Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 Engine Oil $62.95 C&C/ in-Store Only @ Auto One

70

Seems like a good deal on Valvoline Restore and Protect Engine Oil. Usually near the $100 mark so quite a substantial saving.

This oil is highly regarded as being able to clean engine deposits as seen by many reviews online (including "The Motor Oil Geek" Lake Speed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IDvx1LtqVM).

Also available in 10W-40 here: https://www.autoone.com.au/products/valvoline-restore-and-pr…

Not an all-time low ($49, earlier this year), and for most people, the $20 Gulf Western oil (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/899322) is probably a better buy unless you need API SP or a lighter weight..

should i buy for 6 months ahead or will it go off then?

    • If it's sealed, it can last a very long time in storage

I've been tracking this for a while as I have a problem car that might need this (Stuck piston rings on a 2azfe). This oil is pretty new but you can almost guarantee it'll go on sale again at some point.

Saying that, this oil can last for years if sealed, so if you might need it in the next 6-12 months, just buy it..

It has been as low as $49 in recent months so it might be worth waiting if you need this type of oil specifically.

If you just need "any oil" then this one is a great deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/899322

          • @butter: I always use Castrol EDGE for my car, but after watching your YT link, I'm sold, will try this one on my 20 years old car.

          • @butter: How severe is the oil burn?

            • +2

              @darshu: 1L per 500km

              • @butter: Oh. That's a lot. Did you change oil every 15K or 10K? According to YouTube (Car Care Nut), the main problem with this issue is due to 15,000-km oil changes.

          • @butter: I have this problem with my Toyota 2azfe.
Drinks engine oil a lot these days. It’s a design fault with the piston rings.

You need to check your engine oil dipstick at least every 2-3 weeks.
Mine will gulp down anywhere between 0.8-0.9L/1000km!

It’s an old runabout & not worth an engine rebuild to fix the excessive oil consumption issue.

I would like hear other owners with issues related to 2azfe engine.

Running this on all of my vehicles at the moment. None have any problems or sludge (one had a lot of Varnish when I bought it) but intend to do 3-4x changes and then revert back to my usual oil.

Seems pretty good so far - The oil has been draining dirtier than usual.

  • Would 10W-40 be a better option Brisbane climate?

    • Refer to your manual, what does it call for?

  • Website doesn't confirm if can be used in diesel engines.

Anyone used this on a diesel?

    • Nah this is a petrol only oil, some light diesels might be able to use it but it's not really designed for it.

I'd stick to the oil recommended by your manual. If those recommendations include API-SN (or better) or ILSAC GF6, then this will be fine.

  • Not for VW cars 😞. I have a high mileage EA888 any recommendations?

    • There's a 10W-40 option in the description if that is better suited

    • a high mileage EA888 any recommendations?

How often are u changing oil?

For the last 100k km I pretty much ran my EA888 on whatever 5w-30 or 5w-40 full synth that was on sale and it was still great when I sold it at 205k km. My oil change interval was 7500-10k km. It was a gen1 and I think they stuffed up the oil rings in the gen2. I also ran a Forge catch can.

I have a gen3 EA888 now and it's also on shorter changes and I'm running the same oil as what my diesel Pajero Sport uses. I pretty much ignore the VW spec.
