible spend criteria is met.

Let’s see how long it takes for them to come through.

    • How you travelling? I’ve been waiting since 20th May. Very slow

  • Looks like BoM have introduced an additional fee (other than Credit Card annual fee) if you want to earn Qantas Reward points (Qantas Reward Program fee - $75).
Is it worth keeping this card and paying $75 every year?

  • Confirmed over the phone if you have a home loan with St George with offset (package) the annual fee will automatically get waived. Great deal for St George customers

    • +2

I don't have a home loan with St George but I requested pro-rata refund of the annual fee and they agreed.

      • good to know, looking at cancelling the card once i receive the bonus points.

    • Do you know if you got charged $75 Annual Amplify Qantas Rewards Program fee?

      • They've increased the credit card fee since 20/7/2023 and also started charging the $75 Qantas Rewards Program fee since then. When did you apply?

        • Thinking of applying for it but unsure of the Qantas rewards fee. Have mortgage packaging with them so wanted to go with the card with them too
