        • I have done it in the past at the post office. Paying in blocks of $250 was accepted.

          • +1

@t25: Its depending on the post office person.

          • @t25: Will try today and update

            • @rustproofhydra: I tried to pay for my rego in Parkwood WA post office, the person refuse to use the cards insisting they are gift cards, not credit cards. I went to another post office, pay with them with no issue at all.

            • @rustproofhydra: I manage to get cards use for paying rego at livingstone postoffice without an issue

        • I set a pin to a card and then add the card to Paypal. The card was blocked by the issuer. I had to call the help line (waited for 30mins) to get it unblocked. I am not sure why that happened.

          • @fatice: Mine was blocked too when I tried to link it to PayPal. When I rang he said they consider it the same as trying to use an atm/cash out/ over the counter at a financial institution. He unblocked it without fuss. He also suggested taking a photo of the front and back to help with replacement if you lose it.

          • +2

@fatice: Yes i had the same on 1 card out of 10. Was paying water corp bill in advance but card was blocked. Have to call coles master card (30min wait) and sort it out.
A word of caution before throwing card under the rug check the balance and make sure all cards work and have loaded balance

  • Can I use this to buy Woolworths egift cards online?

    • Only via Paypal.

      • Ah, so I can add these cards to paypal for any purchase, can I?

        • +2

          Yes.

Linking it to a PayPal account and then paying via PayPal would get around a lot of the issues you may otherwise encounter with some online merchants (e.g. Woolworths Group gift card portal, Prezzee, Card.Gift), because some online merchants do not accept cards lacking support for 3-D Secure (or in Woolworths Group’s case, they specifically do not accept Coles Mastercard gift cards).

          • @WookieMonster: Can I use several cards in one purchase eg using 4 cards in PayPal for $1000 item.

            • +1

              @z28: No.

PayPal will only let you use one card as a funding source for a single transaction.

If you are paying for something online, you will struggle to find a merchant that will let you do split payments between multiple Mastercards online.

If you are paying for something in-person, it depends on whether the merchant can do it (i.e. their checkout system can do it) and whether the merchant is happy to do it.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: I tried linking mine to PayPal last night and it was declined and locked my card. When I rang them this morning I was told that they consider using it on PayPal as the same as trying to use at an atm or over the counter at a financial institution which is excluded in clause 2. Anyway he re-activated it.
You may fare better, just letting people know my experience.

            • @Supernanny: That's a first.

I find it interesting that InComm does not allow that (at least in your case), because another Blackhawk Network (another prepaid gift card issuer) actively encourages users to link their prepaid Activ Visa gift cards to PayPal to get around the non-acceptance of prepaid gift cards at some online merchants… and they have the same clause telling you not use Activ Visa gift cards to pay a financial institution.

The problem is that PayPal is not an ATM and you are not physically paying over the counter (i.e. at a human teller) at a financial institution when using PayPal, so it would be a strange interpretation of that clause in their terms. InComm will probably blacklist Sniip next if that is their new position on PayPal…

              • @WookieMonster: fatice further up the thread had the same thing happen.
I agree that it is a strange interpretation and I can’t see why using it on PayPal for my own added security can harm the card issuers but huh I’m just a user of their “service” trying to save a few bucks legitimately without having some low life cyber steal my money out of the blue!

            • @Supernanny: What did you do to your card before linking to PayPal?

The card that I had problem with was the one that I set a PIN prior linking to PayPal. Was that the reason for the automatic blocking?

    • Or use it instore.

  • Come on Queenslander.

Staff cleared them out before opening no stock Warradale & Marion SA

    • Try Service Desk.

    • Plenty at Burnside (Glenside) Coles today, picked up 5x $250

  • Can the Coles MC be used to pay Medibank Pte in multiple split payments? Can this be done online or do I need to go to Medibank Pte store or post office? Thanks

    • +1

Yez. I do it via the Medibank app, under Me > Manage Payments > Pay Premium > Pay Specific Amount, change card number to your relevant one and put $250 in amount field. That’ll put you $250 in front of your usual DD.

      • That's great. Thanks

  • 5 cards per customer per day. Great. So that means I can keep going back every day and buying cards, or is there some sort of hard limit that eventually applies?

Previously one could simply avoid scanning their FlyBuys card, and Coles would never know how many cards were purchased during the week. Now, that's impossible.

    • The number of days in the promotion period is a rather hard limit. 5 cards by 7 days is 35 cards total.

      • +2

Only 4 days for this promo period, due to public holidays, so maximum 20 cards. That is assuming there is still stock as well of course, which would be surprising.

        SA Coles:

        Closed
        Sun 09 Apr

        Mon 10 Apr

        • My local Coles in WA is only closed on Good Friday. So 6 days here

    • +1

Who doesn't have multiple flybuys cards? :)

      • It is common to have 2 or 3. I had over 10 fully registered at the peak time.

        • I would need a bigger wallet.

          • +1

@Bdawg: A rubber band would do the job just fine. OzBargain style.

          • @Bdawg: Previously Pre-2019 most giftcard sales only allowed one card purchase per flybuys in Coles.

  • +1

The cards are now kept behind Coles service desk and payment made directly when cards issued. That should stop tamper issues previously as cards not on display.

    • So more difficult to use self service and pay with egift cards, including partial?

    • is that in WA as well?

  • Can I add the card to beem and bpay rates, rego etc via bpay beem with no credit card fee ?

    • I paid my rates and rego in person with no fees.

      • In person you mean at dot office or postoffice? I asked dot over the phone in WA amd they said sorry we dont accept split payment even in person.
Council rates no problem I have paid in the past

        • I'm not in WA so, can't offer specific advice. Not accepting split payments is ludicrous.

    • +1

No, can’t add to Beem. Not an accepted card. It works on the credit network not the eftpos network which Beem operates on

  • Will anyone top this haul from the last deal?

    • My banks would most likely block the transactions
I wonder if they paid $$$

      • I would hate the change lol

    • That's impressive dedication to the game! I'm hoping I can get enough to pay one of the stages of my next house build when I bite the bullet.

    • +1

helluva red flag for money laundering

  • +4

just picked up today's 5 x $250. lady said it was her first time seeing someone spend so much at once, told her I'll see her tomorrow again lol

    • Got 5x $250 cards. The staff member I dealt with at the self service checkouts was fully up to speed and knew exactly when she would be needed to approve the transaction. That's pretty rare, as most staff seem astonished someone is spending $1k+ in a supermarket.

      • +4

it only takes 1 or 2 OzB professionals to go into a store before they learn a new skill ;)

      • Was this at colonnades? I think that's because I went first lol

        • Yes, at Colonnades. This morning they had a lot of $250 cards on sale. At least 50 on the shelf.

          • @Cluster: I was surprised they had that many, normally its so hard to get any there. I hope they restock in S.A like they do in other states.

  • Grabbed 5 just now in SA from the service desk.

  • +3

Check your docket before you leave to make sure they are all approved. I just bought two to test whether it seemed worthwhile to me and when I got home one showed as declined on the docket.
I’ve been back to the shop and left it for them to sort out!

    • Same with me, spent 1/2hr in store resolving. But clear alert it didn’t process on checkout screen.

    • At Raine Square today (Perth), I got 5 and paid at the womanned counter. After I paid the discounted cost of $1156.5, the certification process kicked off, four went through and one failed. The lady at the counter said I could grab another card but she couldn't be sure that I would get a discount for the replaced card (it might be counted as the 6th card for the day) so I opted for refund. Two ladies couldn't work out how much to refund so they put $257 through as refund: an extra $25.7 bonus today.

The moral of the story: don't pay for these at the self-assisted (their word) counter, these ladies/men might be patronising but at least problems are sorted on the spot (and you might score a win)

      • purchased 5x $250 at self-assisted checkout in the same Coles as you today, no issues

      • +1

Because they double scan one of the card, happened to me before.

    • Happened to me just this evening. Bought two and one was not activated. Found out after i came home. How did you sort out? Did they replace or refund?

      • +1

I’m meeting the lady who dealt with it tomorrow morning. I’ll update you with what she does to fix it. When I spoke to her on the phone earlier she talked about re-loading the declined card. I think she spent ages on the phone to the card supplier/colesmastercard number to find out what to do.

        • My one happened at Coles Blackwood. Bought 2 cards in the same transaction. Which store was for you?

          • +1

@io: Same state, different store. Two cards in same transaction.
When I went in today she had the old one ready to toss in the bin and a new one ready to put through the till while I was there watching.
I said we should have just done a refund yesterday in hindsight. She said “they” don’t like you to do that.
We agreed that whoever imposed that rule didn’t have to spend most of yesterday afternoon on the phone to unhelpful people finding out what the procedure is.
TLDR my declined card got replaced with a new approved one by service desk personnel.

            • @Supernanny: Thanks for the update. I will go to Coles Blackwood tonight after work! Thanks Mate.

              • +1

@io: As soon as issues occurred, the discount for these cards were diminished by wasting our time.

                • +1

@fatice: That was my feeling too but I’ve calmed down a bit now and am going back for more 😁. At least I know what can go wrong and will look out for it sooner.

  • +1

Are the $250 cards behind the counter in WA stores. only $100's on the shelf. Staff are pretty clueless, it appears that you don't have to have a high IQ to work at coles.

    • City one was on the shelf, local close near my house was behind counter

  • +2

Cant seem to purchase these with the Perfect Eftpos card obtained from a pevious promo (think it was Woolies)
Anyone had luck in using the black variable EFTPOS Cards to purchase these?

    • -2

Buy Coles & Myer giftcards @ Liquorland, Kmart first.

I haven't tried it. Maybe you can do it @ Coles too.

    • +1

tried this today too and got declined-invalid transaction

    • Anyone tried buying with activ visa card from previous promo?

    • I tried and got the same error message. They really tightened the rules now, what a bummer!

  • whats the best way to use these cards for some gift cards?

  • is there a rule that the discount is for 1 transaction per day only? can we not split the 5 cards into 2 or more transactions per day?

    • 5 cards per day, can be split

    • Never mind, I was using the wrong webpage!

      • what website are you using? It seems to be not responding for me

        • colesmastercardbalance.com.au which then takes you to mybalancenow or something like that. On there it just asks for the card number expiry date and cvc.

  • Raine Square out of $250 cards, only $50 and $100 are available

  • +1

Colonnades SA has lots of $250 cards. Go gett'em tigers.

Today when I was scanning my 5x $250 purchase the self serve terminal stopped on the fifth card, like it always does. Needed to get supervisor approval. One came along and entered their credentials, but the machine went into a loop asking for permission. Another supervisor appeared, but the terminal locked up. Purchase needed to be done at the service desk. Haven't had that happen before.

  • cannot use on wise.com no point buying more :(

Anyone know how long a temp card takes to work? I registered 8hrs ago and bought something and it worked, can log in etc.BUT it wont take 10% off the giftcards?

    • +1

I waited overnight and it took 10% off

      • Cheers..well ..it's good Friday tomorrow..so it will get 40hrs to get "giftcard" active ..not just normal active.

  • Guys,

I paid all the bills in advance and my local Coles still has plenty of them.

Thinking of buying more. What’s the best way to keep them without the risk of getting them hacked or store or convert them into something else?
    Thanks

    • -2

Can't be hacked, just store somewhere safe. Going to have $5,000 worth of gift cards by tomorrow, inflation is real :)

      • -1

        Can't be hacked

I think you missed out multiple related topics. These cards are best to be used within 4 weeks. Otherwise, you may have headaches.

        • -1

I can take Panadol for headaches and my cards will be used up in under 3 months

    • Buying Digital cards from card.gift when its zero fees.

      • -2

Only if the card is not hacked by then.

  • Went to Southlands Coles yesterday. No $250's on shelves. Service desk staff advised there were issues with these cards causing havoc to their computer systems… But the $100 cards were ok. Not sure if I believed the staff member. Anyway, loads of $100's on the shelf if you want those. Good luck.

    • Went to southlands this morning and there were more than 70 $250 on the shelf, got 5 more and will go in again tomorrow too

  • I just used this to put $250 on Medibank Private and $250 on an advanced payment for Electricity. Not often do you get credit for services like this so thinking its worthwhile to top up and put some more on.

    • Is it straightforward to do this? Do they acknowledge payment with a receipt or “you are covered up until x date” notification? I want to pay ahead before my premium increase in June. Cheers.

      • yeah it was - if you log into medibank private on the website, click on payments, then can click on pay premium (then enter card details). I only added $250, however, will be buying more cards this week when I can get back to Coles (600km drive to the shops!). In my case it says "Your payments are up to date. Your policy is paid up to 18 Jun 2023"

        • That’s great to see that Medibank give you a “paid up to” date. Thank you for your reply and instructions on method.
Good luck with the round trip back to Coles but don’t forget the offer expires on Tuesday.
          Cheers.

  • Has anyone used these for an international purhcase?

If so, do you pay the ~3% Mastercard currency conversion rate?
