I'd rather they provide a manual or a mini art book that could fit inside the case rather than that stupid coin.

    • +107

      Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me princess.

      • Well executed.

    • I’d rather they provide A Link to the Past instead BotW2.

      • Yeah, but there's a rumour that if you hold the coin to the controller it'll "isekai" you to Hyrule

        • Seems legit.
I do look like a goofy zelda npc already so I'll fit right in

        • +1

Id be happy if it just gives you a shield that doesn't break.

        • i think you need to get hit by a white van as well at the same time. :L

  • +7

Amazon still wins for me on convenience. For those who want a coin it's good though.

    • +5

Sometimes the preorder isn't delivered on release date which is not ideal esp for Zelda 😩

      • +4

Well yeah, if you need to play it on release date nothing beats walking into a store and holding it in your hands.

I'm excited but can wait another day or two. At least that's how I'm feeling rn.

        • +1

Amazon can sometimes send it weeks after release, be warned

          • +1

@freoleo: Just cancel the order if it doesn’t ship.

        • Would the digital release be the quickest and most certain way to play on release day? I am expecting it will go live on eShop before the stores open. I am travelling on May 12th, so hope I can download it before getting in the plane.

          • +7

@Mikeer: Don't get the digital version in my opinion. The physical version will retain it's value for at least the next 10 years.

            • +2

@Cjdanger: Physical copy is definitely better value, and cheaper too

            • @Cjdanger: @Mikeer @CjdangerIf you don’t want to sell the game.. ever, would you still consider buying physical over digital?
I was inclining towards digital (using the eShop 2 game voucher) and then not switching cartridges between ToTK & ring fit.

              • @kc7: Both digital and physical have their positives and negatives. You do what's right for you mate.

Though chances are you'll be paying a premium to have a digital copy if you are buying it on release.

EDIT: Just reread your comment and saw you have a voucher. Considering you've already paid for a voucher you may as well get it digitally.

            • @Cjdanger: *30years

              • +1

@Micsmit: Agreed, didn't want to seem like I was exaggerating though

      • +1

Yeah in my experience I rarely get games delivered on release day via Amazon. But other people I know have consistently received theirs on day one.

    • +2

Agree - however I think Amazon is likely to come later than release day - it's been the case for a lot of people.
But I don't mind and have had it pre-ordered from Amazon for a year now.

  • -1

    Cooooooiiinnnnnnnn

  • Just bought prior Zelda yesterday, don't know why my brain thought otherwise but when I saw the GFX and was like oh my…its N64 days haha.

    Can not wait!

    • +4

Play some OOT and you will quickly realise it's much better 🤣
Edit: BOTW graphics are better is what I mean

      • +1

Haha I gotcha, I've still got the N64 so will revisit it with my son.

He tried to play Zelda yesterday but I was like son this is my play time (I rarely game).

  • +6

Still haven’t finished BOTW! Just restarted playing Mario Odyssey

    • +3

Really? I am in the opposite… can never finish any Mario games…

      • Yea same, finished BOTW but literally could never finish a single Mario game. Just doesn't do it for me for some reason.

        • +1

Since mario 64 and paper mario i haven't been wowed

Same goes with OOT and majora though

    • Same finished Odyssey. But could not complete BOTW… somehow I am finding it hard

      • You can go straight to the final boss at almost any point if that helps.

    • I’m overwhelmed by BOTW - and the less focus on narrative and elaborate dungeons is making it more hard to stay motivated

I hope TOKT will be more focused on narrative and elaborate dungeons

(Zelda fan since god knows when, BOTW and MM are the only ones I couldn’t bring myself to beat)

      • Yeah I think I’m the same.. I’ve only played about 30mins into the game, and I’m not really enjoying it. I’ll likely just play it to beat it, and then sell it

        • 30 minutes isn't enough to get a good feel. To be honest I've played about 30/40 hours and only now starting to "get it".it is a bit of a grind and the environment is pretty samey.

I also want to finish this game soon but don't think I'm prepared to play Tears of Kingdom for another year at least lol

  • +1

Already prepaid $79 for game at JB, would they offer $5 refund?

    • +4

      According to this Yes

      Pre-order price guarantee
If the price of your pre-order drops before release day we'll refund you the difference shortly after release.

    • +1

Yeah they refund the difference at release iirc.

  • Awesome - great find. Thanks for posting.

  • +4

TOTK preorder bonuses are whack af

    • Came here to say this. Why are there so many different ones??? Weird as.

      • +1

From Country to Country there are different pre order bonuses. Some people collect those. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.polygon.com/platform/amp/de…

        • +7

Doesn't change the fact that they're all garbage. Someone further up suggested that Nintendo could have included a small game manual inside the case like they used to with older games - which I def would have preferred to any of the current options.

Spoon, fork, luggage tag, pins, coin, shirt, etc etc they're probably just going to end up in landfill.

          • @DeToxin: The wall scroll and blanket are cool

They won't end up in landfill even though they're otherwise garbage. Because there's enough people that think a Zelda spoon is too valuable to chuck out that they'll horde it for 80 years.. Sigh

  • +4

Not sure why I preordered. I played about 10mins of BOTW

    • +2

      same :)

    • +1

The RRP is $89.95. The best price over the next year(s) is on release, while every retailer is in competition. Buy now and save or buy later and pay more. In 2024 you could still sell both and possibly break even.

      • +3

Don't forget that with pre-launch prices which include GST, our copies are among the cheapest in the world. Compare to the US where it's $70USD before tax.

    • +1

Blasphemy. You should play it at least once.

    • Same! Lol.

Well I played a few dungeons, but lost interest because of the lack of story.

      • +5

It has as much story and lore as most Zelda games. That is more than enough.

At least it isn't filled to the brim with cutscenes and irritating voice acting like many "AAA" games these days. Give me good gameplay over cutscenes any time. If I want to watch B-grade cinematics with horrible acting, I'll go to the movies. Games are for gameplay.

        • +2

That's just your opinion. To me it's not enough. Improved story would help.

The reason i play Zelda though is the puzzles. Which they lost their way at. I'll buy this game because i know i can sell it for about what i paid, but my hopes are low.

        • There are plenty of games with a combination of great cutscenes + gameplay.

Why do we have to choose only one or another?

And I am not trashing the game or anything like that.

          • -1

@Flying owl: I've honestly never seen a "great cutscene" (i.e. one I didn't feel like skipping) in my 30-odd years of gaming. They're all sub-B-movie quality, and come at a time when I've sat down to play a game, not to watch a short film. Any longer than 30 seconds starts dragging and has me reaching for the "skip" button.

If I want to watch something, I'll watch a movie, not play a game.

However, I realise that others have a different opinion. That's fine. But just because a game doesn't have "story" (i.e. endless cutscenes), doesn't automatically make it bad. Nor does it mean it's lacking in lore or characterisation. It's just prioritising gameplay over non-interactive narrative.

  • they really need to make a 2 player version. like the fan modified one.

You can potentially use a Perks coupon

It doesn’t look like you can

Coupon cannot be used on Telstra & Foxtel Services, Miele & Asko, Dell & Apple Built To Order, Prepaid Cards & Gift Cards, Pre-Orders, Extended Warranties & Delivery purchases

    • Only way to use it for TotK is claim on release day. No pre-order bonus though.

      • Good point

Too bad, I joined a few weeks ago and my coupon is expiring soon

        • +1

I was in the same spot when pre-ordering Metroid Prime 72hrs before. Couldn't use coupon on the game, not wanting it to expire, I added a blu-ray I'd buy anyway to the order. This made priority shipping more cost effective. I expected them to be bundled but they were split, "free" blu-ray one day, Metroid on release day delivered to a rural area.

  • +7

    Cannot use a perks voucher.

Coupon cannot be used on Telstra & Foxtel Services…. Pre-Orders, Extended Warranties & Delivery purchases.

    • +1

Thanks for the info. I didn't know.

      • +1

Your welcome. I took this information from the existing post

  • +4

Fyi, pre order bonus is luggage tag with EB, and poster with Gamesmen.

    I personally prefer the coin.

    • I usually pre order in EB and ask them to pirce match when I collect the game. Can use discount gift card and earn some carrots too.

  • +3

JBHIFI also offering the trade2 deal where you can trade in 2 games to get zelda for free.
There are specific games you can trade in
Just make sure the 2 games you get are worth less than $36 each.
Can try to find them at other gaming outlets when they are on sale.
The pokemon games were accepted when I traded 2 games in.

    • +1

How do actually trade? I don’t see an option online.

Plus is there a list of games they would accept for trade? I can’t find the list on their website

      • +3

When I did the trade, there was another picture next to the preorder coin bonus stating that you could trade in 2 games and get zelda for free.

Here was the list of games I used, it was for the resident evil 2 remake, but the JBHIFI team said it also applied to other trade 2 games as well.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/764253

        EDIT:
Here is the list of games:
        https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/20230…

i went into JBHIFI on 24/3/23
If you click on Jedi Survivor for PS5, there is a picture of the trade 2 deal
        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/playstation-5-star-wars-j…

        • How did you get access to this list? Trying to get a more updated list - asked JB live chat and no dice.

EDIT: I see it now - lower down on the page (I was looking at the pictures)

          • @wallahcuz: Hey wallahcuz, where did you find the list of updated games?

            • +1

@maybeamacy: In the link in grubgrub’s comment, if you go to the “Don’t miss out on these” section it’s the last image.

I emailed JB on the 22nd this month and they’ve confirmed the list that grubgrub’s linked remains current.

Already have my order in, but will acknowledge that I'll most likely be playing this on my deck for performance now that I got gyro working.

    • Make sure you use EA for Yuzu as well.

    • +2

Are you just fishing for people to congratulate you on your expensive Steam Deck purchase?

      • Should I be?

I tried to communicate that this price was good to move on despite having a deck and all that implies. Loved Botw on switch enough to buy totk.

No need to draw lines in the sand.

  • got it, thanks, king

  • +2

lol the coin beats the luggage-tag EB Games are offering

  • will amazon offer anything?

    • Free shipping.

      • If I pre-order in JB-Hifi can i pickup on 12 of May?

        • from my past experience with JB and pre-orders, you can pick it up first thing in the morning on release date 12th May. Obviously this isn't guaranteed as no one can avoid delays 100% of the time but JB has been good in my experience.

    • Amazon will offer not to send you a useless coin that nobody will really care about and that you will just throw in a drawer somewhere and then ultimately throw out in 10 years time.

  • Would have loved to jump on this, but I have a $10 off voucher tied to my Amazon order of the game, and I don't think the coin is worth $10 (at least for me).

  • -2

I wish this would run at 60fps, its so jarring playing at 30.

  • I have no experience with purchasing games that are super popular on launch day…
How likely is it that JB will have stock to purchase on launch if I showed up when the store opens?

Just thinking of taking advantage of the $10 Welcome coupon or the Trade 2 deal…

    • +1

      That would be anyone's guess.

  • Is this coin some sort of collectible or just very easily get?

  • Is the coin edible?

    • +2

      Do you eat metal?

      • sometimes…

  • Dumb question. Will Eb Games price match on a preorder and refund the difference?

    • According to their website no. And as far as I know Eb games don't price match. https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/nintendo-switch/271658-th…

      • +2

EB Games does price match, but generally only:

        • If their competitors that you are price matching against has a store in the same vicinity.
        • The competitior has the product in stock at that store.
        • It's the exact same SKU (so they might use the different pre-order bonus as an excuse to deny the price match).
        • Plus whatever arbitrary rules the employee/manager at that EB store comes up with to deny the price match.
        • Yeah most probably I thought they don't price match because of the:

Plus whatever arbitrary rules the employee/manager at that EB store comes up with to deny the price match

        • Yep, I have had them price match preorders, but if you've already paid you don't have the option to walk if they say no.

  • +2

Thanks, OP. I'll cancel my Pre-order at Amazon. ;)

  • does this come on the day if delivered?

  • Can somebody pls confirm that it’s possible to use jbhifi gift cards for pre-orders?

    • +1

Yes you can. Tested eGift card myself.
