I really enjoyed this game, with exception to the story boards with Saga.

The musical level (no spoilers) was so creative, bonkers and different. The song is still stuck in my head.

    • I have the soundtrack and score on Spotify; the songs are legit bangers.

The Saga stuff is hard because it’s hard to have any actual detective work in a video game. It just turns into a clever way of dropping exposition and narrative rather than being actually interactive.

    • Far out that was when I stopped playing it I found it too silly for words, loved the first one and max Payne 1 and 2.

Best $45.47 you’ll spend this month. Up there with The Last of Us Part II - a masterpiece.

      Lmao you're funny

      • TLOU 2 is widely recognised as a masterpiece. Probs the best game I've ever played, if not my favourite.

I loved the way it had no political axe to grind, Neil Druckman is truly a centrist hero

          • @Donmega123: I'm willing and able to let a piece of art, which to agree does echo some 'both sides-ism's of the real world, be separated from a director's politics.

If you've finished the game however, you'll know that the crux of the story isn't an endorsement of an ideology. In fact it's a pretty clear rebuke of ideologues and dogma in any form.

I say this is somebody who would be considered as having the opposite views as Neil Druckmann.

@OfTheOverflow: A piece of art? Get a grip you're fighting zombies with a two by four.

              • +2

@Donmega123: Art is subjective, and much like raw paint itself, moment to moment gameplay itself isn't necessarily 'artistic'. But an elegantly told story which is enhanced by player agency, is absolutely a valid form of artist expression.

Sorry you're not able to appreciate that. :)

                • @OfTheOverflow: In a sense it's preferable to be easily moved, but there is a whole world of beautiful literature waiting, and your presumably innocent and youthful conceit will seem very ridiculous indeed as you are exposed to it.

@Donmega123: Thanks - I'll do my best, as a librarian, to try and read some of this 'literature' you refer to.

As I do, I'll be sure to will myself - however impossible with feeble and undeveloped brain - to appreciate the work at even a tenth of your ability to do so. Wish me luck.

                  • @Donmega123: Ah the irony of making that comment to someone with that username.

  • I've already bought at this price and it's great

  • Just recently played this. I didn't love the combat and some gameplay elements feel a bit under baked, but the atmosphere and story make it well worth a play through (even though I didn't really) understand what was happening half the time). Also played the lake house DLC, and it didn't disappoint.

Currently also ATL ($37.97) on Epic Games for PC players: https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/alan-wake-2

  • Psn india has this for $29.50,once converted (INR to AUD)

  • Do I need to play the first Alan Wake game for this?

    • +1

Adds depth but not strictly necessary; they’re different genres, too. 1: action/horror 2: survival horror.

    • +2

First one is way better definitely worth playing first and stands alone

      • Agree. The first game was a GOAT for me. I was really hoping this would be the same but I was sadly mistaken. I can't understand what the hype is about. I'm trying to play a game, not direct a movie. Unnecessarily long and confusing. It turned into a drag and I just wanted it to end.

1st game is still very playable. I played it again recently and it was very enjoyable. There's a remastered version in epic games but either version is good - the atmosphere in the original could be slightly better, both versions have their own perks.

I got both versions since epic games gave the 1st one for free with the Alan Wake 2 and I already had it in Steam.

Also the 1st one is ideal for anyone with a Steam Deck.

  • Any physical deals?

  • Does this game have jumpscares?

    • +1

      Ah yup

    • So many that it becomes a piss-take.

    • There has since been an update which allows you to tone the jump scares down.

  • Masterpiece. Almost.

This game is a piece of art.

  • It's not a lake, it's an ocean.
