so cheap! Is this Made In China or USA?

    • +7

you'll get better quality out of china factories

    • +2

China made model 3 are much better made than the usa made one lol

      • +2

I’ve never heard of America having higher standards or production than any other country. Americans only care about this because it keeps jobs in their country instead of sending money overseas

        • I would argue US made software is still better than many Chinese made ones, or Japanese for that matter…
Hardware I would rely on Chinese made

          • @ozbking: Apple says it cannot move production from China because of the best supply chain & the best App developers. China S/W is superior

    • -1

      Better than Indian made

  • What's the expected lifespan and annualized cost of this watch?

    • I don’t think any technology companies advertise or give an expectation of lifespan. It goes against their want for people to buy the new one every year

    • +1

The most recent watch to fall off the OS bandwagon in 2022 was the Series 3 released back in 2017, so at least 5 years. Just like phones though, I expect later models to get longer support as tech advances, so perhaps 7 years of support for the Ultra.

      No guarantees of course.

S3 still works fine my wife has one, still does what she wants it for.

        • Yep agreed, my wife just moved to a S7 from her S3 and apart from the always on screen there's not much difference.

    • Look at smartwatch upgrades about the same frequency as your phone, and you will be fine.

And you don’t need the most expensive one. In fact you don’t need one at all, which makes all this bitching about longevity on this thread rather silly. You get one because you want one.

jesus and I thought my galaxy watch 5 pro was expensive 😳

  • Apple Ultra Pro Plus expensive.

  • Wtf does this watch do that my galaxy watch 4 can't?

    • +1

A lot better built? Titanium case for starters.

    • +3

      It doesn’t need a Samsung phone 😀

    • +1

empties your pocket much faster ;)
It's all outdated with the next gen anyway

      • isn't everything, come out from under your rock

    • It's not competing with your basic smartwatch.

  • +2

This is most certainly a deal as it's cheaper than retail, but I find more value in the official Apple Refurbished store:

    https://www.apple.com/au/shop/refurbished/watch

$529 for a 41mm Series 8 and $579 for a 45mm Series 8. I bought a Series 7 a few months ago and it was indistinguishable from new. They use a new case, new battery and new band, only the maimboard is reused.

  • Can you use prepaid esim for the Apple Watch cellular? Has anyone from the group have done it? Thanks

    • It will have a different phone number to your iPhone’s. as far as I know it’s still only Optus, Telstra and Vodaphone who number share esims which gives you the same phone number on both devices

    • +2

No. No prepaid. Only the three major carriers, no resellers.

Lots of negative about this watch. Clearly by those who do not own it.
I find it useful and absolutely worth the price. It works well for me at work, and is a great rugged watch.

Obviously I did not pay RRP and got it for 15% off with GC.

  • Would Apple price match this?

    • Yes, you can go in-store and ask them to price-match amazon.

For whatever reason, you cannot use your apple account balance in-store if you price match. You must call apple sales on 133 622 and tell them you want to price match and pay using your account balance. I picked my ultra from Chadstone yesterday using this method and paid 1199 using my apple account balance from the discounted apple gift card deals.

      • As in you need to buy it over the phone to use account balance and price match?
What about if you have gift cards still and want to price match amazon?
I thought they only price match bricks and mortar?

As in you need to buy it over the phone to use account balance and price match?
          Yes
What about if you have gift cards still and want to price match amazon?
You can apply the gift cards to your Apple account and price match amazon, though you will need to do it over the phone.
I thought they only price match bricks and mortar?
They also price match amazon as long as it is fulfilled by amazon.

          • +1

@Nyen: Thanks. Price beat against amazon au over the phone and paid with gift card special. Saved $283 and Brought down cost to $1015. Happy with that!

Just picked one up through salary sacrifice (almost 50% off) and have been loving it. Upgraded from a series 3 so it was a big jump. Battery life + action button are the big features i've noticed making it worth it.

  • Tried one on and it's very chunky - might be ok for sports, etc. but I can't see myself wearing it all day - is anyone using 2 x Apple Watches with their phones? Thinking of getting a S7/S8 for day to day and this for active stuff…

    • +1

I have three connected Apple Watches currently. S5 Nike, S7 Stainless and Ultra. As soon as you swap on your wrist and unlock it changes over seamlessly. I use Ultra for two days, and put on the S5 to track sleep and charge the Ultra. I use the S7 with fancier non waterproof bands, as I love the gold.

    Save $100. Lose $1199.
Quite a deal. No thank you.

  • This is the perfect 'dumb' phone. Lasts all day with cellular. Good for sms text, apple reminders, health, calls…without Facebook and other addictive apps.

  • Bagin

  • Heres your competition. Garmin Descent MkII dive watch $2.2k https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/p/633356

  • My only quibble is I tend to stay away from Mk1 of any Apple Product. They tend to do a better job on the second go at something.

  • purchase via phone sale and checkout with account balance (credit from last 15% off GC deal) and will go to a tax return tomorrow

    $1199*0.85-109=910.5 not bad.

    • What's the $109 saving you got out of interest to reduce it down to $910?

      • claiming the GST?

  • Oh no temporarily out of stock! Would OW still pricematch this?
