Similar to this expired deal. Unsure if it's targeted to VIC this time or Australia wide.

Picture only for the link. I couldn't find any specific information on the SCA website.

Edit: website details found here. Credit to wfdTamar

Edit 2: thanks to gamma717 it would appear that SCA marketing stuffed the dates on this campaign. I'll update the post if the dates change.

    "REWARED with $5 credit!"
    ware it again?
    .

  • Can i get multiple, like if i fill in 10x 1litre bottles will i get $50 or what if i hand them in seperately?
Or is it $5 per account?

    • +4

Limit of 1x Oil Recycling $5 credit will be applied each month. Customers are more than welcome to return multiple containers, within household quantities (limit of 4 bottles per customer per month), however only 1x $5 credit will only be applied

      • Thanks saw the link and read it, was about to reply to myself

  • +1

    Nice initiative from SCA.

I wonder if they really thing EV uptake is that big that no-one would be doing oil changes soon.

    • Ev also have oil though change interval is longer

      • Coolant change and apply grease

        • it's rare, but they'll still need transmission fluid changes too

          • +5

@sp0rk: 🤫 You're not supposed to drop facts like that to EV folks out here.

  • Topic flair says 30.days. is this a reference to the $5 credit or the promotion?

    • It's a reference to when the deal/promotion starts. Not sure if there's an end date mentioned anywhere

      • +1

        Offer ends 31 May 2023.

    • All deets on their webpage, nice one.

  • Don't you just put that in the recycling bin?

    • +3

      username checks out.

    • Stormwater drain is more convenient

  • +2

Good initiative, unfortunately my local SCA doesn't accept old oil.

I wait until I have about 3-4 bottles and then take it to the local council tip (who hopefully recycles it).

    • +7

Local council might take it to another SCA to get the $5!

      • If it reduces my rates, I'm all for it.

        • Reduced rates? Is there such a thing?

    • Have you checked recently? My local SCA seems to accept oil every second or third month only….

      • I just checked the website.

    • Is it free to drop used oil at council tip?

      • -1

If you are a resident of that council, usually yes, but hard to be definitive given the amount of councils out there

      • +1

Yes, don’t need to be a resident of the council.

I also recycle my polystyrene there too

  • Boo, just dropped off bottles yesterday.

  • +1

Credit valid for 28 days from date of application

    .. should be noted

  • +1

The promotion commences on Monday the 20th April, 2023 at 00:01 and concludes on Wednesday 31st May, 2023.

I think the promotion was meant to start yesterday Monday the 20th of March as there is no Monday the 20th of April.

    • That makes sense. Cheers

On the phone to SCA now. Will update shortly.

      Edit:

Subject to an immediate internal review with the marketing team. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

      Watch this space I guess.

    • They have fixed the promotion dates now in the T's & C's

  • What if I have 10L but in a 20L drum?

    • +1

I'm in a similar situation. I've finally used up all the oil from this deal and filled the empty container with my stored old oil for recycling. Now I have to divide it up into smaller containers. I've yet to decide whether it's worth the $5.

      • You did 5 oil changes in 1 year?

        • +2

4 on my car. 1 on my daughters. I drive 50k kms per year.

          • @MS Paint: Do you drive an uber?

            • @shoppe: Live regional. 95% of my driving is at 100km/h.

              • @MS Paint: And how fast do you drive when you're regional?

          • @MS Paint: Damn, that's a lot of driving. You must spend heaps on fuel!

  • +2

I dropped 4 bottles off today, they took my membership details and mentioned the credit would be in mext month.

    • +1

thanks for sharing. That means the deal has started, probably from 20th Mar? @Muzeeb

      • Combined with this it makes sense.

    • Same here, but then the T&C for this deal state "12. Credit will be valid for 28 days from date of application" which makes me wonder if the money will come through before 28days are up. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/on/demandware.static/-/Lib…

      • It uses the same terminology for the credit being applied to your account. So I believe it means you get 28 days from when it hits youur account

  • The oil recycle bin at my local SCA seems to rapidly fill up even without $5 vouchers. Never managed to successfully use it as it is always full. I guess you need to figure out which day it gets emptied and come in immediately, easier just to go to the council transfer station for me though.

    • You aren't meant to put it in their bin. (That was the old process). Now they want you to put it on the floor near the checkouts.

  • What’s the process for this? Do the staff give you a $5 voucher upon receip of old oil, or do they take your club membership details for the credit to be applied?

    • +1

I really hope you're being sarcastic.
      Really… I do.
      🤯🥺

    • Dumb it at your council recycling centre mate, if the reason you are unable to drop @SCA is same as mine. Councils generally take this Stuff for FREE.

  • +3

Personally I don't care about the $5 credit. Just happy to have somewhere legit and convenient to dump my old oil.

    • Except the fact they complain on us putting oil in 2L Soda bottles, or milk bottles etc. (non engine oil label bottles)

  • Headed to SCA in Castle Hill today, the staff told me this recycle&reward starts from next month.

    • My bad, the perk is on, the credit will be rewarded next month.

  • I went to my local and they had no clue about it. Either way, dropped some oil off, I guess YMMV

  • -1

    Dang,

I had been recycling oil for free in past, Now I feel neglected for not waiting for this deal, and getting paid for oil recycling.

BTW SCA complains a lot on OIL container used (I like to keep oil manufacter's original oil packaging for left over oil, and give the Old USED oil in a different bottle, like 2L plastic coke/soda bottle, or 5L demineralized water canny bottle, or 2L milk container bottles.)

The website also doesn't say oil needs to be in a Castrol/GW/Valvoline/ etc. oil manufacturer's oil bottle. So please SCA do not complain on us giving USED oil in 2L Coke bottles. (this is reason why I would go to dumb oil at council recycling Centre as they dont complain on type of bottle used)

Also website doesn't say how much is $5 credit for, (aka someone recycling 1x 1L oil in a oil container, vs 1x 5L in a oil container) So If I put 5L oil in 5 x 1L oil containers I get $25 ? or still only $5 ?

And when is the deal actually starting ?? now or in April ??

    • +2

BTW SCA complains a lot on OIL container used (I like to keep oil manufacter's original oil packaging for left over oil, and give the Old USED oil in a different bottle, like 2L plastic coke/soda bottle, or 5L demineralized water canny bottle, or 2L milk container bottles.)

It explains it on their website:
      https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/services/in-store-services…
"Soft plastic bottles like drink bottles and milk bottles are not suitable for carrying and transporting waste oils."

      So If I put 5L oil in 5 x 1L oil containers I get $25 ?

Also on their T&Cs in the link above.
"Club members will not be eligible for multiple credits for Oil Recycling per month. Limit of 1x Oil
Recycling $5 credit will be applied each month."

    • What do you do with the old oil bottles? starting a collection?

  • Good deal IF you can get it. Stores in the ACT are apparently too lazy if the link above is accurate. Nearest oil recycling to me is ~30km round trip so only practical/logical when other things need to be "relocated".

  • has anyone got their credit yet?

    • Nope not me

  • My local at Alexandria can't take used oil. So called environmentally conscious City of Sydney won't allow it.

When I took my oil back to the Rockdale branch the guy was very reluctant to accept it even though I'd bought the oil there.

    • Depends on your luck. The dude i talked to was chill and even had a box ready for the oil on the side but had no idea of the $5 promo

  • Hmm…so confused. I took some oil last month and got the credit this month, can I now take more oil and get another credit for next month. Yes because promo is still on but by the time I'm due to get credit, it's expired, so no. Conclusion, yes no. 🤷

  • PSA, Chullora SCA is not accepting any more oil since 'their bin is full'

  • I got $5 credit on 2/6/23 for recycling oil but not yet for the battery. Has anyone received both credits yet?
